600w MH/HPS LST grow journal: the cheese PICS

Hey everyone, this is my second grow but my first grow using an indoor tent and HID lighting system. I am growing five Cheese clones in five gallon buckets filled with a perlite/fox farm ocean forest soil mix and have a 600w MH bulb for veg and a 600w HPS for flowering. I am using the fox farm liquid nutrients every other watering (I water every 3-4 days) and will begin using the soluable nutrients when the time comes. I also started LSTing the plants when they were fairly young in order to maximize their yield. I believe they are responding well to this however this is my first time trying this method and any input from someone experienced with LST would be greatly appreciated.

They just entered their third week of veg and I have included some pics taken over the past few weeks of one of the clones as it was trained. I will put up the pics from the others in the next few days and will be updating this thread on a daily/weekly basis.

Let me know what you think!

Ive decided to highlight the two plants who are doing the best of the five until I start flowering to save time uploading and documenting their progress. I posted pics of the first one earlier today and this is the second one I will be posting pics of. Its getting pretty bushy and still has another three weeks of veg!

A few pics taken tonight trying to show the canopy and LST, they definitely perked up from yesterday. Im going to wait another day or so and start retying them down.

Does anybody have an opinion of trimming fan leaves off the plant during veg? A few of my girls are getting a little too bushy and have started making it difficult to expose developing nodes to direct light. + rep for any help!

Heres a few pics I just took of the two plants, theyre really starting to bush out! Im watering tonight and letting them veg a few more days before starting to LST again so they can stretch a little more.

Well I didnt end up waiting, I LSTed them just before the lights went on and took a few pictures before, during and after. Its crazy how fast they can bounce back after being tied down. If anybody else is doing LST feel free to post some pics!

Heres some pics of the girls this morning! I also picked up a purple dragon clone to make into a bonzai bush (figured I can legally grow 6 plants so I might as well use the time to get some nice purple buds for a special occasion or rainy day!)

Im planning on LSTing the Purple Dragon for about a week and switching it into flower with the Cheese. Im not expecting her to give me a huge yield but hopefully ill get some really good purple to enjoy!

I also picked up a 600w 3k sunpulse MH bulb for flowering which im excited to try out. One more week and the flowering begins!

the plant in front is a clone from a branch i pulled off by mistake in early veg, always keep some rooting hormone handy when really reefin on em, its amazing how fast it caught up to the two lsted plants when left alone

Thanks a lot man! Ya this is my first tent grow and as far as I can tell it definitely makes a big difference. The bulb I picked up is a 600w sunpulse thats a MH but is supposedly a better fit to the spectrum and intensity the plant needs than your typical eyehortilux HPS (at least thats what the website says, I never fully trust them) Its rated at 3000k and a friend recommended it so we'll see how it works out.

You have some great looking plants man! Its crazy to see how fast the clone caught up when left to grow naturally! I can only imagine how tall the others would be if they grew up and not out. The LST definitely did what its supposed to tho, you have a seriously nice canopy going! How long have you been vegging/LSTing?

I did some LST on the plants earlier today and watered with EC 1, grow big and open seasame when the lights turned on. I cant believe how fast they bounce back from being tied down!

Thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to avoid trimming. I'm watering tonight and re-tying the plants back down 2maro when the lights are off. I'll have pics up soon
hey man journal looks to coming along nice as well as the grow. and as for trimming if you have any small branches under neath that are not gonna make it to the top you could snip those out cuz they wont amount to much but leave the leafs alone if they are not dead or infested. im subbed for your grow

Glad to have you subbed! I decided not to trim any of the leaves but I have been tying down the ones covering developing nodes. Is this ok or will the nodes continue to develope despite being covered? My thought process says they need light to grow but it wouldnt be the first time I was wrong.

Looks good, lst looks roughly how i'd do it too. Its not really that hard, people just don't think about it. All you're doing is getting as many growth tips as the same height as possible.

And yes, do not ever cut off fan leaves. You can move them and fold them under branches (as long as you dont rip them), but cutting them off is completely counter productive.
