Make a few extra bucks while growing my own dank? :leaf: (selling to dispensaries, nothing illegal here.) Sure why not… that's the short story of how I got started.

Any questions/constructive criticism is welcomed. I'm here to learn as well as share information that can help.
:weed:

I'm going to update the first post with new updates as I update my journal here

Before getting starting I had been doing research, as well as have a close friend that is very familiar with all of this. I googled, found this forum as you can see, etc… I remember watching and taking notes from this video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-259262713655286519. Also watched the High Times ones on youtube, magazines… you know just getting the basic lay of the land beginning to end and the in-betweens . Tons research& still learning. :eyesmoke:

Initially I was just going to re-do our unused 3rd bedroom, more I looked into it, more I went for the tent that way I don't have much (if any at all really…) repair work to do when we will need that room again in the future. Also learning some things about circuit breakers and how many amps are available on each breaker… etc

So here is what I picked up to get my started in our empty room:
 • 4x4 Sun Hut tent
 • 6" EcoPlus Classic Inline Fans (x2) + 1 Speedster to control intake speed
 • 6"x24" Phresh Filter
 • LUMATEK 400/250W DUAL VOLTAGE DIMMABLE
 • Eye Hortilux HPS 400W
 • Magnum XXXL 6" Air-Cooled Reflector
 • 1 Pack Grow Yo-Yo
 • Titan Controls Apollo 6

Purchased White Rhino seeds from my local medical marijuana dispensary. It was $50 for this feminized 5pack (which I actually got 6 seeds) and they said keep the package because if one isn't a female, they'll take care of that and replace… I'm hoping that they are all in fact female!

Date 08/09/11
Started germination …

Date 08/11/11
Planted seedlings into 2.72L pots and placed under T5 lamp… since it's my first growing from seeds and I don't really have anything yet that would accommodate an appropriate way to hang a light haha… I just used this desk that I've been trying to get rid of as I start off and as you can see by the progression in the pictures I finally got a decent enough setup for now in regards to the pre/veg stage

Date 08/16/11
A discussion with my close friend advised that these pots were too big to start with and recommended just buying some dixie cups cut holes and plant in there // Xfered seedlings from 2.72L pots into dixie cups

Finally got something a little better to organize my pre-veg stage with as well as a rack for storing nutes, etc…

Date 08/30/11
Xfered seedlings back into 2.72L pots as I felt they were getting to big for the cups…

Date 09/02/11
3 Days after the xfer, IMHO they seem to be doing very well IMHO. You can see #1 in the back row, middle… I think that one is growing the fastest of all of them (some more pics below)

Here is a time lapse I put together…unfortunately not as good as I wanted as I ran into the tripod left and right while I was misting/watering/etc…but for what it's worth here its:

Today was pay day…so the plan was to go and buy some fertilizer and move these girls into the tent under an 18/6 veg stage; Well… big speed bump in that road… I still don't have any nutes!!!

Initially I was on the AN.com (Advanced Nutrients) bandwagon based on my close friends advice as well as my own research even (their marketing is clever). Even with a discount though; just to buy what I wanted (not necessarily needed) for the veg state (Sensi Grow A/B; Voodoo Juice; B-52) it was going to be over $100! After going through home brewer's thread:Dyna-Gro vs Advanced Nutrients Connoisseur (AK47 Grow); I clearly saw a huge difference in the two… and I'm looking to save money here of course. So I've decided based on some questioning in his thread to go with Dyna-Gro Grow/Bloom/Mag-Pro/Pro-Tekt.

These seedlings have been growing under that 1 Sun Blaster since 8/11/11. I was planning on moving them into the tent last night — but still not having any nutes figured I'd move them in the tent tonight after purchasing some nutes today at the local hydro shop(s). Called around my local shops… (had already gone to one and wasn't impressed my first time around). Google'd the local shops and called around today, no one is carrying Dyna-Gro Grow/Bloom in stock… some have the Pro-Tekt (which I could have gotten but if I don't have to drive then I won't…) but I was looking to purchase all 4 today… so that I wouldn't need anything more — in terms of fertilizer — for this first season here. So I just ordered from Dyna-Gro.com… should be here next week & all under a hundred all shipped (got 32oz/1L/0.25g).

While I'm not in any sorta rush, I want to make sure I do this right if I am to achieve my goals; I am concerned needless to say… that girls will be under the Sun Blaster for a little while longer than initially planned… I think it should be fine though.

hey man came across your grow - everything lookin good - got some tips - IMO - I would put your carbon filter OUTSIDE the tent - I have the similar tent - 4' wide x 8' tall x 8' length - and if your running a 600watt or high light I would exhaust it outside the tent with the duct to a 6" inline duct fan, connected directly to your carbon filter - this does 3 things roughly - #1- takes the HEAT from inside the tent OUT , #2- takes the smell out of the tent during flowering - and into the carbon filter which is why you bought it in the first place #3 helps with RH = relative humidity - if you can run your duct to another room or in a closet to exhaust the system - I will show pics of mine I am re-doing after running it inside mine - temps to hot - look at my grow journal - I'm just giving you some ideas - but why keep the heat inside ??

