400w MH vs 600w HPS

Hi all, at the moment i'm doing a one plant scrog in a 1mx1m tent.

Im using a 400w MH to veg and then plant to flower under 600w HPS.

I can get the 400 MH about 8-10 inch's off and the 600 HPS about 15-18 inch's

My question is, should I just ditch the 400 and veg under the 600? would it grow faster under the 600?

Cheers for your help

400 is plenty in that space for veg

Bigger lights are always better....the question is are you willing to spend the money to cool the area off? If you create and oven you'll mess everything up and you'd be better off using the lower wattage light.

hi all, i have exhaust fans and temps are no problems, will it veg harder under a 600 further away from the cannopy or will it grow just as fast for now under the 400w mh

I use the same set up and I think 400 is plenty for veg. I did run a 400HPS for flower the first few grows and can tell you that you will yield more off the 600HPS but temps do jump up. Quality bulbs make a huge difference too.

HPS will make your plant stretch more...for vegging MH has a better spectrum, makes for compact, bushy plants. The red light from an HPS mimics the light of the sun in autumn (lower in the sky, more atmosphere to pass through, more blue is scattered, hence more red remains) when plants flower.

Agree with the others on keeping the 400MH for veg and use the 600 when flowering. With the size of your tent, the 600W will give you much better penetration, something that should be less of an issue while you are in veg, once the stretch kicks in, you will appreciate the extra penetration.

Agree with the others. More importantly than light intensity is spectrum. Plants in veg under HPS will stretch and will lack the blue spectrum needed to establish healthy roots and lush foliage. 400W MH veg to 600W HPS flower in a 1 meter space seems about perfect.

You have to remember that a MH is in the blue spectrum and HPS is in the red so a HPS for veg is a bad idea. Just use the MH to veg and the HPS to flower or if you don't want to switch bulbs then buy a full spectrum bulb or dual arc.

Im a noob. 1st grow. 400w hps veg and flower in a 3.5 × 3.5 diy tent. Ffof soil and nutes.
50 days veg 15 days into flower.

Use what ya got and carpe diem that shit.
