wats up rollitup community.
i'm ready to grow.
its my first time. it took forever to get my box set up. but here's the plan:

1 og kush feminized, 1 og cheese feminized, 1 royal cheese feminized, and 1 kerala x skunk#1.
soil grown. organic feeds - going with the gen. organics go starter box, but i got lucky with some nectar for the gods nutes. be waiting on that now.
i have 2 125w cfl's going however 1 bulb was cracked on arrival so i return shipped it and waiting on the replacement now.
the grow box: i don't know the dimensions, but i bought a small cabinet and will be using that. it has a separate chamber that i plan to start new seeds with.

just planted the seeds today. just finished...almost finished the box today too.

stop by and help me out. i've read alot of diaries here and it'd b great if u guys (and ladies) show me the way.

k..here are some pics of day 1. (when is day one? when i plant or when seedlings appear?)

btw, my bulbs are hydrofarm 125w cfl 2700k. but it says 'full spectrum' and also says 2700k. do you recommend getting a 6500k bulb?

CFL are terrible, but good luck anyway. You will never grow the biggest, sweetest, etc. using crap CFL.

CFLs are not crap. They are what I started with and continue to use until money/skill permits me to upgrade.

There cheap, readily available, perfect for a new grower to get there feet wet and learn the ropes, not to mention a tailored for small grow spaces such as yours.

With that out of the way, here are my thoughts.

Try and socket up your cabinet for 4 of those high watt cfls. Stagger the sockets (Left and right side of case) Use 2 "6500k" for veg and replace those with 4 of your "2700k" for flowering, when money permits..... Obviously you can use whichever ones you want. This will give you plenty of light for veg and a good amount of light for flower.

Heat will probably be an issue so you'll want to find a pc case fan or 2 or similar fan to exhaust your box.

Order a roll of mylar when money permits and use it to line your box over the paper.

Do some research on LSTing. Try using a appropriate container size container thats plastic so you can drill holes all along the top so you can LST with your preference of tie down material (I use a high gauge wire).

If at all possible, consider making a false deck for you plants to sit up (Get a square of 1/2 plywood) to sit your plants on so you can raise the height of your plants by blocking out underneath, having your hopefully flat canopy of buds around 2" - 4" from your CFLs is critical.

Thats it for now, good luck sir!

There's nothing wrong with cfl you want above 5,000k for veg and 2700k for flowering. You could pull off 1ounce with 150watts.

I have 11 plants under 394 Watts of cfls and iam doing good. So if you have not used them before don't comment. Good luck bro. A little more work but can turn out good.

If you use cfls right there good I've seen nice plants. I think people read that there junk and don't try them. Try them and use the right way then talk shit. You will be fine bro. Cflgrowlights has a video on YouTube you should watch that. I built same light set up. They Use equivalent watts which is another subject. Check it out cheap to build.

welcome to RIU hightide

CFL's have advantages in some applications, it all depends on your personal circumstances/situation

There will always be those who will shoot their mouth off that they have bigger & better plants...blablabla....... just make the best of what you have to work with......good luck!

Thanks galildoughty. I'm definately interested in trying out the LST method too and sounds simple enough.

And heat!...and odor control. I have 2 computer fans being shipped my way now. I"m going to wire those to plug into the wall. Now the only thing is...where do you think is the best place to drill the vent holes to attach the fans? I figure one exhaust should be on the top where the bulbs are. Which leads me to...I'm also making my own carbon filter using a screen and activated carbon pre-filters. Do you think the computer fan is enough to move enough air?

Yea, my grow box still needs alot of work. I was really in a rush to start...just too excited i guess. i'll take more photos as work gets done on this.

nothing to report today. just waiting on them seedlings to appear

thanks again for all the info and support. i will smoke one spliffy for u guys

Indoor, gotcha. I don't really care about the negativity. they not smokin my kind :)
but yea i'm still going the cfl way.

a question about the mylar issue.
would aluminum foil work too? the shiny side is pretty reflective...i read about how they can cause burn spots, but i don't think you can make foil concave enough to focus light in a way that would burn the plants. i just know mylar is really reflective. aluminum foil not as much..
i currently taped up photo paper (it has reflective qualities) btw.

thanks again for stoppin by

Sounds good so far.I run 2 boxes 2x4,with cfl only, computer fans for removing heat and air. Both of my boxes are flower.I use 2700k bulbs, good or bad thats what I use.I also have my clones and mothers under cfl.
This isnt my first time at using flourescents,I was using floros back in the mid 80's for growing indoors,at 1 time back then I had 225 plants in all different stages under floros, running a SOG grow. That was awesome back then, and I didnt know shit about growing(I still dont, the more I learn the more I dont know). But now I have 80 girls under floros in different stages of flower.I harvest 1 tray a week.I am growing dwc,all in separate tubs.I can flower up to 10 plants at a time per tray.I am now doing a compact SOG.
I guess what Im saying is dont let the negativity sway you from cfls.

So for I think you are doing ok,every space is different till you learn it.Keep the air moving, and you should be good to go.

I know cfls work.I also used to grow with a 1000 watt hps in a 4x4 doing SOG,was great,I grew some really nice plants indoors. So Ive been down both paths and they are different but both get the job done.I grow for personal now thats 1 of many reasons why I went cfl.

SO I wish you luck and any questions please ask.dont mind the nay sayers :)

Mylar is the best. It will do you better over your waxed, photo paper and certianly tin foil. However, i'd leave the paper you have up over the tin foil, tin foil will do you more harm then good.
