my 400 watt hps ballast is gone for 2 weeks being fixed. during the meantime i set up an 80 watt flourescent and hung 2 54 watt t5's on either side.

will this be enough light to keep plants in veg with out them stressing or flowering or wilting? will they last 2 weeks of this when thier used to a 400 watt mh? for those who want to know they were under mh for 28 days before my ballast broke.

and how will those t5's work on either side of my 400 watt hps for flowering? what will that do for compact growth and bud density?

you will be fine just dilute your nutes slightly and water a little less.(less heat produced by t5s and less lumens)

well they arent going to flower with out a 12/12 light trigger. If when your ballast went, you didnt catch it right away and your lights where off for greater than 12 hrs, you'll have to revert a little while and it will stunt their growth somewhat for a bit...those lights are fine for veg but not for bud. That 250 watt is it a mh or hps if it is mh ya really want an hps in there for your bud stage.

your plants look very healthy and green, however your plant seem awfully tall and unpruned, keep in mind less light will make it through to the bottom so those lower buds will be small and undeveloped while the top cola ready for harvest, i have found that the first twenty inches of canopy blocks most light and so that is what i try to leave untrimmed(except for topping, lst, or fimming). i feel that the plant then has more energy to develop into even larger top colas.

Ok, so you got a 4' floro t-12 and 2 single tube t-5s? They will do fine especially if you bought the 6500k bulbs for the regular floro fixture, around $5.00 a bulb at Menards.

They will not only last, they will grow.

they will enhance it. Continue with the blue spectrum bulbs. I still use the floros for vegging. T-5's will replace them eventually. With a mixture of bulbs, you can get decent vegging with the floro's. VV

Interesting thread. I think by you being so intent on the wellbeing of your plants - you'll be OK. You are providing your best possible for your babies, while your light is being repaired. I was most taken by your user-name - hope it's not true.
- one week - your light's probably back already.
Good luck!

To add to what VictorVIcious said when you do put them back under the HPS system, its good to give them about 1 foot extra space between the canopy and the hood just for the transition. I do that for about 24-48 hours (should be ok w/ 24 hours or so if its only 2 weeks on Fluorescent). Usually you can't terribly go wrong if you love, and care about what you are doing. You can shock them, but they will still grow, I think the biggest concern is "perfection!" which will be achieved over time ;)

I hope this helps, and if anyone else has input on the "extra space" deal I would love to hear it, I just do what I was shown from way back, and it seems to work decently.

Yes sir your T5's will be fine. You might experience some stretching from the lower nodes, but other than that they'll be fine. I veg under T5's to save on power (I LST/Super Crop too though), but anyways, it should be fine.
