Mission:

The mission of my grow is to provide myself, and only myself, with a reliable supply of medical marijuana while staying 100% within the medical marijuana laws of the state I live in. I do not need massive amounts, an ounce or two per month will be sufficient. I intend to do a perpetual grow of 4-6 plants in flower and 2-4 in clone/veg.

The Grow Spot
:

Currently I have a grow cabinet, it used to house a TV and accessories. It has two compartments separate of each other. The bigger is on top 33in wide, 18in deep, and 41 1/2in tall. The bottom compartment is 33in wide, 18in deep, and 25 1/2in tall. I plan to flower up top, and clone/veg below.

Things that need to be done: Line the walls with mylar, make 6" holes for ventilation. Make both compartments "light leak proof", currently I'm unsure how to go about doing this.

The Lighting:

Flower:
I have a 400watt HPS setup(ballast, socket, cooltube, reflector) on its way to me, the first time it came I refused the package cause it the box sounded like it was full of broken glass. So in the future I will be using a 400watt HPS and possibly additional CFL's to flower.

Currently I have a bunch of CFL 2700's (200 watts or so worth) in a bathroom lighting fixture(DIY reflector type thing). I am not going to get into that because I don't intend to use it much longer.

Veg:
Today I purchased a 2 foot T5 High Output Fluorescent Fixture. It holds 4 bulbs @ 24watts each, so a total or 96watts @ 6500K. I believe this will be sufficient to clone and veg 2-4 plants up to 1 foot.

The Soil:

For soil I have Fox Farm Light Warrior, and Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Obviously the Light Warrior is for seedlings/cloning, and the Ocean Forest is for veg/flowering. I will be adding perlite to the FF potting soil, but for now I don't intend to add anything else.

The Nutes:

General Organics BioThrive Grow(4-3-3) and Bloom(2-4-4). I also have some Alaska Fish Emulsion(5-1-1) which I may not use, and I may use anything else that I think I need when it comes to that.

The Plants:

3x Purple Urkle clone I got from a dispensary. I'm fairly certain that they are indeed Purple Urkles https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/463952-whos-grown-purple-urkle.html.

3x Stoney Girl Seeds. I bought a variety pack with 10 seeds also from the same dispensary. The variety pack does not specify which seeds are what strain so I have no idea. For one reason or another, only 3 of them sprouted.

Additional Info:
Anyone is welcome to comment, offer feedback, criticize my grow, whatever you might feel you need to do.
This is my first "real" grow so to say, it will be a huge learning experience for me.

urkle2.jpgPurpleUrkle.jpgCurrently, I only have 1 plant in flower. I've taken 5 clippings from it, hoping 2 successfully clone.(I've never clones before.) The plant that is in flower is Purple Urkle, I switched lights to 12/12 on 9/8/11. I got it as a clone around 8/10(I don't really remember which is why I've started a journal so I can keep track of things) so it had about a month to veg.

In clone/veg I have the 3x Stoney Girl Seeds and 5x clippings. The seedlings began to germ around 8/10 and must have popped out 7-10 days later and have been in veg ever since. I've had some problems with them, but I think they are better now. I will also be transplanting them into bigger pots tonight. The three uptop are the seedlings, and obviously the clones are in the humidity dome.

I just got a couple things in the mail that will go along with the 400watt HPS system I am getting. 25' 6" ducting, and an inline fan.

The 400w will make a big difference but you need a footprint of about 3x3. Maybe SLIGHTLY less but not much. Extract from top of room and inlet from bottom. IMO that area is too small.
When taking clones, use a Razor blade then spray the clones daily (I do mine twice) with clean water using an atomizer (I use a perfume bottle I managed to get the top off).
The longer the duct run, with the more bends in it, the less effective the fan will be.
Have you sorted out a carbon filter as that will stink!
Look into Scrogging as it ups yield, is easy and with minimal extra costs.

I agree the 400w will make a big difference. The space I have to work with is all I have for now, maybe in a few months I will be able to get a 3x3 tent. One of my clones successfully rooted, but I accidentally ripped the entire roots off it when trying to change out the soil.(Figured out the soil was full of salt). I changed the soil to Foxfarms light warrior. As for the stink, I don't really care. It will be a legal grow out in the country. I do intend to scrog also, as soon as I can come up with some sort of contraption for that.(Might just use some bailing twine and make a web in my grow box).

