40 inch height restriction

I posted this in Indoor Growing, but have had no response. It's a long ramble but if you have advise I would appreciate it.

That is the distance from the flood table to the bottom of the glass on the reflectors. I'm wondering if I should keep the ebb and flow system or move to a drip that would allow me to place the plants on the floor and gain another 14 inches or so. My plants recently got too big so I pulled out the table and reservoir and will be hand watering for the last month. With a little different lighting system (600W) that gave me more space I pulled 13 oz off 9 plants. Recently I upgraded to two 600W lamps with reflectors and pulled 19 oz off 2 plants, these plants vegged all summer and were placed on the floor and hand watered. Throughout I've been topping plants and end up with 5-7 colas per plant. The question I'm asking is can I begin flowing sooner and top like a madman and pull a similar yield (grams per watt) with the plants being around 30 inches from top of roots to top of colas? I've been growing ISS since the beginning, in a Darkroom 150W. I've had people doubt my numbers before so if you want to talk shit send me a message and keep this thread informational. Thanks

Hey man..how many plants do you fit in there? You ever do a SOG grow? I just got my tent and am looking to maximize my yield. What you recomend to get the most buds? I just have a 600HPS. Thanks man. Any tips would be appreciated too...plants look good. Peace!

I also am under height restrictions. My solution was to create custom tanks to get better use of the footprint. My second option I heavily considered was to do the drip system. Even though my idea is going to cost a hell of a lot more in the long run. What ran out this decision of not going drip was the hassles and maintenance time involved with using a drip system.

Another idea I had was to have a vertical tank. If you are a gadget kind of guy, you could rig up a tank that can open an solenoid valve that floods or drips the tray. Then that tray is pumped out when the level rises and activates a floating valve switch to pump the nutes back into the vertical tank. They actually have premade systems that work on this principle. it comes with cool ass looking square pots. It uses a drip system for feeding. I forget what it's called, but you could find it with a bit of nosing around on here and hydroponic store websites.

hope this can help kick start the creativity juice for ya.
Good luck!

I'd like to see your custom tanks. I haven't looked into drip system. What are the common problems associated with a drip system? I'm going to continue to top like mad and start the flowering earlier while using the ebb and flow. This will be test of sorts, if the yield stays about the same I'm good and if it doesn't I'll work on a solution. I don't want to remodel my setup if I don't have to.

I've fit 13 plants but the last couple grows I've only flowered three at a time. As long as you top your plants correctly the number of plants doesn't matter in my experience. I still get the same number of grams per watt either way. I've never looked into a SOG grow. I try to keep the number of plants to a minimum. I think I've heard that SOG is a bit of work, but you should probably look around this site to get better information.
