2x2 and 4x4 tent clones perpetual idea

So, I want to run perpetual setup with two tents, which are 2x2 and 4x4 size. I want to run clones, because I am sick of autos which I grew till now. I want more consistency. I get 450-550g from autos with dimming my DIY Samsung lights to 400 W at wall.

So... what's the plan? I want to use full lights, so 650 W at wall. I want at least 600 grams dry, so with 4 clones this is 150g per plant or with 5 plants that's 120g per plant.
Let's say I have 60 day strain. So 4x4 tent gets new plants/clones every 60 days. Right before I transfer clones to 4x4 tent, I cut new 4-5 clones.

I guess 2x2 tent is too small to hold clones for that long. Let's say I get roots in 10 days. So that's 50 days of veg. And I can only fit 4 10L pots inside 2x2 tent. Maybe 5 if I use 8L pots. Also if you have some pics of clones, I would be happy to see them for 50 days veg. Topping also.

So... what's your opinion on this? Don't say me I need bigger tent or some of that nonsense. Let's talk about idea what's best for what I have.

You only need to veg clones for like 3-4 weeks I do 3 in coco. I use 3 tents though and the two flowering are 5 weeks apart for 10 week strains. Cloner for two weeks then veg 3 then into next empty flower tent.

Yes, you can do it, although you might end up vegging in your 4x4 tent for a week or two if the clones outgrow the 2x2 tent. I have a 2x4 for veg and 4x4 for flower, I take clones right before I start to flower, in 3 weeks the clones should have roots, I veg for another month in the 2x4 tent then move to the 4x4 tent and veg for another week or two.

You just need to time the clones so that don't grow too quickly while the 4x4 tent is flowering. You can do this by controlling the amount of light they get, so if the clones are growing too fast and you are giving them 18 hours of light, you can reduce that to 16 hours of light or even as low as 14 hours of light without putting them into flower.

Also, be sure to top and low stress train for the best results in a small tent. This will also extend the time in veg and help you use the smaller tent as much as possible.

Sadly I don't have place for third tent. Also I think clones would die, if I don't have them under the light all time. So 3-4 weeks veg time is no go for my setup, unless I go with seeds. Which I don't want.

The clones take at least 3 weeks just to grow roots, then another month vegging in your 2x2 tent and you're at 7 weeks, no problem.

It's always best to keep a mother plant but if you don't have space, take some clones and keep them in smaller pots until later in the grow, a few weeks before your crops matured repot them ready to go and veg for 1/2 weeks then onto flower, 2x2 gives you 1ft of canopy per plant to go onto the 4x4 almost ready to flip.

If you keep the tent cooler and clones under T5s/fluorescent you'll get slow compact growth.

I've a 3x2 clone tent it's a good size sufficient for a mother and 10 clones with room to spare, it's cheap to light and heat being so short and small.

Timing is critical here. We go through this every grow and like right now, we are trying a different cloning method with Rapid Rooters... been using aero cloners, but they have proven to be unreliable. We have different amounts of volume, but try to time your clones to be ready to transplant when you get your veg room clean and clear.

A 2x2 and a 4x4 should work. I run clones in a 2.5x2.5 and flower in a 4x4 and I've even got a pepper plant in my veg tent.

I think I took these most recent clones on 10/25, I'll snap a Pic in the morning if I remember. I'm a bit worried they're gonna over grow the tent before my flower tent finishes, but that's surely only got a week or two left...

This time I am trying leaving them in 1 gallon cloth pots for their entire time in veg. They seem happy enough and it saves me space + an extra transplant.

This will be my first full cycle when I chop down my flower plant so we can learn together.

I found doing perpetual and trying to stick to the exact days didn't always work out, so I added 10 days and everything moves to the next box every 35 days so theres 70 days from clone cut tor veg then they do 2 more 35 days in flower and in the end I chop 2 plants every 35 days.

@RadicalRoss so you have 4 clones on pictures? They're around 60 days from clipping them from mother?
If there are 4, they are beautiful and looks exactly how I want. I guess this is then possible to get 120-150g dry per plant looking like this.

Switch to hydroponics or coco if you can and speed the veg time up...

1. Take cuts...2 weeks to root and get going.
2. Veg the cuts for 6 weeks ( and they'll get big, fast )
3. Move to larger tent, take more cuts and flip.
4. Repeat from 1.



It can be done but it just comes down to figuring out the timing of each strain really.. once you know that, you then know when to snip your next rounds cut.

Just have another tier in your veg tent, 2nd veg light and a bit of LST and you're sorted.

Actually there's also 2 plants from seed there for 6 total. The two at the front of the tent are from seed

I don't think this will work to plan. I have tried this and its never been smooth as you would like. As peeps have mentioned a whole cycle is too long for veg.

I would suggest 3 tents... starting a flower cycle every 5ish weeks alternating the 2 flower tents and using the 3rd as a mother cutting and veg tent. This works for me quite well.

Yea, exactly this is my plan. But I am scared that they will grow too big for small 2x2 tent. If I top them more than 1 time (so they stay smaller and less bushy), I am scared I will not going to get 600g dry.

First, the only way to get 150 g per plant is to top them at least once if not several times. You also want to do some Low Stress Training (LST) to get the maximum yield out of the space you have.

I agree the 2x2 tent is a little small for the schedule you want to maintain, but it's not impossible.

Here is a comparison based on my experience, I have a 2x4 veg tent and 4x4 flower tent.

This picture of 4 clones was taken 33 days after being cut from the mother plant, they took about 3 weeks to root and were transplanted twice before going into this pot:


Here the same 4 plants just 11 days later, already getting a little crowded:


So far, we have roughly 45 days, or 6.5 weeks, from taking the cutting and starting to root it. You could fit those 4 plants into a 2x2 tent but it would be really tight, especially after vegging another couple weeks. You could also start flowering right at that point.

I vegged those way too long, here is one another 40 days later in a final 5 gallon fabric pot, next to the old pot on the left:

Now, as I said, I vegged those for about 3 weeks too long, but you can see how many colas you can get if you are patient and train well.

Best way to find out if can do what you want to do is just jump right in and find out. Less is more, and the most important thing is to finish the harvest. If you get the desired yield, that's great, but get something instead of nothing by trying too hard to max the yield and stressing the plants.

You'll make mistakes, but you'll figure it out, and hopefully have fun doing it.

@Driver733 many thanks to that answer, that's what I was looking for. Yea, I am not newbie, I top and LST autos, but never grown photos or clones. Best yield with 4 autos was 650g dry, there's journal on AFN somewhere. It's all about canopy. We'll see how overcrowded will be 2x2 tent, just one way to try out. Thanks!
