im not too sure on that. some strains seem to prefer 18/6. it really depends on the plants.. but you should have some darkness always.. seems like they grow in the dark. faster than when the light is on.. 20/4 to start i like to move it down to 18/6 when I see white hairs..kind of makes sense in line with nature.. the whole autoflower trait comes from hemp that is grown very very far north.. I happen to live in this kind of area.. and when you plant them in may the light is about 19/5 and goes up to 22/2 in june and by mid to late august (when you harvest an auto in the far north ) its about 16/8...

I try to follow nature a bit..but yes at least 4 hours dark..plants need sleep too..

Yeah makes sense I'll fit in 4 hours somewere if its that important. So after about a month switch it to 16/8 for flowering?

you could keep it at 20/4 the whole way through if it makes it easier.. it seems like theres only a few strains that do better at 18/6 . some even get slightly hindered..i would put it on 18/6 on the last week of flower (7 to 8 weeks after you see hairs)

Ive had good luck on 24/0 it really depends what kind of auto your running. I dont run autos but many landrace equatorial sativas go by age. If maturity is the factor the most light is optimal. If a dark period slight is required, it will prolong flowering and mess up bud structure. Yiu wantvthe most light possible without inhibiting flower..plants do not need a dark period.

Yea, sounds good.. They need a really good start. 16/8 or 18/6 or 20/4 would all work fine.. I'd probably go 20/4 in flower.. make sure to get them in 3-5 gallon pots and don't transplant them. You should LST the main as soon as you are able to tie it down. usually around the 3rd node or so.

I already planted in a solo cup. A transfer wouldnt hurt it anymore than a non-auto would it?

Yes, transplant into big pot ASAP. Autos are different in that way. The first three weeks are so critical. It's a sprint to get that lady as large as possible before flower begins.. I have read some posts that suggest that autos stop growing or begin to flower when the tap root hits the bottom of the container. I'm not sure if that's true, but transplanting them is not the best idea.

Neva had a problem on 24/7 with auto s any of them...... Often ran light for a month..... You can also turn off when you want for as long as you want...... I've turned them off for 12 hrs every few days....... 6 hrs every few days... Never made any difference for me...... I hope this helps

is just plain ignorance on your part ...all newbs do it these days..
but in reality it proves grower ignorance on one of the most basic principles of life,

consider keeping a fish, mouse cat even a dog ...so you can in time ..learn to care?

I'm thinking about planting my seeds directly into 5 gallon smart pots then keeping them under 600W at night and sun during the day. Hopefully it comes out well.

I've always run 24/0 on auto's.A friend and I did side by side of afghan kush Ryder he ran 20/4 myself 24/0 I averaged over 3/4 of an ounce more per plant. The smoke was identical ,we used exactly the same pots, dirt and nutrient feeding schedules.Needless to say he is a 24/0 convert.

Interesting subject. I have read a lot on both ways. Since I haven't grown autos yet I can't comment. I'm shooting with 24/0 for at least a month and then maybe 20/4 I dunno. Gotta watch em and see...

I'm not sure I follow you on this. I mean, I'm all for caring about animals and stuff, but what does that have to do with 24/0 for Autoflowers?
