1st time main-lining journal......

well im going to try main-lining for the first the time and want as much help as possible to achieve the best results i can.

i will be growing in a 4x4 tent with dimable ballast and 6" cooltube with 400mh for veg and 600hps for flower..
i have a 6" rvk 150 extraction and tt100 4" intake...

heres a pic of the seedlings i planted a week ago with out germanating 5 out of 6 have broken the soil under 250w blue cfl....

and also sum of my set up...

everyone more then welcome to help me out or learn or just see the outcome...

First few questions to get your brain thinking.

1. How are you going to fix the LST style mainlining down?

2. What branch manifold are you planning to create?

3. How many mainline plants are you going to run under your 600w?

4. Are you going to build a tomatoe cage style brace or use something else?

heres your answers lad

1. i will be tieing the first 2 branches to the pot just with soft wire tie's
2. i plan on 8 tops a plant
3. i was going to do 6 in there in 11ltr pots but doing a bit research and peoples opinions 4 might be better with 8 tops each but only 5 my 6 seeds have popped so might try get the 5 in
and finally number 4. yes i have some tomato rings to go in the pots aswell to sort where i want the heads

Very similar to my ideas.


Don't forget though that the mainline training gives a less bushy plant so IMO 6 should fit quite well.

But ultimately its up to you.

i tho 6 would go in like but on the mainlining thread people said 4 would be better, a mate of mine has 6 in his tent same size tent light fans and that and in 18ltrs with no training or cutting out off

Its up to you but I'm doing 4 under my 400w.

If I was a 600w user again I would be running 6 in that size area.


Does your mate have a fair bit of fluffy stuff underneath his canopy?

Without training and pruning for best light penetration he must have some fluffy stuff.

That's why my plants never exceed 2.5ft under my 400w.


Not only that but its a pain in the arse to trim 60 little stems with about 2g on each.

Fuck that! Butter or ISO hash for them bits. Lol.

just had a quick read through, im currently mainlining in dwc. you can find picks in my sig or in the mainling thread if they help. also budologist420 has some amazing mainlines (hes on here but his youtube vids are the bollox!)

i see above you commented on them not being very bushy, i have to disagree the whole reason this technique is used is to keep plants squat and wide thats why he started using the technique, also the theory nugbucket gave about all branches receiving equal nutes etc is another "benefit".

my biggest suggestion to you is to wait untill you have a very well established plant (about 10inch) if you chop to early it takes ages for plants to recover and get back on track (shandyslaters diary). as long as you pick to symmetrical nodes it will work, it don't have to be the 2,3,4 or 5th set. (they dont even need to be symmetrical but its easier)...

personally i would let them grow for a while then top the tops, and remove 1 lower set of branches.....then after the 2nd cut, remove another etc this will help to less confuse the plant (if youve ever lollipopped you know you can see the effect of the floral hormones going to the top shoots)

i was going for 32 tops but stopped at 16, there apparently is no benefit past 8, i can see this as 8 would keep plants smaller (what the technique is used for) but i like larger plants, so may have to knock this technique on the head.

imho it defo takes some practice to get the flip at the right time so there is no popcorn bud, and it helps if you know how your strain will perform as nugbuckets said it aint for all strains. im doing it with DNA Lemon skunk which has heavy side branching, shandy slater is doing it with blue rhino a mainly single cola strain...we shall see!

p.s it does look sexy as fuck in flower but seems very unnatural!!

but practice makes perfect so i will be after your help lemon king and wont be cutting out off till we come to a mutual decision on my thread haha maybe next weekend i will put them under the 400mh

Mainlining is awesome and has a very appealing look to the grower. (Thanks go to nugbuckets for opening eyes on a wider lever). It doesn't seem unnatural. It's like growing grapes at a vineyard, it's odd but beautiful to see what you can do.

i cant wait to try it like lads.... yous will be able to watch mine from end to finish and have your says good or bad

well 9 days old from straight in soil no germ, see roots at the bottoms already so will be potting into single pots in the next few days then under the 400mh in tent weekend...

3 out of 4 of mine have popped.

Just waiting on 1. Not too bad considering they only went into the coco on Tuesday.

Again same as yourself. No pre soaking, no paper towel, just straight into wet coco.

iv just pulled my widow out and its like its rotted the root just soft like jelly, maybe plant the other today or another strain
