250w Hps floodlight, can i grow with it?

Hi,

Iv been thinking about growing for some time now and i have just been taking a back seat and soaking up as much info as i can.

im just looking for some advice now really,

i want to grow some lowryder strains, maybe a mix of them, the main reason is my grow area will be a small wardrope so not much room for big tall plants. plus i think they would be easier for my first (proper) grow. i still have the plants from the last time still sitting on my windowsill not doing much except they started showing pistils.

anyway my question is can i use this light to grow?

250w High Pressure Sodium with high quality 10,000 hour lamp and optional dusk to dawn sensor


it comes with this bulb- 250w Sodium SON T Lamp E40 from Liteworks

its alot cheaper than trying to buy a proper grow 250w hps that i could see and im on a tight budget.

if not i will stick to my original plan and go with the 150w or 250w dual cfl's i found.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yea i cant see any reason why not, its the same bulb that comes with the grow light kits so yea mate.

Just remember that unit will get very hot though.

They are very cheap, might get a couple myself and try them out.

Gonna go back to that site and see if they sell my 600w hps bulbs, because i saw their 250w son-t-plus bulb is only 4.99!! its £15 in growshops!!

And why not clone from the female plants you have on your windowsill?

Instead of buying seeds for your first grow which could go wrong, at least with the clones you wouldnt be wasting money if it does?

not to bad an idea actually londoner. yeah i was worried about the heat which made me think of the 150w to. i will only ever be growing 2 plants at a time max and wont be going for a great big yeild or anything. more just a hobby with a little reward at the end. when i get a bigger place i will experiment more.

the bulbs are really cheap aint they? thats why i was curious whether they would work or not.

did you find a 600?

that light would be good for side lighting, it wont get to hot either will it?

do you think it could grow a ryder by itself? maybe some cfl's as a supllement? just my mate wants to have a go at growing but on a small scale.

No being only 70w they shouldnt get too hot.

Im thinking of one in each corner, id get away with it in the winter, but probably not for the summer grows.

Yea i would think the 70 or 150w would grow a single LR2 cross no problem, i grew a single LR2 a over a year ago under a single 125w eco-lite, 18-6 for 8wks and it gave me just under an ounce dry, was quite impressed with it!

yeh i think i read your journal on that one you did a good job and i hope mine turn out half as good as them, iv read just about every bit of information on ryder grows i could find on this site. nuthin better than sittin with a fat one lookin at some nice grows.

i think i'l prob go with a 150 first time round, i can always upgrade to a 250 later on with them being so cheap.

Thats it mate, start with the 150 and get used to using that, its better than getting the 250 and finding out it gives off too much heat for your room.

It must have been someone elses LR2 journal that you read, i wasnt a RIU member when i grew that plant.

it probably was :-) like i say iv read everyone i can find on here about lr's.

i found a few strains that have been crossed with lr and there interesting but unsure whether to trust the genes? i havent seen any other grows on here except lr, lr2, dlr and im sure there was another maybe ak and lr.

anyone grew any other lr breeds?

yup 150w it is and some seeds when i decide which ones.....

im stuck between the ny dlr and the ak dlr mix aaaaaagh!

iv seen and heard about the nyd so i think i will go with that one.

roll on payday so i can get ordering my stuff.

both those sites good to order from londoner?

As good as they get mate, the first one i go to their shop and pay cash so i dont know about their order service, the second one iv never heard a bad thing about only good reviews and im gonna be ordering from there myself soon.

Yea its not the easiest site to navigate around, but its much better for uk based advice.

And theres not so many idiots on there.

got a small cupboard, and am thinking of the HPS floodlight, although where did you find a 150watt? i can only find 70 and 250 on the scldirect website.

Also londoner, wheres the shop you bought your seeds? nice looking plant
