25-30 year old seeds - Breeding

Ive been given my mothers 25+ year old seed stock.

They have been stored in film canisters for all this time, about 5 of them.

Ive been told that they are: Hawaiian, Columbian and Afghani seeds, from many different bags. Some of the seeds still look Viable, and soon I will be testing if any germinate.

So iam assuming there will be 3 landrace varieties (not hybrid)

Iam guessing the Columbian is Sativa, Afghani is Indica, but iam not sure about the Hawaiian.

She told me that it had a very skunky smell. It came from #10 cans that were smuggled into the states. My Aunt and her Friends have also talked about this weed and from what iam told it was excellent.

Sadly I was informed that all the Acapulco Gold seeds went "out the window".

I have a question about breeding. What would be the best way to Preserve the Genetics of these seeds ?

Basically should I germ a few and do Open Pollination with a number of plants...

or

Should I grow a number out and Cross the 2 best ?

Dude,

I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out. Keep us updated as to if they germ. Also even if they germ they may no longer be fertle. Good Luck.

25+ years?! Christ on a cracker, that's ridiculous. If this works out, everyone who's like "seeds go bad after 3 years" shall be putting their feet in their mouths.

Amazing !

Today one of my old seeds Germinated !!!

Ive been testing 30 or so seeds at a time and all of them have failed until now.

A couple days ago I took some out of one of the jars for a test and put them in paper towel in a baggie, I also used some Rooting Powder and Hydrogen Peroxide with the water to wet them.

The sole germinated seed has been placed in a pot to see if it will come up.

And ive taken the rest of the seeds from the same jar to see if I can get any others to germinate for breeding. About 60 testing now...

Holy Shit!!! 9 months to pop?
No, but over that period I have tried a few hundred of these old seeds.

I noticed the start of a root tip on the second day of this batch.

I have refrained from trying them all at once because its raises the probability of failure, If mold gets in it can kill them.

you might find it will help if you scuff the seeds or use a sterile exacto to gently scrape along the seed seam..Will make ita lil easier for less vigorous seeds to shed their shells.
A drop of rhizo would poss help too.

I have a strain that came from nam back in the 70s . Guy had them stored in a freezer and gave me them to try and grow . Monkey Paw . It took a while for them to germ. After I got my plants to sex , I dusted a couple buds with pollen I took from my male to keep the strain alive ( just in case ) . I have harvested 4 complete grows so far and I have to say . Its got to be some of the best weed I've smoked in my 35 years of burning . I take 8 clones each cycle so I can keep my seeds for later . Never know when you may have to shut down.

Sweet, Ive heard of monkey paw before. I think its a true breeding sativa, an asian landrace. Good to hear others are keeping the genetics alive :weed:

This is crazy insane :hump: WOW!! you may have some psycodelic 70's revolution weed on your hands. I totally beileve that there are still some viable seeds in that batch. Look at the shrimp that come alive every 70 years when the desert floor gets flooded. Dude just dont feck it up, you could have something very sought out. I hope your not a n00b to growing (no offense please).

I would grow them and not only clone but do a bit of seed making with just that strain to keep it going.

WOW!! Subscribed :hump:

I'm guessing the name monkey paw (even though I remember it) was the name americans gave it for whatever reason. Probably because it's eerie, mystical, and adds a hint of danger..."the curse of the monkey's paw" a famous, and famously parodied story. I still want it though....Make them seeds~them seeds make you rich~it's the curse of the Monkey Paw!!!!!!

Yea I want to preserve these genetics by making seed with this strain.

Ive made seeds before, and I do have a several successful grows under my belt.

These will be grown Outdoor Organic this season.

If I cant get a Male and a Female to breed together, I will cross it with my Kush to make a hybrid.

I had NO LUCK with a whole bunch of 7-8 year old seeds then ordered some. They opened right up in 24 hours!

I feel your pain serious. I sucks the old seeds will not really work out for you.

GOOD LUCK!!
