GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A joint task force has arrested 27 people and seized 500 marijuana plants following an investigation stretching across several counties in West Michigan.
Wednesday, police from multiple agencies executed search warrants at 28 different locations and consent searches at three more locations. It resulted in the arrest of 27 people and the seizure of marijuana and cash from drug sales.

Investigators say The Medical Marijuana Team (MMT) had operations in Rothbury, Grand Rapids, Walker, Traverse City and a half dozen other locations in five counties, but primarily they worked out of Muskegon.

According to court documents, Shawn Taylor was the leader of the Medical Marijuana Team. During a year-long investigation, drug enforcement agents say more than two dozen defendents secured medical marijuana cards from so called "weed doctors." But the patients far exceeded the limits for production and posession outlined in the law for patients and care providers.
Instead of patients dealing with pain and suffering, court dcouments say the co-conspirators harvested the marijuna from their various grow locations and quickly sold it for $2,500 to $2,800 per pound. Investigators say the earned hundreds of thousands of dollars and bought houses, land, and other items to launder the money.
Detectives used secret surveillance, wire taps, and informants to collect evidence on the group. The defendants represent many West Michigan communities and all are charged with conspiracy to manufacture and deliver marijuana.

500 plants dived 27 people equals 18 plants a person.. if these people were license caregivers in Michigan they could grow 72 plants a person legally... hardy worth the effort on law enforcements behalf.. isn't Michigan broke has fuck... why are they still wasting tax payers money on shit like this when there a med state?

Those 27 people were not all growing. Some were investors in a grow, runners, flippers, and laundering money. Plus gotta pay the tax man, buying toys well get you in trouble.

It's all in the perspective folks and only this LEO/Court perspective pays their bills. Anyone find it odd that they pulled a federal warrant here and executed it with local LEO.

buying anything that holds value with any kind of ill gotten money is considered laundering. they kinda just tax that on the end usually for any major drug case. it sounds like they got themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars and by the sounds of it (Year long surveillance?!?!?) they were expecting alot more?

Considering your superior intellect and perspective, can you help me out? I medicate with 3-4 grams per day, which is one ounce per week. Most long-term MJ users I know have similar legitimate needs. I fear the threat of the State/LEO growing my own as I cannot design an annual grow/harvest/cure schedule that does not extremely exceed my 2.5 ounce and 12 plant limits at any given time. Can you help a brother out here :-?

Hey I use medical for my spine and while not beating your consumption, I am not far behind. I realize though at times I may be in the grey or even wrong side of the law. But I can assume many/most of us were completely illegal for a long while.
It sucks to be a criminal for a victemless crime, and this is at least a step in the right direction.
Thing is, even doing things in the grey/illegal, it isn't hard not to get caught. even if you are only an purchaser or a grower, its not fucking hard. Besides we've been doing this for years. One step at a time.

Besides buying shit with proceeds is asking for trouble. Too easy to draw attention. If you are bound to get hit with laundering, at least do it right, spare attention.

After reading tonightyou's posts the last week I think I may have had a change
in perspective. How dare these criminals provide a dangerous drug to people that
want this substance for an actual medical need or to just to improve their quality
of life. How dare they take money away from hard working, honest and peaceful
cartels and reinvest in their own state. They had a whole 500 plants between 27
people. When you figure they have 10 harvests a year at 20lbs a plant, I mean
that's like a billion dollars between 28 people. They must of had like a 100
"runners, flippers, and money launders" lol involved. I heard a private jet from
Switzerland used to fly in once week to pick up all the cash.

This is why we build prisons, to bury these scum underneath them. Thank goodness
we have the fine men and woman of the state police who risk their lives to protect
our children from these savages.

PS Is it my turn to pick up the gasoline for the cross burning this week, or are you getting it?

Jesus. I agree with the overall principles and beliefs being spouted, but the law is the law. I don't agree with it, and do what I can to help change it.
Just seems like we need to remember it doesn't matter what we think about the laws, but what a jury or judge will if we find ourselves in an unfortunate situation. We can't claim ignorance, or pretend we have a moral high ground, and people pulling off shit like this, with terrible media coverage doesn't help us.

End goal is for all the terrible past surrounding this plant to be a distant memory.

Eta its all good, I don't take this personally and I feel many of the same sentiments about these topics as many of you do. I simply express a different point of view.

Michigan criminal law (section 8 ) specifically states an uninterrupted supply and I would argue intentionally does not reference the 12 plant/2.5 oz limits of the MMMP administrative/Michigan civil law (section 4) because it is clearly not reasonable.

Any thoughts on why/how local LEO went to a federal criminal court to obtain these warrants? IMO It's a special kind of corruption that funds this machine and by no means is such a victim-less crime, willful/malicious Entrapment at best.
