LOL! I just showed my wife the picture of the whole setup and now she wants me to build one :wall:
Last time we setup a hoop style “garage” in our yard, it was a week before we got hurricane strength winds, and it got destroyed....maybe next year

Looking good, Sounds like bugs are a little worse for everyone this year... Me included, Whats everyone using for any (organic pesticides and/or IPM solutions?

Will try to throw up some update pics today.
I've trying Fox Farms "Don't Bug Me" but haven't found it super effective. Plus the FS x FC is flowering now so I don't really want to spray anything on it.

lol, she says that now ... my wife was ready to kill me it took so long to build (and rebuild) ... but now I think she's come around to the idea .. she sits out there every night when it cools off drinking wine and smoking bones

Finally got mine in the ground! I have been gardening fruits and veggies for years, but these definitely required a lot more prep work than i'm used to what with digging huge holes in the ground and amending the soil etc; quite the workout and I'm no slob! I will be trellising green beans, wax beans, and cucumbers up the chain-link, and am thinking about growing some of my watermelons and honeydew in the empty spaces between the plants-not sure yet. Also growing some corn inside fence as well. Fence enclosure is 20'x30'. End of August i'll add a hoop covering and add fans.
2x Seedsman Skunk #1 Fem
3x Seedsman White Widow Fem
2x DinaFem O.G. Kush Fem See pic of one plants leaves (?mutation?) same growth medium same nutes as rest.
1x K.C. Brains TNR Fem(supposed to be a monster)
4x SFV OG from bag seed that got absolutely insane reviews.

Pic #1 is of enclosure 20' x 30'
Pic #2 is of strange leaf growth on one of my DinaFem OG Kush Fe
Pic #3 is of my native soil prior to amending: dark is top soil and light is what im guessing is silt? about 1ft down My property is on an old river bank. Seems pretty fertile, but I amended just in case. MJ_Garden_4 - Copy.jpgMJ_GARDEN_5 - Copy.jpgMJ_GARDEN_6 - Copy.jpg

Interesting, your kush with the crinkled leaves looks just like my Orange Blossom Special. Mine started growing leaves like that after maybe the second node. Same care and conditions as all the others--wonder if it's some sort of genetic trait?

It could be from mites

Looking good, I find the same color and consistency soil when I dig in my area south shore... I find it to be heavy in clay though, they used to make bricks a few towns over so Im not surprised. But looks good, I've been dealing with more pests than most years, It could be mites like TreeFarmerCharlie says. Also, are you planning to do any sort of cover crop or mulching? That will help protect the humus layer, as well as help with water retention once it gets real hot in a few weeks. I like the set up.. Do your hoops cover from one fence to the other or do they sit inside the enclosure? Great work, keep it up, would love to see more. Cheers.

I had one that did the same thing with the crinkled leaves and I thought mites as well. Grew out another one and same thing. Both were outdoors and no other plants except that strain was affected.

Then I popped another bean and it was fine while in the tent...beautiful...then once I put it in sunlight it did it again. So I tested the theory and stuck it back under lights and it grew out normal.

I talked to dr.who and a few others that are really smart...they agreed it has to be that the strains cant take the full sunlight. Yours could be the same or yes it could be mites.

I thought mines as well, but I don’t see anything under magnification, and the rest of the plants seem fine. I will keep a close eye on it though.

Yes I plan to spread some mulch on top for sure!

I haven’t quite figured out the specifics of the hoop design re: inside or outside of fence; I guess I’ll have to see how tall they get ? but I do have rebar lying around which I plan to anchor the pvc with on each side.

Thanks for the warm welcome and well wishes

Hmm, anyone using compost or hay in their gardens as a mulch or soil amendment?

Broad Leaf herbicides are currently being pushed on hay farmers to kill off any non grasses that grow. Unfortunately, these herbicides are very potent and very stable. They will survive intact after being eaten by livestock and can harm plants in the ppm range.

LOTS of vegetable gardeners are being ruined by this. Even if you know a farmer and know they don't use it, if they feed hay to their animals, their manure can still harbor it and if you use that in compost, you will screw your plants up. It is showing up in a lot of commercial manures - even organic manures. It's also showing up in compost at garden centers and community green dumps.

It first causes leaves to twist and wrinkle, and will eventually kill your plants. The government farm extensions are actively promoting this. One brand is grazeon herbicide from dow. How a persistent herbicide that can completely topple a rec gardening industry can be allowed to be not only sold, but encouraged, is a crime of policy, no doubt greased by graft.

Be careful what compost you use. Just saying.

I had great success last year simply using my bagged grass clippings as mulch/compost for my vegetables. Though I think I’ll stick with bark mulch for my MJ.

this blows ... i did use some outside cow manure when setting up the beds last year ... i try to grow the compost right in place and shave it down every 10 days or so ... the hummus layer on these beds is really nice this year

The autos are starting to flower nicely. Hopefully these will be done by mid July so I can plant my photo plants as a second round
very nice ... perfect time of year to finish auto's with the long days now ... once you throw the photos in they'll take off and prob be stretching pretty quickly from there

Hey fellow Massholes,
I need your help please point me in the right direction. I need a strain or two that will do well outdoors pronto This will be my first year growing outdoors an I’m running very late. I have soil cooked an plenty of land. I’m looking for clones or teens. Do I need a medical card to buy these locally?
thanks in advance

Did you do any research at all?

I have a lot of studying to do which is why I’m starting out with just a handful of plants. I have built a structure to keep them safe from wind and rain. May try a cpl in ground and a cpl in fabric pots. Getting the area fenced in. Working on pest control. Hoping to learn most hands on. I grow indoors so I know what to look for in my plants. I’m aware it’s a new ball game out doors. Just trying to get it started an get my feet wet. I have genetics, just nothing I’m confident would do well outdoors.

You don't have anything on hand that'll finish in under 9wks? Its not the best way to gauge what will do well outside but its a start.
Check out the outdoor grow section for your area. There's plenty of journals and threads from New England growers that'll get you pointed in the right direction.
