had my clones under the 400w light for the past 5 days on 24 hour schedule. just got a
1000w and need to cut down on electricity usage. is it okay to switch to 18/6 if I've been on
24 for the past 5 days?

Different stokes for different folks. 24/7 rocks for my purple kush. They can rest during flower. And dropping to 18 hours is fine. And I might add plenty of roots in this 15 gl pot! 6 weeks veg time under a 600watt running 24/7.

Everyone says the sleep period is when you get most root growth. This lady is in a 15 gl pot and the roots are already peeking out the bottom. She is now over 5ft tall and almost as wide. How did no sleep affect her in a negative way?

Their is a light saturation point in a plants life daily.
And Night time benefits root growth.
I didn't say 24hours wouldn't grow a plant.
Its just SO UNNECESSARY.
No big deal. What ever floats your boat.

Just a waste.

I guess half the folks on here will go either way on this issue. I have been an outdoor grower for over 30 years now. Always run my babies in 1 gl pots under 24/7 before putting them outdoors. Usually 3-4 weeks veg time. I have tried 18/6 and then putting them out. The rootball on the 24/7 plants is always a third larger then 18/6. Add two more weeks veg and you get monsters!

Damn..
Now Im stuck.. But I still know plants have saturation points when it comes to collecting lumens for photosynthesis.

Well there we agree! No Trolling here. I don't need to save a couple bucks on my electric bill. I want my plants to be as big with established rootballs as I can get in the shortest amount of time. Because this method actually saves me money on my light bill. I don't have to run my light for an extra 2 weeks or give extra veg nutes, water,etc...

Yeah 24-7 grows faster but can get expensive. MJ plants DONT "need" sleep during veg! Try growing a plant under 24hr light and grow another under 18-6 ...... SHOCKER!!!... the one with 24hrs of light grows faster!!

i read a soft secrets article where george cervantes said 24/7 during veg will grow bigger plants. and personally i always run veg at 24/7. if the plant absolutely need dark time during veg then would a 24/7 plant grow at all? but again each to their own

Jorge Cervantes says here in the grow bible that he used to be a 18/6 guy, but that in recent years he's tried it himself and that he now admits 24/0 is better. Food for thought.
