Other than an cheap MH/HPS kit I don't know how you could fill a 3x4 for $200 bucks. And the mh/hps is gonna make a ton of heat to deal with.

You'd need several of those "450" vipars for a space that size and COBs while being utterly badass aren't cheap.

This is all a jumping off point first time. I just want enough return to justify the investment. Quality is #1 for me as it is strictly personal use

COBs are more efficient for a slightly higher start up prices. If you go for any of the economy line LED boards, the ViparSpectra comes with the best options and the best quality for the money. The V450 is probably the best value. I can flower two 3-4 foot plants with it.

The 300w was my initial choice what's you opinion on that plus the 400w worth of cfls I have? I figured the cfls would help with seeding and pushing veg. I know they cann be daisy chained together. The 450w for an extra 50 looks badass. What kind of yeild do you get?

if you want budget, and you want it this week, go buy 2 10 packs of A19 bulbs and pop the diffusers off. you'll have 300W of LEDs for $100-$150. you already have 4 sockets for CFLs you can buy these for the rest and lay them up on powerstrips:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-White-Outlet-to-Socket-Light-Plug-R52-00061-00W/100170446

you want the 100W replacement bulbs, 1500-1600 lumens each, in either 5000k or 2700k depending on what youre doing with them. homedepot, costco, or walmart.

Why not just buy a 400 watt hid setup off ebay. For under $140 shipped you can get a digital switchable ballast with both an MH and HPSA bulb and a reflector.Just check ebay out .Most have a 1 to 3 year warranty and will cover your area and your budget
like this which total is just $108 delivered http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apollo-Horticulture-400-Watt-MH-HPS-Grow-Light-System-Set-Kit-for-Plant-Growing-/191055700117?var=&hash=item2c7bcea095:m:mljFqisr912xqGezKkF77Mg
Because I prefer LED to HID. Lower energy cost so it's greener, same quality, capable of huge yields if you veg long enough. More PAR watts and micromols of light, less heat and wasted energy.

What he chooses, though, is his preference.

Do not use CFLs. That would be downgrading. Unless you are RM3.

I will probably have 3 ounces per plant with this harvest and that was with a single 450 and a 3 week veg, seedling stage included.

fuck all the bullshit you got 200 to spend on a light go with a mars hydro reflector panel, trust me I've grown a qp of grand daddy purple every 2 months for like at least the last 2 years

The Galaxy Hydro 300 is not a true 300 watt light. Many think that it is, but it isn't...so be careful. It actually only produces the equivalent of a 150 watt HPS light. If you're only growing one or two plants, get the LED. It uses a lot less power than the T5's.

If your power bill is not a concern, get an electronic ballast 600 watt HPS/MH setup. You can get one on Amazon for 135 dollars. It can run at 300, 450 or 600 watts. You can grow some serious plants with that amount of light.

Cheaper Chinese LED versus HPS lights? I prefer HPS. the LEDs are good if they are top of the line or DIY COB LEDs.
Though there are quite a few guys here using cheaper LEDs in grow tents doing very well.
I concur... I myself am using a cheap chinese LED, Global Star 300w, and it's working out well for me.. But I also have a little less space (I assume, vertically... I only had 4 feet total, otherwise my space is also about ~3x4... on the smaller side of that, his sounds slightly bigger) and while it is working well, I cannot comment on it's reliability, as it is only a couple of months old.

I also keep hearing (and seeing) better results in terms of yields with HPS a this point, excepting maybe the more expensive LEDs.

So if you have the vertical space, and don't mind the added cooling cost, you should see proportionally/exponentially better results with HPS.

Diy 4 Vero 29's driven hard. Series 1 driver. $35 x 4 for CPU coolers and fans. Driver $60 give or take. Small 12 volt supply $5. Frame aluminum from Lowe's. $15. Misc. Nuts, screws etc. $20. Or citizen cobs. Some guys are building here using them.

I am going to say build a DIY COB light.

You would be surprised what you can build for around $200.

I can tell you how to build a fixture that puts out 14,000 lumens using 8 100 watt compact florescent bulbs for 90 bucks.

(By comparison, the Galaxy Hydro 300 puts out 7,000.)
