Jesus don't be so melodramatic . It's a plant in a cup. We're not climbing Everest or cleaning PetFlora's nasty cum laced bathroom.
Since less than 1/4 of the entrants have typically finished in past comps, I don't think its an overly dramatic statement at all. It isnt as easy as it looks. We'll see how you fare when this is all over. Are you a betting man?

It is as easy as it looks. Period. Unless one wants to make it complicated, like you I guess. Jeeze Louise make mountains out of mole hills much?????????

Update time, Week 2.

The Kalashnikova leaves are not looking too good, the rest of them I grew did the same thing. I'm probably going to cull that one off (shitty genetics). I did germ 3 more seeds I found in the bottom of a drawer because I couldn't find my seed collection at the time, it has since turned up. So I have 4 entries, 1 fem 3 reg but I will not be picking the Kalashnikova unless all the others go male on me.

Just a warning to you all I normally keep my championship genetics rolling around loose in a drawer so bring your "A" games.

I think its easy, you may think its easy...its not as easy as it looks, or more than 20% of the entrants would finish their cup, comp after comp.

And I stuffed your 3g result, with mine in the last comp. :bigjoint:

Alright gang, sorry I'm late but I'll jump in now. Spent a couple weeks dreaming up and testing my rig, and I'm pretty happy with where it sits. Soaked seeds on Thursday, they've got roots enough to transfer today so I moved them into the hydro lids!

Seeds:
  • 2x F2 RSS/GA- Romulan/Sweet Skunk (stable f4) crossed with a Ghost/Afghan male. This is the 2nd gen from the same dad. These are in cups #1 and #2.
  • 2x F1 Rascal 5/GA- An epic Rascal pheno, but with late flower herm problems. Crossed with the same Ghost/Afghan dad, chosen because it's an extremely resilient plant. These are in cups #3 and #4.

Nutes:
Hormex (early)
Fox Farms:
  • Grow Big
  • Kangaroots
  • Sledgehammer
  • Tiger Bloom
  • Open Sesame (granular)
Nutes will be mixed in 2L bottles and added via the control cup.

Media:
DWC hydro with a "control cup" to fill/refill and to increase total reservoir size. Lids are made of foam craft board. In lieu of airstones there are lengths of aquarium tubing, plugged at the end and perforated below the water line. These were smaller and cheaper than airstones and are very quiet.

Seeds were soaked until roots were substantial enough to place in the lids.

Lights:
3x 23w 2700k CFL's
3x 23w 5000k CFL's
I'll only be running 2 of each color until they grow up a little.
13/11 light timer.

Alright, I've waited just about long enough to start germinating.... I'll reveal the tech in about a week, for now all I will say is that its a 16oz party cup container with modified traditional hydroponic qualities... As to not put all of my eggs in one basket, I'll drop 2 beans in soil and the other 3 can hang out in my hydro system. Though I am keeping it secret, I have no doubt that at least one home viewer/other contestant will try my party cup method out, but I want to wait to show it off, as so that anyone waiting for a great idea to bite doesn't see me as an easy target. Seeing as hydroponics may not be my forte, I may already be at a disadvantage, and I'm SURE @The Dawg is foaming at the mouth for a great idea, after all its coming done to crunch time and I don't think we've seen him for a little while now... Maybe he's tinkering around with something... SO without further ado, I bid the whole 50-someodd lot of you good luck! I hear Good Luck might help when your up against GREAT Skill!

Strain/Variety:
OMG (Talkeetna Old Man X Grouch) Both TOM and Grouch are family strains and have not been crossed with any other genetics in at least 15 years... This is my own F1 cross and will be the worlds first time to say "Oh My God!"

Germination Date:
8/24/2014 (going in the paper towel right now!)

Lights:
600 watt hps 12/12 cycle, no fancy stuff here

Medium:
All seeds go from paper towel, to jiffy pops, to their final resting homes inside 473ml party cups
Two beans in a mixture of Zoo Med coco fiber and Organic MG
Three beans in a super secret hydro creation using Zoo Med clay pebbles

Nutrients:
General Hydroponics Flora Nova Grow (2-3 weeks) and Flora Nova Bloom to finish.... Will also supplement with GH CalMg if needed

Grow Area:
Seeds germ in a fold over closure bag
up to 1.5" seedlings stay in a taco bell taco salad container
then to party cups nestled safely in my closet.... hopefully within 8-10 days

You're really that sure you've got the golden idea, huh? Definitely wasn't worried, I just wonder if you're willing to say whether it's Ebb & Flow style or more deep water-esque? Good luck to my micro-hydro homies, I wanna see some big results.

I'll call a breeders challenge too, who all is running their own genetics so far?

I never said I had "the Golden idea" only that there are biters out there and I've been bitten before... I'll have some big results for ya, but I'm not sharing my tech til the first, or when everyone makes their initial post, whichever comes first...
For now I'll call it
"The nutrient-film, automatic-wicking, shallow and flow, deep ebb culture system"
That should be pretty self explanatory....:P If you can't get a good idea from that, well you'll have to wait!

I'm all in with my own genetics... No boutique blends in my house!
