well i see your questioning how to upgrade, personally i would get the hps, it uses less elec so you can have fans moms ets on the same breaker. also there are about 40 pages of reviews on amazon, i read them all. ipower sometimes comes with a bad ballast that will get reshipped immediately, APOLLOW is better imo and nothing broken... also i think lights should be running constantly, you can make any size dark room under 20 bucks, swapping flowering chambers every 12. 300 sqft of black plastic sheeting is 6 dollars. wallmart also has real nice "grow closets" with a zipper and pvc frame

dimmable ballasts change the lights spectrum, id get a magnetic ballast. more reliable and no worries of interference from the digital ones or the unknown change of your light spectrum

my opinion. digital dim vs magnetic. lets see digital waste of money, magnetic same shit 1/4 price,

well my 600 watt digital cooltube was 186 dollars including shipping and everything sooo i dont see how a magnetic is so much cheaper. also your spectrum changes, goes more to the red the more you dim it. when on full power its regular soooo better than a non dimmable i would much rather have options. and as to rf, i play music for my ladies right next to my ballast,no interference or anything lol yall sound like some haters that are mad they got a magnetic ballast.... also i can run mh, and its got a 5 year warranty so.. what!:)

Dimmable is bullshit. The best ballasts are "select-a-watt" running at 1000w/600w/400w.
Although Digital is pretty good stuff. They use about 10% less power, which at the end of the grow could be quite a few $$$ saved. At the end of the ballasts life an Digital Ballast will completely pay for itself in power savings versus a magnetic ballast. Additionally, the reduced heat from them means less power is spent handling the BTU's from the Mag Ballast, which is an additional savings.
The price on that system is basically too good to be true. I have seen some iPower stuff around and haven't heard anything bad about them but before you purchase it would behoove you to figure out what the return policy is on them. If you burn out 6 months in is it going to take 5 or 6 days to get the replacement?

Sometimes it pays to spend a little more and shop locally for a reliable brand than to find the most bargain discounted ballast possible...

as i dont have a "select a watt" ballast i cant say. but in my head they would do the same thing...a cfl for example the hotter it gets the more blue the spectrum, as it gets cooler it gets more red and significantly dimmer until it wont turn on anymore, around 30 degrees. the hps responds the same way by lightening the spectrum and becoming more intense when hotter and full wattage. and less intense when dimmed than a comparable watt hps... 3 way cfls etc designed for this also do it... so do these other "dimmable ballasts" do something different or change 75percent to saying 400watts on the ballast? not trying to argue its a serious question

The thing about the Select-a-watt style ones (Galaxy, SolisTek, a handful of others) is that rather than running only the 1000w bulb you can use a 600w bulb or a 400w bulb and achieve the proper spectrum for that bulb. Sure, you can run the 1000w bulb at "60%" from the ballast and have a reduced spectrum (and likely a reduced bulb life and lumen maintenance) but the idea with those is to use the proper bulb for the associated setting. While the upfront cost on bulbs is a little higher it offers much better efficiency and lifespan, getting a better "bang for you buck."

I will sell someone a Quantum Ballast (or fuck, a LumaTek) if that's what the customer wants. But I am always sure to mention just what they are getting and why the other guys are doing it differently.
