2nd Grow-Lowryder2

Learned many things from my first grow.

Main thing is...less water is good.
A decent to good light is right. tried cfls the first time...3 bulbs for a total of 37 watts, lol. that is enough for seedlings, but not for a decent veg. certainly not enough for flowering.

This time I'm using Lowryder2 seeds, gonna do about 8, grew/growing bagseed before/now.

I have a good light setup on order now, should be here next week.
400w HPS, reflector and ballast. using the same room as before, about 6x8ft. I also have 500w MV ballastless bulbs, 2 of them. not certain yet whether or not to add one or both, if any. they really, really get hot!

gonna shop for pots and soil tomorrow. I will grow organically. sure wish to add co2, but that will depend on availability.

I'll post some pics tomorrow also, not much to see now anyway.

ok, got 4 lowryder2's in soil, 3 more still germinating...and 2 Mazars in the germ dish also. Now that will be, hopefully, 10 new plants added to the 6 that are already in there. I'm gonna post a few pics, but there isn't really anything new to see, except 4 pots covered with saran wrap. that is until the new light arrives, maybe 3 more days, and all seeds are in soil and they break the surface...

I guess I'll post again when the new light is installed.:peace:

damn it! screwed up 4 seeds already and one didn't germinate, so already 5/20 lowryder2 seeds down the drain. the first batch of seeds, bagseed, I just threw into a small tuperware with a paper towel and water. I threw in about 20-25 of them and 18 germinated. I didn't cover it and didn't put it in a dark place, just into a semi-lit room. this time I tried to follow some directions on germination...don't seem to work for me. also, before, the germinated seeds were about 3-4cm long before I planted them. this time I planted at about 1cm and put them in soil a few cm below the surface...
I'll go back to my 'throw em in' style and wait until they're more mature before I put em in soil...back to day 1!

illl be watchin as well! =)
kool, kool.
a quick update on the lights. HPS is in...I'll post 2 pics. the grow room is being revamped as we...type?...
when finished, it will include, at minimum, 1 HPS 400w v/high red spectrum bulb, and 2 500w ballastless MV bulbs. I know they aren't very good for growing, but it's what I have. probably install those next week. and then post more pics.
thanks for having a peep, sorry there isn't much to look at now...

ok, looked in on the room when I woke up, it's about 36-38C and the humidity is only 20%. too hot, too dry. I don't think adding the other 500w bulb is a good idea. I do have a cool mist machine, but it has no cord. I can replace that no problem. no damage to the plants...just bagseed now anyway.
I stepped up the germination...just in case, lol. there are 3 mazar, only 6 lowryder2's, and 6 more bagseeds. gonna let them all grow to at least 3cm, one inch, before planting them. they are now in a clear tuperware container, covered with a opaque, yellow dish, but not sealed. they are on the grow table, but in the shade of a pot. so they get some light, warmth, and can still 'breath'.
a couple lowryder2's are over a cm long now. all seeds have germinated.
I've decided, I don't like to plant a seed or even a just germinated seed. I may try it again sometime in the future.
more tomorrow...

OK, here's a total update. first of all, let me say, I think, seeds bought from a seed bank are harder to germinate than bagseed! most of my seeds got caught up in that thin inner membrane and were being strangled!

Previous crop(still going):
5 bagseeds

New crop(integrated into old one):
8 Lowryder2's
3 Mazar's
and a few more bagseeds

Equipment:
1 HPS, 400w, w/ballast and hood(reflector)
1 MV(not very good, I know), 500w, ballastless, w/hood
1 oscillating fan
1 cool mist/heater machine
1 black light(the story on this is it was supposed to cut down on the smell
but then I discovered only a light that emits UVC will do that...this one only emits UVA, which is harmless. UVC causes melanoma and creates ozone-O3. however, I can't smell a thing outside the room and very, very little in it...!?!

Temp/Humidity: about 30C/45-50%
Now running 18/6, plan to do this for a week or two. then go to 12/12 for 7-8 weeks.

I should be able to harvest the Lowryder2's, Mazar's and the first crop of bagseed around mid January...if all goes well.

some pics...actually not as dismal as it may look. I may be over-watering again...so damn eager! let's see what happens in a few wks...

LR2's are color coded 'brown' and Mazar's are 'green'...uh, the tall, skinny, yellowish ones are the first crop.

one more thing...the cool mist is doing really good job keeping the humidity/temp in balance. down side is, I have to control it manually...no vacation this winter.

the seedlings just got their first real watering today. tallest Mazar-4cm, shortest Lowryder2-1cm, all within a day or so in age.

well, it was a rough beginning.

final plant count is 7 LR2's, 3 Mazar. I'm hoping they will all stay roughly the same size.

one Mazar is getting really tall, and I'm afraid to burn them by lowering the light, so, I covered it for a few hrs each day. we'll see how that works out.

I threw in a pic of one of my older plants...bleeding red...because these are all getting topped. I think its an excess of N.

They're all growing real fast now, so keep a look out for more pics soon.

remember, 'brown' is for LR2, and 'green' is for Mazar.