But looking good thus far - will stay tuned in!

Thanks for the tips. I already ran some test (as I wanted to test everything out before I actually need to use it) on the temp inside the tent. During the hottest part of the day (which I intend to be the 6hours of light off period)…*it reached as high as 84 and I'm only running 400w. Some information that I've read recommends that you suck air into the filter… rather than push the air out of filter.

I got a chance to skim through your journal a bit but intend on reading through it later, def. sub'd though ;)

I'm just an engineer during my "day job".....I'm adjusting my tent today - I will post pics for you - I ran a test with my setup - I am running a 1,000watt light - and temps are running 76 degrees! I will show detailed pictures after I get back from getting a little more hardware today. Thanks for the kind words and don't take it the wrong way - just wanna help out as much as I can ;-).

Definitely nothing taken the wrong way, all about tips n tricks I can pick up that will work for me and my environment. Amazing that you're hitting that temperature… simply by removing the filter from the tent?!!? I wouldn't mind moving the filter out of the tent… but I don't really have a place to put it to exhaust the hot air to keep a low profile. Right now I have 2 windows in my room (on two separate walls) …1 for intake and the other for exhaust and in a manner that you couldn't tell from outside (low profile… I'll add pics later actually) but I want to see about relocating my exhaust to the attic from this room using one of the vents in the room.

I'm looking forward to your pictures! :D

widowmaker, here is my grow room…

I finally got up in the attic… looks like removing that 'equalizer' in favor of exhaust from tent is going to not be worth it…

Well last night (9/7/11) I put the girls in the tent and started the vegging stage. They were in preveg under a T5 lamp for 4 weeks. I meant for them to be in the tent LAST week on 9/1/11 but I didn't have any nutes yet. My nutes should be coming this week so i figured, might as well start them on the 18/6 cycle. I decided to go ahead and do the 18hrs of light on from 6:30pm - 12:30pm, that way the lights are off during the hottest part of the day in between 12:30pm - 6:30pm (we just had triple digit temps yesterday, wtf?! lol)

The temps seem fine… when i put them in last night… inside the tent it got up to 86F… when I woke up this morning… it was down to 72F and as of right now that I'm typing this (11:18am), it looks like this:
.

It's kind of weird… I walk into my room and it's like a completely different climate zone, feels like Hawaii outside… but inside the tent it's much cooler… but the readings say otherwise /shrugs.

Filter in tent for sure. Just have the centrifugal fan suck air through the filter, into the hood, and then exhaust the air. There will be a few duct pieces between filter to hood and hood to fan obviously, try to use 90 degree duct elbows as well (significantly better air flow). All looks well aside!

I say, I certainly read that wrong, that was the OUTSIDE temp LOL. Lookin at the meter today I kept wondering…how the hell can it be 89F inside the tent and 80F outside the tent!??!
Well I was reading it BACKWARDS of course… :dunce: So this explains why my 3rd bedroom felt like a tropical paradise

So I took pics of the temp reading all day long today and here's the results:
Time: 11:02am //Light: on //Temp: 75f(inside tent) 82f(outside)
Time: 12:40pm //Light: off //Temp: 82f(inside tent) 86f(outside)
Time: 1:06pm //Light: off //Temp: 78f(inside tent) 86f(outside)
Time: 1:44pm //Light: off //Temp: 79f(inside tent) 87f(outside)
Time: 2:44pm //Light: off //Temp: 79f(inside) 88f(outside)
Time: 4:05pm //Light: off //Temp: 80f(inside) 89f(outside)
Time: 5:41pm //Light: off //Temp: 81f(inside) 89f(outside)

As of typing this:
Time: 7:15pm //Light:on //Temp: 78f(inside) 90(outside)

currently 93 degrees outside!! so all in all, temp inside the tent is under control! Good shit IMHO :hump:

Also received my nutes today!!!

in a 5 gallon home depot bucket filled with RO water I mixed the following in (in order):
2tsp Pro-Tekt
2tsp Mag-Pro
2tsp Grow

We'll see how things pan out. Girls seem to be doing good as well. Here they are right after the light turned on at 6:30pm and before I watered them with the nutes.

As always I'm open to constructive critizism. :blsmoke:

Looking awesome, Dec. Def subbed up. White Rhino is all the rage where I am right now. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Looks like you have a nice stock of nutes, ha! How big are the final pots?

