2nd grow, Nirvana Bubblelicious closet scrog

Well... Bad news bears guys....
I was wrong about ole' Chadwick... It's got ballz...Still too early to tell on the other one in the speakerbox but I kinda have a bad feeling about it as well now.

SO, I decided to keep the genes around anyway. Apparently it was a nice strain that's been grown for years by the same guy around my area and he slipped up and got a batch pollinated by accident. Hence me having seeds. So I dug a hole outside, finished off the crap soil I had laying around, and plopped it in the dirt in the backyard.

However, Bubbles are going beautifully! I paid for fem seeds, so i'm expecting NO dissapointments out of my closet at least :joint:

Scrumpy: I included a few pics with the tape measure for size. From the dirt to the top of the screen.

Sonar: You think YOU can't wait? lol I'm without smoke at the moment... goin' squirrel shit around here...

Onto the pics:
Took a few different shots this time. Got Chadwick outdoors in the new home. Took one of my roomates "Deathstar" & his own Bubblelicious. Also got the undergrowth "Bush" shot of Cheyenne for fun.

feels like this is taking FOREVER, but everything is going nicely still. Both Bubblelicious plants have had their tips reach the screen. It's about time to start training, finally...

Pulled the mail out of the speakerbox and got it outside, currently being eaten to death by all kinds of insects. Gives me good insight for the hopelessness of an outdoor grow in my area. Full of nature, bugs included... However, the other one has grown at a crazy rate and is showing signs of being female. I spotted a white hair in one of the internodes. It would make sense because the females seem to take longer to show sex than the males.

Roomates plants are BOOMING lol The Deathstar plant has remained untouched and will be grown straight up without training like it would in nature as a side by side comparison for the FIM with the bubblelicious beside it. WOW the leaves are enormous on this thing as well! About the size of my palm with the larger fan leaves. Has a purple tint to the stem as well but doesn't look like it's a defficiency & instead genetics?

His Bubblelicious is now 14" compared to mine that are at 9". His also took a completely different look from the FIM than mine did. His stretched out vertically and the sides didn't have the time to catch up with the two dominant tops.

Mine seemed like they were stunted for a bit which gave the sides a chance to catch up to the tops. Now my plants seem like they are growing slowly but very bushy and with an even top canopy.

Looking lovely!
Im having some problems with bugs as well. I'm about to try this homemade shit someone told me about earlier. I'm kind of worried about it hurting the plant because of the shit that goes in it, so I'm going to spray one leaf and wait a few days to see what happens. If all is well I'll spray the rest of the plant and let you know how it works, and if you want I'll give you the recipe.

Haven't updated in awhile now so...

Both of my bubblelicious ladies have reached the screen and I have started to train them outward. They have also both shown sex at an 18-6 light schedule. Both are lovely ladies like I paid for :)

The second generation Chadwick outgrew the speakerbox and I put it in the spare room closet for now. It showed sex as well and is working on it's top bud as I type :) I transplanted her and the other little 3rd generation chadwick into some pretty large containers and I am going to finish them in them. Both are still on flowering so I am eagerly anticipating some bud shots from the 2nd gen.

My roomates plants have gone Bonkers since he transplanted into 5 gallon buckets. I can't put my finger on why mine have taken soo long and his is overtaking his space already. My only guess is because he has a much bigger "walk-in" style closet and mine is a traditional trailor sized closet. This means I have a slightly higher temperature range than him, my area can reach 85-86 durring the early mourning hours when I just have the door cracked open. I need an exhaust fan pronto....He is also expecting a new 250 HPS from HTG today too. Needless to say he's jumped in front quick lol

ohhh shit. =) lookin good man. wow. they have come a long way since the last time i checked them out!! Good fuckin work man. loving the scrog idea. bubbleicious is supposed to be a pretty big yielder anywayz.. soo i can only imagin how it will yield with the screen!! =) Keep up the good work man! it'll pay off before u know it.

