400 watt venting question

ok so i have a 400w hps, ballast, and im gonna be getting a reflector hood in the next few days. i have been going back and forth about 250w and 400w. i will be growing in a room that cannot vent to outside. i live in a fairly cold climate especially fall through spring. is it possible to run my outtake through a filter and just into my bedroom? or will the heat build up still be too much? id like to just exhaust the heat out of the grow tent and into my bed room right next store rather than make a setup to go outside. any info would help.

in other words. could i have a grow tent in my bedroom, and just exhaust fan outside of the tent and into my room. would this work?

You can run the outtake into the room the tent is in. Just as long as you have an a/c cooling the room. The tent can only be as cool as the room it is in. I have my tent in a spare bedroom and it exhausts into the room but I usually have the a/c on unless it's cold outside.

p.s. go with the 400w

I'm running a non-cooled 400w HPS in a closet, and the only venting I have is the closet door. It's a remote magnetic ballast model from HTG Supply, and I have the ballast sitting on a shelf in the closet above the light. I have a 150cfm computer fan blowing across the bulb and a 20" box fan pulling air across the plants and toward the closet door. It could be better, but it's not giving me any heat problems as it is. Smell is my only issue with this setup, not heat.

Go with the 400w

thanks for the info guys, i really appreciate it. im gonna have to grow in an attic but its a pretty big room considering id only be using one light, and considering these next couple of months its gonna be getting cold outside.

Chalba... so you have a 400w hps and a box fan running all the time to exhaust air out?

Yes. I'm in a 3' x 7' closet in a back bedroom, and I just keep one of the closet doors about halfway open. I put the box fan right next to the plants, blowing out the open closet door. The little 150cfm fan is hanging on the end of my hood, and it just blows across the bulb. It's certainly not ideal, but it just goes to show you that a 400w isn't really that hot. You get into trouble and start needing the monster fans and vent work when you are confined to a small sealed room or tent where the heat builds up and the air gets stuffy. As far as ventilation goes, my grow room is the same size as the bedroom it's located in. I just have them in the closet for the reflective walls, the ability to hold in some humidity, and so I can close the closet doors when it's lights out time. Otherwise I would just have them sitting in the middle of the bedroom floor.

If you run a non-cooled hood in your attic, then you might consider building some walls around the grow area that are only as high as you intend to grow the plants. The light would hang above the walls and greatly improve airflow over the bulb. Then all you need are a couple of small exhaust fans mounted down low in the walls. A buddy of mine did this for a while in his attic before he built a dedicated grow room up there, which then required him to more seriously address heat and ventilation issues.