Kind of an update.. just to get everything easy to see where I'm at
1 Purple Urkle in 3gal pot -flower
3x SGS Seedlings in 6" pots -veg
5x Purple Urkle clippings in solo cups inside of a humidity dome -cloning

Just built a contraption for scrogging, still have to put the plant into it. Will post a picture of that tonight.. Trying to decide if clipping off fan leaves for better penetration to the smaller growth is going to be good for my plant or not, any comments on that?

Spent about 30 minutes arranging things, I think its as good as it will get for now. I decided to not clip any fan leaves since it is just now starting to produce hairs as its been in 12/12 for a week. As it sits now it takes up 18in x18in. thats half of my space! Anyways.. here are some pictures.screenlol.jpgspot.jpgscreenlol1.jpgtop1.jpg

Screen looks real good, should be perfect for the job. Maybe wait till the others are a little bigger and see if you can squeeze a couple more plants into ur scrog. That space u have though looks perfect for a 2 plant scrog. Either way the one u got there now looks real nice and healthy.

So now that I've got everything kinda shaping into place, it is very obvious I will have a hard time with space. The good news is that I am moving out of this duplex, and into a house which has an additional room built on to it. The room is of good size, it has a window, and two other "screen" windows. Anyways, the move is what is pinching all my finances at the moment and for the next couple months. The fiancee and I decided that room alone will be for my grow, and now she is really considering getting her own medical marijuana card cause she wants to see that room full of bushes.

In other news, I have a lot of the same wood I used to make my screen frame with. I bet I could build a frame for a grow box, just need to research what types of materials would be good to put around the frame. I was thinking maybe fabric that is already mylar reflective on the inside. Or maybe just some plywood sheets. Ideas?

MDF is cheap. Maybe even get some off-cuts from the diy store. Whatecer you use, paint the inside with white emulsion and use duck tape over any joins to stop light leaks. If security and smell aren't a problem, leave the top open, just use passive fans and get heavy curtains in the room. Just don't open the door to the room during lights off if there is any light from the hall.

Just got my 400watt HPS setup today, to tired after working all day though to do much about it. I might go shop around for something to cut some 6" holes with.. actually yeah I will. Be back later.. maybe with some pics too.

U'll soon be wanting a 600W watch, HPS's are the shit though, will make a huge difference in flowering.

Hah, I KNOW! The more I read other journals the more I notice that people tend to start with CFL, then get a 400, then a 600. I honestly think that a 400 will supply me personally with more than enough though.

Well, its a sad day cause I just now found out that my cooltube will not fit inside of my grow box. Humm.. pondering..

So I found a way to fit the cooltube in, but as you will see in the pictures its a tight fit. I am planning to build something like 4x4x5 just need the additional funds to roll in. Or I may just buy a tent close to that size. Anyways, the growth over the last week is pretty big on all my plants. The one in flower is putting out white hairs, the three seedlings exploded since being put under the T5, and 3 of 5 clones have rooted. I expect the other two will root as well as I am seeing some new growth on them. Humidity dome is winning the clone battle for me.

So here are the pictures.

Also... All the new growth since switching to Fox Farms Ocean Forest for my seedlings looks great. You can see some of the old growth that is still ugly and deformed. I wish I had invested the money in the proper setup to begin with.

Also also.. the stuff you see on the leaves is cause I drilled a few holes into the side of my grow box and the shavings dropped into one of my mini black fans and blew it all over my plant. Lesson learned.

A 400W is MORE than enough for my space too, I'm just a greedy bastard! My reflector has to sit at an angle otherwise it doesn't fit in my cab either, i know what that scare is like

Totally, I sort of paniced at first but once I got it setup how it is now I was able to keep temps at 77 95% of the day. I also have an air conditioner in that same room which cools my whole duplex. In the evening when the ambient temps raised a few degrees so did my cab but never above 79. I think this is going to work until I can get a bigger box.

I've read a few posts about the pit bull and others have liked it as well. Like I said before it was a non labeled variety pack so I'm not sure exactly what I've got, but should be something good :)

My mate did an understairs-cupboard scrog grow with height problems and simply had his scrog screen at an angle to match the light. Not ideal but it worked.
Best bit was he hid it so well. He got busted twice and they never found it!