Thanks for the compliment! I picked out the Bubblelicious because I wanted a heavy yielding indica that would be suited well to a screen. I would call it a successful choice lol

Waiting is killing me though.... I bet it would have grown like mad if I hadn't fim'd it like I did. Seems like growth slowed ALOT after the FIM. Possibly FIM'd too early? This issue will be null and void here in a little while though, I am going to order a 250 HPS to solve that for flowering. My roomate just got his in today from HTG, which BTW is an AWESOME company! Shipped extremely quick, good customer service, and packaged VERY well.

Also going to divert just a wee bit from the organic style and grab some Advanced Nutrients "Big Bud" for flowering. I'm all about some big yields lol Hopefully my "Chadwick" batch flowers pretty quickly and I can smoke on that while I wait for the Bubblelicious harvest to cure for the right amount of time. My goal is a month curing, i'd settle for 3 weeks. I just want it to be the best it can be and taste legitamately like bubble gum

I agree, those HTG supply 250w are pretty good for what you pay for them. That's the kind I have, and they seem pretty solid. I'm an electrician, so I know junk when I see it. The nice thing is the ballast isn't connected to the hood, so you can keep it outside the room since it gets so hot. I'm not really an expert on HID lighting, but I was surprised how hot that ballast gets. The thing is, the 400w are the same price as the 250w. I bought mine off my friend brand new still in the box. He never used it because he wanted a bigger one. Not sure why he just didn't get a 400w then. It sucks so bad not being able to use it, argh! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to still to guerilla for now and live vicariously through you guys if ya don't mind, lol.

well thats good to know... an electician sais its good. =) and yeaa u kno wat i was thinkin the same thing about the prices for the 250 watter and the 400 watter.. and its makin me debate wether i should get the 400 watter instead.... idk.. i'll onlt be flowering 2 plants... =/ soo idk if 400 watts is necessary ya know?? and then im sure the 400 watter will come with alot more heat as well. and obviously cost more as well... well i still got a few more weeks b4 i buy it.. soo i have time to debate.. i jsut dont wanna get the 250 watter.. and then.. say my mom sais i can grow more plants... i dont wanna be like damn.... i shoulda go the 400 watter... =/ idk maybe i'll talk to her about it today.. and see wat she sais. lol

I had a 250 and then decided to upgrade to a 400 for more power. The major thing to be concerned with as you noted is heat. With the 250, I could just vent my cool tube outside my cabinet and into the room and the room/cab didn't heat up much at all. Tried doing that with the 400 and it was quickly over 100 degrees F. I ended up venting through the room wall to the outdoors and everything's cool again.

hey, i like your grow. bubblicious is one of the best strains around. i just finished a harvest of nirv's ak48 and bubblicious-bubblicious was heavier and by far more resinous. i was planning on moving and didn't start any more plants, but now that we renewed our lease i am doing a continuous grow on a monthly rotation-meaning i will take clones every 2 weeks and allow 2 weeks for rooting. i also do 12/12 from the begining-so no veg time. this along with topping keeps my canopy low. i would like to share my set-up with you.

grow medium: coco coir, perlite, and gravel
nutes: botanicare cns17 grow, bloom, and ripe

mother/clone room:

2x4x5 grow tent
125w cool cfl w/reflector
20w cool "tube" florecent
C.A.P. temp control
3 gal grow bag
4" inline duct fan

flower room:

2x4x5 grow tent
botanicare turbogarden ebb&flo
400w htgsupply hps
C.A.P. temp/humidity/CO2 controller
sentinel CO2 regulator
20lb CO2 tank
170 cfm inline fan-4"
4" carbon filter
3 gal grow bag

the set-up works very well and i can average 3oz per plant.. and that was when i used the 5" pots that came with my turbogarden-as i listed above, this time i am using 3gal grow bags. i am really excited to harvest a plant a month. im excited for you too and i hope to see lots of updates. i have had 5 harvests so if you need any advice, hit me up. later

Personally, I wish I had a 400w over the 250w. The increase in yeild, even with only 2 plants seems like it's worth it. But like you said, it's a matter of trying to keep it cool. When I was in tech school, they emphasized taking future expansion into consideration, especially with residential. Meaning if you are wiring a house for someone, don't just take into consideration their current needs, but plan ahead for what they might need in the future. So, as an electrician, I would recommend the 400w if you think you can keep it cool. Who knows, maybe mom will say you can grow more than 2, maybe you'll move out and want to grow more, maybe you'll decide you want to do a sativa and will need something with better penetration. HID lights are a pretty big investment (at least to me) so like you said you don't want to be kicking yourself a few months down the road.

