I got a better idea

Tell your buddy you're not growing anymore and do it by yourself. I understand its damn near impossible not to tell anyone but, lets be honest, the only people u need to tell is everyone here on RIU.

Use the 600w, pay your bill on time, and get an odor control and you'll be set.

I think this is the best idea. Really, I wouldn't tell anyone else about my grow op, if possible, just because as soon as you let something slide you are always wondering if someone will tell someone else and it leads to you getting ripped off.

Also, don't even sweat about the 600w lamp. My computer power supply is 1200w in and of itself. ;-)

jsut an fyi some coffee makers draw a whole lot more than 600 watts since the burner is a purly resistive load .. here are the specs from my bunn coffee maker

Specifications:
  • Overall Dimensions: 23.6” H x 9” W x 18.5” D
  • Volts: 120
  • Amps: 15.4
  • Tank Heater Watts: 1800
  • Total Watts: 1850
however it doesnt run 18/6 lol but a 600 watt grow light will call no more attention to you than running an espresso maker will

Yeah, microwaves, air conditioners, hair dryers, computers, big TVs -- they all use more than 600 watts. 600 watts is nothing. Also, don't be so paranoid of the electric company. If they find someone growing, they're surely required by law to report it. But is it in their best interests to do so? Not if you're paying your bills. A customer in jail is no longer a paying customer. A paying customer that uses a lot of what they're selling? That's exactly what they want, from a profit perspective.

Smell's the main issue. I'd buy *two* carbon filters, so when the one in use starts failing and the smell becomes apparent, you don't have to wait any time at all to swap it out for a new one. I'm in a house and I'd do that myself, but I have three carbon filters, one for each cabinet, so there's lots of anti-smell redundancy built into my system already.

i just began running a 4oo watt and the 2 fans for my one bedroom apt. I spent all month conserving energy elsewhere and when my bill came i shit myself and saw i actually saved 25 doolars over the month before i began running my lights! lol, i green now!:hump: go for the 600, for me having all that extra power i can use in my head i am like on a power spending spree, i cant wait to buy something else, anything, maybe another fan lol:joint:
