5 vero 18's on one driver?

  1. Hey guys I need some advice. I currently have a couple of DIY Cob panels that I'd like to upgrade. In a side by side with HPS they fell a little short but I still believe done right they'll outperform the HPS. So on one side I had a 3x6 tray with 2 HPS 1000 dumbed down to 500 each, the other side had 3x6 tray with 3 panels pushing approx. 140w each with Vero 18's at 3000k. Each panel has 4 V18 at the corners driven at 1.05 amp by a 4 channel inventronics and 1 v18 in the center driven at 700ma.. The difference seemed to be about 25% less weight off of the V18's so I figured I'd bump them up to 2 amp, unless that's overkill. I'd like to do this with one driver and have it dimmable. That would be 5 Vero 18's in series.

I've found these 5 channel inventronics but they are only 200 watts, so 5 Cob's at 1400ma = 42.3w each would be 211.5w. Will these work.

That's probably going to be too much, but Inventronics also makes 240w and 320w drivers. Meanwell should be coming out with a 250w cc driver soon.

Here is a link to the driver http://www.inventronics-co.com/upload/EUC-200PxxxDT(ST)_2013112609085725011.PDF
I was looking at the 240 but it has six channels. I think I heard they wont work correctly unless all channels are filled. If that's not correct here is the link for the 240w 6 channel http://www.inventronics-co.com/upload/EUC-240HxxxDT(ST)_2013061909372906211.PDF
These drivers seem to put out slightly less voltage than the vero's at 1400ma. driver is 29 volts and the vero's are 30.2 volts.

I didn't realize they don't have a 240w single channel. As far as whether you need the channels filled I'm not sure, but if the wattage is split per channel that extra 40 watts won't matter since only 40 watts is being allocated per channel.

Consider using HLG-120, 2 per lamp. At 65% capacity they would still be over 92% efficient. The drivers can be wired to a single dimmer.

If you used the Inventronics 320w at 60% capacity it would be 90-91% efficient. Not bad and your only single driver choice at the moment.

I'm running 5 vero 18s on an HLG-185H-C1050a and enough space to add 4 royal blues and 8 deep reds (660).
you could also run 6 vero 18s and skip the Red\blues. works well and 1050 is the nominal current for vero 18s.
I'd expect you would need at least three maybe four of these units to match a good hps 1000.

if you want to run higher current, Vero 29 or cree 3070, 3590 might be better suited.

From what I have been reading 30 watts per ft2 is ideal with these LEDS. You were pushing about 24.02 watts per ft2. I think you would see a difference if you got yourself up to minimum 30 maybe as high as 35/40 max

What about running 6 v18's at 1050mA with one HLG-185H-C1050. 6 x 32 watts = 186 watts per panel x 3 panels 558 watts total ÷ 18ft2 to cover = 31 watts/ft2

Sounds like a good solution! And definately comparable with a 1000w HPS.
With Vero18 it is Ø 40% eff., with Vero29 it is Ø 45% eff. and with CXB3590 its Ø 60% eff.
All with the same current of 1050mA per Cob.
But hey, also the Vero18 are able to produce 1gpw!
