its been a good 24 hours since my HPS has been turned on and ive noticed today that my light keeps turning from the orangy glow to almost a MH colour then it turns off then turns back on is orange then slowly turns back to the MH colour, what could be the problem?

so i checked all the wires and everything checks out. the ballast and light were in like an old ass street post lamp i just modified it by taking out the light by usen an extention chord for more slack in my lights wire to the ballast. the ballast is outside the grow box and its pretty damn cold in the room so its not hot at all. any other ideas mannurse? perhaps this is the bulb telling me to change it? im not sure what HPS do when there shot

if I remember correctly.... *scratches head* allot of street lights do the same thing.. i allways figured it was what they supposed to do

my 400 HPS was a hand me down. it would flicker out for a few hours... i'd come in and be like''why is my shit off?'' i bought a new bulb and it stopped. the color of the light changed from a pinkish orange to just orange.... bulbs dim over time and become less efficient. it usually has a silverish MH look to it when it starts up.. maybe your power isn't sufficient. like mine flickers just a little bit when the washer cycles.

it takes like 1 minute to get back goin. heres what it does, starts up just fine infact it takes a whole minute to get to full brightness. then about 5 min down the line it goes to a MH colour for a good 15ish mins then turns off for seriously a minute maybe less and repeats.but sometimes it stays on for hours then does it. the power thing is fine i had a 400 MH running off the same plug. my familys pretty cool with me growen so they turn off the lights and what not when its not in use so i dont think its power. maybe its the bulb, i noticed when i first took it all apart i couldnt get the bulb to unscrew so i was real careful taken it apart lol

get a new bulb. i picked one up for 25 bucks. replace especially if it's charred black(not clear). i'm sure i had the exact problem and that solved it. go to loew's, they have them. hope it helps.

yer id say it would be the bulb if not wouldnt realy know. if it turned off every 12 hours i was gonna say maybe they have a relay or something because it was a street light but think there solar controlled

yeah theres 2 wires that dont connect to anything im assuming the guy who wired up the plug for me took the relay out and thats what the wires went to. i decided to put the ballast back in the metal street lamp casing and stand it upright. then i let the bulb cool down for a good 10 or so minutes. this seems to have solved the problem if anything happens again im just goin to buy a new bulb. thanks for the help guys +rep for all