Awesome to hear that it's all the rage. Truth be told… when I was picking the seeds from my dispensary… I went with White Rhino … 1. because it is cousin to white widow which is the one strain I haven't blazed in a long long time but recall it got me high as hell and 2. because the rhino reminds me of Ecko… my favorite brand of clothing. So…. stupid as that may sound, that's how it happened  So I can't wait to see how it turns out either… either way my goal will be to clone and continue on growing it.

I haven't actually purchased the final pots yet… as you may have noticed I went from the dixie party cups to the 2.72L pots… I was thinking either 3 or 5 gallon as the final… just taking it slow and playing it by hand as I still research going along with this first season here.

Thanks for the kind words and btw, I recognize your sig LOL seen it around the forums while reading up and researching on this forum :joint:

This morning (9/9/11) I took new temp readings for the day… woke up and here was how the morning starts after a typical night here in NorCal

Time: 7:05am //Light: on //Temp: 69f(inside tent) 73f(outside)
Time: 9:19am //Light: on //Temp: 69f(inside tent) 78f(outside)
Time: 11:20am //Light: on //Temp: 78f(inside tent) 82f(outside)
Time: 12:57pm //Light: off //Temp: 78f(inside tent) 85f(outside) — starting to get HOT outside… unusual for September weather here in NorCal
Time: 2:48pm //Light: off //Temp: 80f(inside tent) 88f(outside)
Time: 4:07pm //Light: off //Temp: 81f(inside tent) 90f(outside)

************* Now whether or not this pattern repeats tomorrow morning or not is unknown; because it was fuckin 10:00pm and 89f outside…*unusual THUNDERSTORM came through the valley today … so weird and it's extremely and unusually HUMID outside but…*in the grand scheme of things I don't think it matters… I 've been monitoring the temp inside the tent and all seems well. *************

Overall… It seems to be that the temp inside the tent is completely under control and appears that I made the correct decision in making sure the 6hours of light OFF (again between 12:30pm to 6:30pm) time is during the hottest part of the day. Now whether or not that is good for the plants to experience HOTTER weather during the NO LIGHT period or not is another thing… Anyone who can chime and and give me their 2cents is more than welcomed to give me their opinion; I welcome it :)

===================================

Now some detailed information I want to share and hope to get some opinions on.

I noticed with one of the girls (#5 to be specific) that there was some oddities on one of the lower leaves. Here is what I'm talking about:

Now this is the worst I've seen so far; you can see some ……… iono slight yellowing of the lower leaves as well as in the left side of the 3rd node up is a small lil hole in the leaf… there are absolutely NO SIGNS of any sort of bugs/insects that could be the cause.

So what i'll lay out is that that the night I put them in the tent to start the VEG stage… I watered them… with no NUTES just regular RO water at the correct PH (I figured hey, going under the 400w HPS light for 18hrs, might as well have some water to sip on while waiting for the nutes). This happened because I was low on funds and finally ordered the nutes and figured that I'd get them late; well they showed up 2 days AFTER I put them in the veg stage and I watered them again with the new nutes. So based on this here (which I saw in someone's avatar here on RIU so I spent time looking for the full size image which I linked below):

I figured… ok it's probably a combination of TWO things. 1.) Over watered and 2.) nutrient deficiency.

So i figured… well really just need to let time pass ( a week at most) before I can expect to see any improvements (or God forbid… it worsen…).

Anyone willing to shed light on this I welcome; as always I'm open to constructive critizism and in this case … someone w/experience on the matter at hand.

LOL I been wondering about that Neem oil, was thinking about picking that up next as a "just in case" thing.

I was checking up on your journal as well and noticed that we have the same exact filter!!! Before I put the girls in the tent and they were just under the T5 in the closet….. my wife was like… I CAN SMELL IT!! and I moved them to the tent and she's like "hey i don't smell it"… so PHRESH filter is def. the way to go… best bang for the buck IMHO :) (not that I have any experience being this is my first grow season but from my super close homie's experience, this is all he uses)

I'm keepin an eye on your journal so I'll be looking forward to any reports on the usage of that neem oil.

This is so exciting dood, I feel just like how you described in your thread… and to quote

I find it so hard to leave the fuckin tent everyday I check on them......lol It's like your first REAL g/f in grade school....hahaha. ...singin.....it feels like the first time....it feels like the very first time! haha..;-)
Okay well………*i hope that all makes sense… i'm like 6 or 7 "harvest pumpkin" blue moons deep and about to just dive into some CS:Source!

not much to report, I'll be do a smaller update later on tonight when I'm off work. I was going to do this "Topping" method I was reading about… and I may or may not do it to two or three of the girls. But I'm thinking I might just K.I.S.S on this season and just let them go all natural and on the next season go about that method. So far so good good though, the girls appear healthy. I'll update later tonight for sure though ;)
