Did you buy your smart pots? After buying all the soil and seeds I'm really low on money and I may try and make some out of that black weed prevention fabric that goes under bark and shit. Thoughts?

Here is a Quote about homemade pots from Tom Hill:

Some of these have 1/4" "hardware cloth" laid down first to keep critters from burrowing up into them, some don't. Some have this black breathable "ground cover" covering the entire bottom, some are left mostly open on the bottom - it all works. I have also used heavier "shade cloth" in the past instead of the ground cover, the ground cover holds up a little better/lasts longer. I use a heavy gauge "field fencing" for the containers and I think it comes in rolls that are 32" high, then I fold them to aprox 2' high. Cut to 20', + a little overlap at the connection = 6' containers.

A definite improvement is to also then wrap these things in burlap, so you don't have heat culling your roots before they reach the edges of the containers. -T

Thanks man! Thats exactly what I was thinking of doing except a lot more definite haha. I bought Red Dragon from Barneys, Super Lemon Haze from Greenhouse Seeds and Dolce Vita from Dutch Passion that I plan on putting into 20-25 gallon containers that i make out of this fabric. With not such a huge container, what time of year do you think I should put them out so they're not terribly rootbound by flowering? I'm so excited for my seeds to come in the mail and get started!

Updated pics. Potted 20 gallon force flower pots today. Will water in tomorrow. Two different phenos of Qrazy train to go With Two Super Silver Haze and two Kushes: Fire OG and SFV OG. Plan to force flower June 1st. The kushes are a little droopy they both tend to exaggerate this when they are ready for sleep. Their sleep schedule is off a bit, normally they would be in the dark now.

so how many plants will you end up putting in the big 225? and how do you force flower outdoors?
Both of the 225 gallon pots will get 1 plant each. One is already transplanted and the other is waiting for the soil to cool down. To prevent early flowering im using cfls that kick on @6:30 and stay on til midnight. To force flower early outdoors you need to cover your plants daily. Here is a Subcool video that demonstrates pulling tarp:

You may want to remove the tarp sooner than midnight to prevent mildew from moister build up, I am removing mine at 9 pm for now

Good luck with your project, I am hoping to have some smoke by June 25

Midnight is when supplemental lighting kicks off for both large containers and 20 gallon pots (They stay in the open air). And will stay on til mid june, which has nothing to do with pulling tarp.

When i do pull tarp on the 20 gals (june 1st) it will be from 6pm-10pm. To deal with high humidity I will either be purchasing a breathable black out fabric, or i will use intake fans, a dehu, and passive exhaust if blackout material is plastic.

Plants look great...they seem to love their new homes. I'm thinking they're gonna get huge now.

so the newly transplanted 20 gals are showing quite a bit of shock after being watered in. they came out of a perfect environment to some really cold nights and a different light schedule. it seems the more foliage on a plant the more shock after transplant. i am not worried they should snap out of it soon. i am ordering some mycostop in case there are some soil borne pathogens present in this recycled soil. purple diesel in large container appears to be inching along.

so it turns out the 20 gal ladies were droopy from lack of water! not soil pathogens or hot soil or over watering. the soil surrounding the root ball was moist, however the ball itself was dry. lol, common sense evades me sometimes. i watered them and they perked right up. i watered the large container purple diesel and topped it both for the first time. A significant amount was removed, approximately 6" and there was an aggressive spurt of growth after watering as well. Watering large containers can be tricky, I'm thinking of purchasing a soil moisture meter. Today's activities also included transplanting querkle dom. qrazy train into other large container! May 3rd and everything is in the ground!
