Really??? Mine are under a 400 and are not leggy AT ALL. And are pretty thick

So yes a 400 will work depending on the space it's in

400watt hps during vegging will make you plant all leggy and not thick
this is just wrong ... i run HPS through vegge and flower .... my plants are all thick stemed and very tight nose spacing, so tight its hard to clone cause there's no stem hardly.

if your using a plain 2700k hps bulb your not getting the right spectrum during veg really depends on the strain you might have some green in there it may be a little stretched but just imagine what you would be looking at if you had the right spectrum for veg possibly 10x the amount of nodes you are getting more nodes = more buds

im sure you get decent results but your wasting your plants full potential even if you just added a few 6500k cfls you would see a big difference

there is plenty of options out there to choose from you could get a hps ballast but get a mh conversion bulb to put in during veg you could get a ceramic metal halide those are awsome they produce high points around 3000k and 5500k good for both veg and flower or you could just use a run of the mill hps and add a few 6500k cfls

i got 6 ladies in there i use a budget compost that has about four weeks worth of nutes in it. i make a mix of that compost@70% and vermiculite@30% my nutes are 100% organic as i use bio bizz fish mix and bio bizz top max.

the only reason it would make them leggy is if the light is too far away.........
if you don't know what your talking about don't chime in a give someone who is trying to learn false information hps is the wrong spectrum 2700k is specifically to make the plant taller and build size including bud size has nothing to do with foliage some might pop out but you veg with 2700k from seed your not gonna have much of a plant
