Hi. Im a first time grower. Figured id keep a journal here.

My setup:
4'x4' secret jardin dr120 grow tent
2 600 watt cool tube lights
6" inline fan

I have the fan blowing air into my cooltubes and have them exhausting outside my tent into my house. I live in interior alaska so it is usually pretty cold outside. This fact and my exhaust system will hopefully alow me to keep my temps down (I hope). Today i ran both lights for an hour and am able to hold my hand within 3 inches of the light with no discomfort. This is good yes? Tomorrow i will get a thermometer to see what the tent temperature gets to.

I plan on scrogging. Im gonna make a 4'x4' screen and hang it in the tent for easy height adjustment.

Right now i have 2 clones that are about 1 week old. Hopefully they will get in the tent within the next few days. Im looking forward to sharing my grow with you and welcome any feedback/criticism.

Cheers!

Sounds like a good setup you got going there, and to answer your question yes being able to hold your hand 3 inches under the light without feeling any discomfort is a great thing, but you also have to keep in mind that even though your hand doesn't feel discomfort the plants will (light bleaching) so it's good to keep a 600 watt light at least 12 to 20 inches away from the tops of the plants.

Thanks enigmatic. Didnt transplant today, but i did build my scrog screen. I used nylon rope. My plan is to suspend the screen from the top tent bars. I figure i may have to anchor it to the bottom bars too if the plants want to push it up.

I got soil today too. Im gonna do a 50 % mix of fox farm ocean forest and happy frog and add perlite (33% of total soil volume). Any thoughts on this soil mix? From what ive read it sounds good.

I am planning to use 7 gallon pots. I think at most i will have 3 or 4 plants in the tent. Probly more like 2 or 3.

Thanks for reading :)

Also forgot to mention that i got a thermometer and with the lights and exhaust on it reads about 90 F when it is on the floor of the tent. When placed at the top of the tent it reads more like 87 F. This is with the fan at low speed. Id like to keep it low because its quiter but i can always turn it up higher.

Where is the best place to position a thermometer for acurate tent temp measurements?

I also got an IR thermometer so i imagine getting the temp at the top of the plant will be pretty good.

Sounds like a good soil mix, but instead of 33% perlite I think 50% is better. And if you're only going to have two to three plants I highly suggest using the biggest pots that you can at least 10 gallons pots, remember the bigger the roots the bigger the buds! 90 degrees 87 degrees is too hot, you definitely want to find a way to get that in check, marijuana grows best at a temperature of about 75 degrees, but it can handle those high temperatures but you can easily run into problems. And you should keep your thermometer at the same height that the plants are at for best reading.

I appreciate your replys and advice enigmatic, thanks. I got a small duct fan from the hw store and now my temperature seems to be b/w 79 and 81F. I transplanted a blue dream and a super lemon haze plant into 7 gal buckets because thats the only size i could find locally. I used 50% perlite in a 50 50 mix of the two foxfarm soil and added a very small amount of a broad spectrum innoculant

I can maybe get another plant or two in the next week or so. would you scrog 2, 3, or 4 plants in 7 gal pots in a 4x4 tent?

These plants are about 2.5 to 3 weeks old now i think.

Your welcome, good call on using a inoculant, that should give your ladies a nice boost. Sorry never did scrog so I'm not sure on that one, but your plants are looking nice and healthy.

Well i just flipped the lights and bulbs. Got 2 600 watt hps lights now. I also got 2 new plants since the last update so there are 4 in there now. This is the 3 or 4 day since they have been in 12/12.

Im using fox farm nutes. I started very low, cutting their recomended dosages by 4 and just recently worked my way up to using the full strength recomended by their feeding chart. Things have been great so far, no issues really.