As for the cost of running it, a 400w isn't really that much more than a 250w. In general, 400w of electricity isn't really that much power. The average toaster is about 1200w, but then again you aren't running a toaster for 18 hours a day.

I'm not sure how much electricity is where you live, but here it is about 10 cents per KWH. A 250w light uses 0.25 kilowatts of electricity per hour (1000 watts in a kilowatt). So at 10 cents an hour, it costs me 2.5 cents to run it for an hour times 18 hours on a day is 45 cents a day. It will drop to 30 cents a day when I switch to 12/12.

If you do the same calculation for a 400w it comes out to 4 cents an hour. 72 cents a day at 18/6 and 48 cents a day at 12/12. So lets say you veg for a month at 18/6 then flower for 2 months at 12/12, you're talking about $50 to run a 400w for the 3 months.

Yeah I had heavily considered a 400w but it's difficult to keep temps down in closet grows...I'm curious as to what will happen when I finally manage to get an exhaust fan hooked up in there. If I am satisfied with the results I may go ahead and get the 400w. How close to the tops of the plants do you have to hang a 400w? If it's not really close heat may not be an issue anyway.

In other news, anybody wanna tell me when it's a good time to start trimming underneath the screen? Also, I can use these trimmings for clones can't I?

I'll upload some new pics later

I would say at least 6" away from the cool tube and that's if you've got kick-ass exhaust whisking the heat away. If you've got a lower power fan or no cooltube, you will set it a bit further away. This is all with the understanding that you're venting the heat completely out of the house, not just into the larger room.

I usually trim underneath 2.5 weeks or so after switching to 12/12. I take really anything that I don't think will get up into the canopy in the couple weeks left of stretching. Some shoots I leave and trim again around end of week 4 of 12/12, taking anything that hasn't made it by then. I've only ever done cloning from vegging plants, but I've read of plenty of people who clone from flowering plants. Earlier is better obviously, not sure how deep into flower you can go.

So here we are, 74 days into this thing...

Found out the 3rd gen "Chadwick" was a boy, so I axed it... The Second Gen is now the only survivor, she's currently budding up under my roomates 250 HPS now :)

My screen is coming along nicely, I added a few more CFL's and the bubbles seemed to like that. Slowly, but I feel like within the next 2-3 weeks I will finally have the screen filled and be about ready to flip the switch to 12-12.

I have upgraded from the rudementary speaker box idea. I recently came into possession of a pretty beat up dresser. A few mods and some thought and I have turned it into a pretty nice potential grow cab.

Once I finish it up I am going to germ the freebie "Coletrain" and do a medium sized scrog grow in it and use my closet for a vertical monster grow next time. I have plenty of vertical space in my closet and not alot of width so I figure I can grow two MONSTER plants and dedicate alot of veg time to them while I do a smaller quicker scrog in the dresser in the meantime.

I will have a 250w or 400w by time I will be ready for the next closet grow. I am leaning to the 400w because I think I can beat the heat issues and use it to grow some badong trees. The dresser Scrog will be CFL style because they make little heat and seem like a great idea for a scrog which requires little light penetration because of the even canopy.

My roomates plants continue to thrive on beast mode. We are both anxiously awaiting the "Deathstar" to show sex. The bubblelicious is looking like a beauty already.

Lookin good. I wouldn't wait till the screen is full. You will still have a lot of growth for the first 3-4 weeks of flower, so take that into consideration. I'd recommend that you flower when 2/3rds full.

You're gonna do Cole Train next? Tried to germ one a month or so ago and it never popped for me. I actually just started to germ the other one today. Hopefully this one cracks.
