I just bought a grow tent 48x96x78. I was looking for a tote where I could grow 4 plants in one container. I have 2" & 6" net pots. Does anyone know where I can find roughly a 40"x40"x12" container or tote. If not that size something in that ballpark. I think 36" square may even work. I was also thinking of building a plywood box and line it with a pond liner or waterproofing it with west systems 2 part epoxy. I also would like to know how deep the water needs to be. Right now I have small plants plugged into a 2" thick piece of Styrofoam floating in a kiddie pool but it wont fit in the new tent. I am on a second floor and dont want all the piping connections required for RDWC which is the reason for wanting one large tote even if I need to brace it is fine. I had a RDWC setup in the basement but it is too cold in the winter. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!

Home Depot or Lowes has 54 gal Rubbermaid totes that are something like 42"x21"x16" tall for about $10-$12. They would easily hold 4 plants. They also have smaller 37 gal and 18gal. These are the totes most people recommend because they are lightproof, less likely to leak and hold up over time. Look in the DIY section there are a bunch of tutorials .

Hey thanks for the reply! Do the plants get configured in a straight line or set 2 by 2? I am looking to set it 2x2 . I have a 600 watt light on each side in about a 20" square hood with glass and vents. I just think the light will reach them better arranged 2 by 2 but will they be spaced enough in a 21" wide tote? I will go check out that section of the forums now. THANKS AGAIN!

Get (4x) 3 inch diameter netcups, and a circle cutting bit that fits (79mm hole saw would work). That will save a lot of time trying to cut circles manually. I personally like to use multiple smaller totes for flowering without connecting them together, of course this is a small operation.

The smaller totes I use have an inline 3 cups, but only use the middle one (big plant) or 2 outer ones (small plants), never all 3. So to get 4 netcups, You'd use 2 smaller totes, with 2 plants each.

You could fit 4 plants in the 54 gal tote. Divide the top in quarters and put 1 plant in each quarter, you'll have to figure out the actual spacing. That would be just under 2ft sq per plant. It's going to need a support structure. With a 4ft x 8ft tent and 2 600w lights you could easily fit two totes and 8 plants...so many ways to do it, each way has advantages and disadvantages.

PS - Ha i typed this out yesterday and never posted it, opened up the forum this morning and here it still was..funny i thought my browser deleted all history/cookies/etc..need to go fix that..

Thanks for your thoughts guys! This is what I finally did. This measures 30x30x12 and the insulation foam keeps the chiller from working too hard. I am topping this off with a 4ft x 4ft x 2" piece of blue foam an cutting my 6" net pots into it. I used silicone on the foam then used painters plastic to line it. So far so good I just need to secure the plastic to the top of the tank. I also need to cut in the holes for piping of the chiller. This design prevents my res from being affected by the higher temps in the tent. With the 4x4 ft piece on top it is flush all the way around the tent. The tent comes tomorrow so I will post final pics then. I still need to make another for the other side of the tent. I was even thinking of going with 6 pots in each tank for 12 plants total. Let me know your thoughts!

here is an update Dont laugh at my scrubber. It is an old air purifier packed with charcoal and added a vent to the top. It also has an ozone generator on it. Hey it allowed me to get a second 600 light for the other side of tent. Also shown is my chiller which is actually 2 units tied together. The heater works on one but the refrigeration doesn't work on the other. I jumped the remote wire from one to turn on the other. Ghetto yea but whatever. It works just as well!
