My goal for this grow is to see if I can replace my 2 * 600W HID grow with LED's. I am not concentrating on anything other than to see if the LED's can output at least 80% of what the HID does.

Genetics:

18 - Dinafem Industrial Plant (average 11" going into flower)
4 - Greenhouse Seeds NL5 Haze Mist (all on the LED side)

Soil & Nutes:

Straight Biobizz! I'm a huge fan.

Light Mix for seeds
All Mix for veg/flower
Full nute line minus Fish-Mix
Foliar w/ Alg a Mic weekly

5 gallon smart pot rolled down to approx 2 gallons with fencing around the edge for tie down
3 Qt plastic pots for the NL5

Veg:

Old Homebox tent 4' 9" square with open sides
2 - Hydrofarm T5s 4' 8 bulb

Flower:

Secret Jardin Dark Room II - DR300W tent 5 * 10

Lighting:

left side -
600 watt Nextgen ballast
Ushio HiLux Gro Hps bulb
8" Magnum XXXL hood - vented by a
8" Vortex inline

Right side -
4 - Kessil H350 Magenta

Sentinel Co2 CPPM Controller

Compressed tank

RO water

Soleus Air DP1-30-03 Dehumidifier

Carbon scrubber w/ 6" inline

Great set up an experiment.
I'd love to run those Kessil leds stead of my lil 15o w HPS an 175w CMH.

Nice thread, looks good. It's cool to see the colour difference on the HID and the LED. Nice thread.

As everyone else said......great thread:-P

So by looking at your great pics, the 350's realistic coverage area is 2x2 max.......does this sound about right???
And what the noise(fan) level like of the kessils??

thanks and happy growing...

Fantastic thread, subbed up. Fascinating to see the side by side shot. The LED plant looking greener & bushier at this stage :)

Psuagro. 2 by 2 is right. They say 3 by but I wanted a realistic comparison. Once this goes well I'll buy 4 more to replace the remaining HID. No more noisy inline fans! No more cooling problems. The Kessil fan is not loud at all. Even all 4 fans together are pretty quiet.

Greener and bushier is right. I had to trim up a lot more off the LEDs.

This idea looks great.... but I do have a question : is there a divider between the 2 lighting types..only it looks like the Kessil side could still be using some of the 600's excess light from the pic you've posted?!! I do hope there is a divider screen/curtain etc.. in-place, if not do you think you could find a way to do this ?? I'd love to change to a Kessil setup .. I'am guessing it runs alot more quietly than an HID setup with a 6" or 8" in-line fan running flat-out!??

Other than that all looks exceptional man! Can't wait to see your next update/s and how the stand-off turns out :) - STELTHY :leaf:

No curtain. I thought about it and then figured that if there is substantial light loss at only a 12" drop, the plants on the kessil side will recieve very little usable light. They are 3' (ish) and off to the side. Overall, it doesn't really matter to me as I'm going full Kessil next grow, even if I have to use 5 per 4*4 space. I am flat out done with HID.

don't get me wrong, in running commercial grows kessils would be a very large outlay. But with only 2 4*4 spots to fill, heck, even 4 4*4 spots, kessils are for me.

Now, if there is only 50% of the weight on the kessil side, then I'll reconsider but so far, even though its so early, flower development looks the same.

Subbed. Have you looked into HO T5s using aquarium bulbs?- sort of like leds but with greater coverage

The local grow shop tried to talk me out of the LEDs and into the HO T5. I just had to test these for myself. If this project were to fail, I'd try the T5's though. LED = no bulb replacement for years and years. If these work well, that is going to payoff bigtime.

I hope it works out for you........these kessils are peaking my interest again...

First time poster- but very interested in the results of this comparison as a chilli-grower keen to see if LED and particularly the small-form factor Kessils can sufficiently penetrate to produce throughout a plant rather than just at top canopy...

High quality comparison chief, and awesome plant colorations.

Benm, canopy management cant solely be left to the lights for effective penetrations; however, observing the bushyness, happy rich colored leaves, and stoutness of these lil tikes; this tells me they are receiving a spectrum that is satisfying them to the point they dont much need to reach for any light. This is a great sign, and can allow for higher concentrations on flower developments (= bigger buds), and less on daily plant maintenances.

I might add a few as supplementals into the mix for the future, great job bro

Benm, consider this philosophy... Effectively penetrating any top canopy beyond eighteen inches, will largely rely on the types of strains and the training techniques you use; even if your running a 1000w hps.
