600w HPS overkill?

I plan to grow one, maybe two massive plants in a cabinet. I think Id be set with a 400w but my friend wants 600w. Is the 600w overkill for just one or two plants? How much would it yield around with a good strain? Thanks

The more light the better in most situations, the buds will be more dense increasing the overall yield. However in the space required for just two plants (even of a fairly gd size) heat may become a serious issue without adequate ventilation. IMO a 400 would be ideal and you could even get away with a 250. Do you plan to have an exhaust system? Heat is a real issue as you up the lighting and if you're not considering some fairly heavy duty extraction and intake a 600w would probably fry your plants.

400W is fine but a 600W is more efficient and has almost twice the light at only half the power increase. But it also adds a lot more heat too so you have to look at that as well.

yeah..were going to run a 6" vortex inline blowing out of a duct into a window..also going with an air cooled HPS so I dont think heat will be a problem. Were trying to yeild a pound plus..is that ideal with a 600w HPS in a bubble bucket?

If you can get the heat out 6oo would be cool, however ive said on this site before i have friends who run 1000 watt hid lights and i get much better results with using 400 watt, mylar is a good thing to bounce back the light, i also have a friend who just uses a 250 watt and always gets good weed from 3 plants in a small 5ft by 2 ft cuboard, big powerfull lights does not always give you more weed, put in the time and the love you might just be surprised what you get, happy times friend enjoy the months ahead.

Go with the 600, may more efficient, way bigger buds.

Iv seen single plants grown under a 1000w lights that cropped 2lbs

yeh dude it is going to be air cooled, i just dont know whats good HPS system for cheap, the one my friends looking at is $400 for the whole light setup w ballast, anything cheaper and good?

I got my 400w lumatek with cooltube, bulb, hangers, and cords for $300 from mdhydro. I think the 600w is only 20 bucks more or something like that.

There are some great setups on ebay, I just picked one up for about $300 shipped (1000w light system with everything needed, ballast + timer too)

i need it to be air cooled..and both bulbs would be nice, hps and metal halide or w.e... do you think a pound is possible with this setup in a DWC bubbler? Also what should I try to grow strain wise. I can get some hawaiin clones, ak, some other kind mixed w. skunk. Any help is appreciated bros!

You could pick up a 600w HPS brand new with bulb, ballast and an air cooled hood for well under 400

I dont know of many 600w MH systems, I know that there are 600w MH conversion bulbs for HPS ballasts.

If your planning on using the one light for the whole grow you Definitely need to go with HPS because you can use the hps for flowering with great results, and you can grow ridiculous veg rates under HPS as well.

Don't buy the $280 kit, just buy the HPS kit and the MH conversion bulb separately and save $25. (Why do they charge an extra $25 for the "kit"? Stupid)

Your gonna go that big of a light in that small of a space for only 2 plants? You could get so much more out of that light!! Is space an issue?

I agree 100% with Kludge and his choice of online stores...they are the BEST!!

Oh, damn, I forgot all about the $20 150W hps. A few of those actually might be better for a smaller grow, that way you could focus the light closer to where it needs to be; you could put the lights on the sides and the top of the box so more light is closer to the plants.

I have not used this light and can not vouch for it.

we dont have that small of a space, we plant to get just one or two massive plants with a crazy yeild. we have around 2feet width x 4 feet deep by up to 7 feet tall.

were going to buy a storage cabinet, maybe with a lock from home depot or lowes and setup everything from there. have an exhaust running out my window, light cooled hps w. ballast, 6" inline duct, DWC bubbler, nutes, all that chit. looking to spend around $1g for this setup. no more
