50/50 perlite/vermiculite as my mix, pros and cons

I am pondering using just a perlite/vermiculite mix for my medium for 1gal grow bags, and using some type of bottled nutes just for the sake of kiss on this grow, in the future it will go to an aero setup but for now Im just going to hand water. I was just looking for some input on that mixture as my medium, and its pros and cons.

btw I am doing this in part to the fact I am going to use an aero cloner and for kiss and transplant from the cloner to the bags for bloom, the strain I will be using ( ISS ) is known for very lil veg time in a sog setup.

I would throw some sphagnum moss in there like 50/spagnum 25/perlite 25/vermiculite. Otherwise you will be watering several times a day, especially by the end. Maybe even throw some worm castings in.

Perlite is not organic. Perlite goes through too many processes and is considered "synthetic." Vermiculite and builder's sharp sand are good similar combination.

I recommend 100% coco coir, but I've seen a lot of people say how perlite holds more water than coco. If you can't go 100% coco you should go 100% chunky perlite (Foxfarm?).

you pick the goodies up yet?
I got my worm casings and I cant get coco easily but I can get the spag moss Canadian, the perm and verm so thats what Im going to run 30 moss / 30 perm 20 verm 20 worm, and Im not going all organic either this grow will go to an all aero system at some future time so my choice of nutes and such will not be based solely on organic or not. I like easy sorry:eyesmoke:

Offgridgrower.... I agree with Regrets. His recommendation is best. It will hold water well, but also drain well. The cost is low for this mix, it's a proven recipe - that has worked, for many growers. Simple, Cheap & Proven... That's about as KISS as you can get.
.
Keep it Real.. Organic ...... or as close as possible.......

i'm only half way throught the 140? page thread myself... but if you are interested in using Perlite as a sole growing medium, then you should deffinitely check out the "Hempy Buckets" thread. very informative. i will be trying to do a 'commercial hempy buckets' project in the near future.
