1) Hydroton is nice, but it is not enough to start seeds or clone in.
2) Pool noodles are AWESOME as starters, but not by themselves.
3) Perlite and Vermiculite are AWESOME when it comes to fogponics. Seeds sprout in two days, root growth thrives, but it is messy.
4) I don't think that many nutes are transferred in the fog, so having a drain, and being able to soak the growing site with nuted water helps. I do this every other day or so, and seems to be doing alright. If I don't do this, the plants grow real yellowish, or a thin light green.
5) The excess fog is FANTASTIC for other plants in the grow tent. My organic plants started thriving, and so did my bonzai... all from the added humidity.
6) 2 ultrasonic foggers use about 3 gallons of water in a 24 hour period. any less than 2 foggers and the roots dont get enough moisture.
7) DO NOT TURN OFF THE FOGGERS DURING DARK PERIOD. Even for an hour, your exposed roots WILL dry out.

Downside of that is if you do have a hardware failure you have a very small window to catch/correct it.

Exactly correct. Keep a couple replacement discs for the foggers handy, and possibly an extra fogger or two, and power supply. Fog seems to be ok... and I think I will use it after this for other types of gardening... but honestly... the space it takes up is an issue too. I know I can't do 6 plants in that rainforest, start to finish... there just won't be enough room for the roots. I am already worried as it is with three of them in there.

My plan so far is to get those two clones to a point that they have a good root system, then transplanting them to 3 gallon pots. The transplant from my buddy is just a test bunny to see how things grow in there... after it grows and sexes, I'll either transplant it or pull it. The only three that will be start to finish in there will be the Hollands Hope, Durban Poison, and Super Lemon Haze. Next grow, a mixture of soil, perlite, and vermiculite and possibly some cloth pots... fuck the dumb shit. I'll use the RainForest for houseplants or something... unless they surprise the fuck outta me.

got bored today, and on the way home from work bought 2x 35 bulbs (red) LED Christmas Lights... 5 bucks... and put them up around my flowering girls. Turned off the 600W for a little while... what do you think?

Just playin with them. Need more bread and garbage bag ties to tie them to individual budsites like I did with Miss Anonymous.

--------------------------------------------------------

On a real note... I stressed the whole day. I just am not seeing the AWESOME growth from the FogPonic Unit I wanted to see. Actually, it seems that growth is kind of stunted with those... I'll give it a few more days... and once things have decent root growth on them, if they don't start filling out, I am going to transplant them straight to 3 gallon pots or bags, and grow them out. I've got my net set up... I have room... and I don't want stunted plants. I spent too much on the seeds.

So that is where my head is at today. What do you think? Given what you have seen so far. I will update pics of the plants in the fogger unit tomorrow... but they aren't as impressive as I have seen from my past plants. Anyways, enjoy my holiday tinkering pics... and we'll see about the rest tomorrow night.

Being there is some sense of urgency to get usable herb from this test, I would go for the transplant into pots and growing them out normally. Just my .02

I'll take some pics with lights on in the morning... I am still thinking about it... and I know it will be a week or two before I fully make up my mind. no matter what, i like the lushness in my plants that the extra humidity adds from having the foggers... so I think I will still fog the intake of the tent... like 3 hours off and then 1 on... 6 times a day... could just use a humidifier... but it really is a different kind of humidity. That mist can be cold and thick by the time it gets to the unit... kind of weird...

All I know, is my last grow had it's issues at the end, and didn't yield nearly what I wanted it to. The wife has started questioning all the money i put into it... and the electric costs. I just gotta get it right this time.

try and get a little perpetual going on
that should do it

Had to make a new account in order to post update. I decided... switch to soil for the entire grow, till I can do some more research.

PICS!

So let's give it a few days, and see how they do... everything had a bit of roots... I mixed Hydroton, Perlite, Vermiculite, and Garden Soil...

I am still going to use the fog... but I am instead fogging the whole unit... ( you can see one of the pics above where I have it just blowing into the unit. One hour on, Three off... 6 cycles in every 24 hours period. I like the way the plants are more lush, and the color is deeper with the higher humidity.

Quick Update -

Clone UnderDog didn't make it over night. Not a surprise... it had no roots, and wasn't looking well anyways when I transplanted it. So what now? I gotta 3 gallon pot, with nothing growing in it... BUBBA KUSH 33! I have the seed soaking in water and a few drops of Super Thrive now... and I'll get it planted tonight or tomorrow. I have an Endoscopy today, and not looking forward to that. Everything else is doing well... I'ma give it a few days before I do another pic update. Gonna see if I can figure out the settings on that camera first, and try to get some GROWTH before I pop some pictures... feel like I am taking pictures of the exact same thing, EVERYDAY.

Ok, so quitting smoking cigerettes has gotten me all sorts of jittery, and anxious. I am trying not to smoke all my bud to compensate... so I started tinkering. Mind you it is after hours for the girls, so I can only do so much...

Well I got to thinking about the fact that I want to keep fog in the unit, because I believe it is beneficial to a natural atmosphere, but I only had the one hose, coming in... and no way to really disperse it. Then I got to cleaning up my room, organizing my many pipes and shit... and I saw another Pool Noodle. :hump: This is it!

So... being that I love to recycle, and I had all that reflective tape on the RainForest unit that was gonna have to come off anyways for a thorough cleaning; I started pulling it off, and wrapping it in bands around the pool noodle. I then cut 6 holes into the pool noodle, two on each side in three locations. I used the stuff I cut out to plug the one end, and then used some scrap metal tape to attach the noodle to the end of the fogger hose. It is the perfect length to kind of float over from one side of the unit to the other... and the holes i put in are well spaced to allow fog to disperse through the whole unit.

Of course, I am stoned, and it is late... and I should just leave them alone... so I will hook it up and take some pics in the AM... but ya... I was bored. Did I say that? Bored... and stoned... definately stoned.

... and replaced with FOUR new transplants from my buddy. Shit happens, and now I will finish them out. All four came from a flood and drain hydro unit in 6" pots with only hydroton in them... the two bigger ones I emptied out the hydroton that was loose, and repacked with my soil, vermiculite, perlite, and hydroton mixture, and then put them each in 3 gallon pots. The two smaller ones I took out of the larger 6" pots, (they were still in 2" pots inside the 6" ) and planted with just soil and a little hydroton in party cups, and put them where I could. They will stay there until I find room for them... or I HAVE to transplant them to larger pots. Since I have a double floor in that tent, I am thinking about taking out the drip pans, and just placing them on the floor... I can wet/dry vac it up every day if I need, but that way I can fit more in there... guess I ended up kinda doin somethin resemblin a perpetual grow anyways eh? lol.
