4x4 Grape Ape and XXX 100% organic grow

Here's the soil mix going together. That's greensand and cal-phos in the 2 unmarked buckets.

ok, here's the 4x4 tray filled with my mix, and the baby clones installed. There is 9 Grape Ape 5 Triple X, and 1 of my Orangutrains (Agent Orange x TrainWreck). I have 1 600 watt MH and 1 1000 dual arc for veg, and I'll switch the dual arc when I switch to flower to a Hortilux super HPS. I know that's a lot of light for a 4x4 tray, but I want the mixed spectrums, and I'll be able to lift the lights some, to help keep it cool in there.
BTW, I'm using the 12-1, or gas lamp method of light scheduling on this grow, so it should be interesting to watch for sure.
My feeding will be my organic compost tea only as usual.

looks nice, the only problem i see is that they are all in the same tray so your roots are going to compete. you might get some runts who will get over run by biggger more setup plants. maybe put some dividers down be4 they get big. love me a nice organic grow. good luck with the ladies.

no, they are staying in that tray for the entire grow.I believe that when their roots run together, they will just keep running where they want, and unobstructed they will have a nice root ball each. I could be wrong, but I think they'll do better having the extra rtunning room than seperating each ones space. This is a VERY experimental grow that could be a big fat failure hahaha! I guess we'll see. Like I said, if nothing else it should be interesting to see what happens.

My buddy is trying to get me to grow in soil trays like yours. I'll stick around to see how it goes.

Soil beds are great. but the cleanup in the end is a bitch. The idea is the plants never get root bound. The roots can reach across the whole bed. They do kind of compete against each other but they also help each other too. Check out Growing Soma Style. I used to grow in beds then applied the soma method to pots. i just hated the cleanup in the end. the pots are so much easier and it kind of sucks when one plant is 2 feet tall and the other in the same bed is half that.

Here's a little update already.....not much to show yet. I set up a little irrigation system haha!! I'm gonna have fun with this if nothing else.

I can tell you that you will have a few runts in there.... any plant that takes off and creates great roots will use up space for another.

Well, that's ok, as long as the runts don't leave a blank space too much, and I can train and tie the ones that dominate to cover the whole tray, I'll be happy. If not. oh well, but I don't think it's gonna be that big of an issue.

Great idea setting that up, I have done the same in the past, put the pump on a timer (cheap-o) system that saved a lot of hassle and sure did get the job done. I've been interested in Grape Ape so this sure excites me.

I'm kinda excited about this one too, cause for one, it'll be the first time I try the 12-1 light schedule, and the bed sharing is a trial too, so I'm getting some good info in a couple different areas. I've got the 1000 HPS and the 600 MH together for flowering, which I've never done either.

NO, it's the 12-1 or gas lamp theory. 12 hours on, then off for 5.5 hours, on for an hour, off for 5.5, and then 12 again, so your only using 13 hours of light time to keep em' in veg. Then in flower, you start at 11/13 and go down half an hour every 2 weeks till you finish at 9 on and 15 off, which is closer to natural light, and it saves on electricity. It supposedly doesn't effect at all, your yield.

That 12/1 sounds intersting im going to have to look that up never heard of it befor

just about to start a crop , can anyone tell me if they ever tried that gas lamp theory? I could be vegging using only 13hours of light a day instead of 18 and have the same result? its hard to believe!

I can't say yet, but just in a few days I see my little Grape Apes (slow veggers) are growing a little, nothing out of the ordinary, but just as much as normal I think. I know the flowering hours in this theory will work fine, but IDK if in veg they'll grow as fast as they do on 24 hours light like they try to say.
