400w hps grow

Is your hps bulb mixed with blue spectrum? If it doesn't have enough blue spectrum your plants will stretch alot during vegg. You can get a metal halide bulb for like $30 from home depot but make sure your ballast supports both HPS and MH bulbs.
Would people stop spreading this rumor please? It's completely untrue.

What rumor? The mh bulb or the ballast... I know you can run a mh on a hps ballast with reduced life unless you by pass the igniter...

Right..I wasnt challenging it.. I Have just heard the usual and try to move my lights closer by lowering the temps..

hey go to hear to buy you 400 watt bilbs www.htgsupply.com get the one that is interchangeable hey i have tried cfl's , leds hands down MH an HPS is the way to go wait until my update on my journal omg!
Man. I wanted to get some led. But I want atleast a 300 watter and I just don't have the loot ATM. But I'm planning on it in a few months. Just a lot of cash to me right now. But I like the lowerpower consumption and the lower heat. I've seen some guys get good results with them too. !

First full day of veg with the hps one foot away. .... Looks like it may work well. Already showing new nodes. I'll get some good pics this weekend. But I think I'm gonna stick with the hps. It's kinda warm. 85-90 But the plants don't seem to mind. I have the room set to 78 but the thermometer is showing about 90 during the day. I have a fan on them to cool them down. Anyway it looks promising , I'll post a few pics fri or sat. Things are looking good!

They may look like they like it in that 85-90 degrees range but it will affect the yield (unless you supplement with c02) Id say do your best to get it under 85 tops otherwise

It isn't lower power consumption, thats a bit of a conundrum. LEDS have proven capable of some good grows but still not comparable to HPS in the main and that when running equal wattage. a 300w led will use as much power as a 300w hps of course.

The difference is in the heat, or lack thereof; but like most things, its still pretty unviable at the prices. When a 600w LED costs only a little more than a bulb (and ballast) then it will be a godsend

Are you saying this from experience or just speculating?

I have found this from growing my own plants out here where I'm constantly battling temps, so just personal findings

Well in the phase their in at the moment (veg) they seem tomb doing well. Tight nodes and compact and green. When I start to flower I'm going to get the temps/rh really low. I have a window unit ac in the room with them. At flower time I think I'll set it to 70-75. This will also pull moisture out of the air. I won't have a way to measure rh but should he pretty close to none then. The room stays sealed off , except for me coming in. I may go a bit lower in temps I need to do some research first tho. Shit. I used to grow in an attic that got over 100 regularly and did decent up there with fluoro's. So hps and climate control will only help :)

Wow vegging under the hps and going much faster under the hps than cfl... Huge difference.. Its been three days and the growth is substantial.. No stretching either :weed: ... I wish I would have started this way.. Oh well.. Now i know for next time.

20 more days till flower time. These things are starting to take off. I have 9 going. Hopefully end up with 4-6 females. Man. I'm excited! They Are looking great. Most have 5 nodes and are under 5 inches. Be ready for pics in a few days.

Thanks Pure.

I just put a larger A/C in that room to help my temps. It should work great...Its good for 600sqft.... And that room is only 100sqft... Also it has a energy saver features that are goood. shuts off when the desired temp is reached. Which for right now is set at 79... I think ill take it down to 74 for flower. Any one have any input on flower temps??? I know cooler is generally the rule of thumb since nature is cooler during the fall.. But where might the line be between maximizing thc and where you start to hurt growth??

Looking good so far but can you ensure you pot them in the centre of the pots cos it bugs me haha.

You dont want lower temps during flower. Not with the lights on anyway, 78 degrees is ideal all the way through;here we have a chance to be better than nature. They can tolerate temps down to about 65 during the dark. Cool temps in the dark can bring some fruits to colour with purples etc.
