I assume you mean the exhaust fan connected to the cool tube? I haveone push fan that's weak and a pull fan that's strong on my cool tube. The push one stays on 24/7 and the strong pull one is plugged into the same timer as my light.

The only reason I don't have both turn off is that I use the cool tube as my tent exhaust and I have no circulation fan yet( bad I know).

I would say it's fine to turn it down or off when the light is off.

Hell sometimes I turn mine down when the lights on so I can hear the tv better
thx man ill give it a try :peace:

Another idea is you can make a fan speed controller if the noise at night is loud. I turn mine down before bed time and up when I check them in the morning. Mine was super cheap about $13 canadian and took me 5 minutes. Even came with it's own set of marets. Let me know if you're interested. I even have pics, but I'm off to work now

hey kin, nice grow man.
about the exhaust, it would be good to have it on at all times. You can turn the speed right down when light is off and heat is not an issue.
Your girls will love the fresh air 24/7.
How long you plannin to veg for?

My El cheapo DIY speed controller

you will need:

the cheapest extension cord you can find (the beige one in the pics) I used one with only two plug holes as my fan has no ground wire
the cheapest dimmer switch you can find
scissors/knife
eletrical tape/duct tape OR mine came with two marets (yellow in pics)

my fan has no ground wire (black plug in pic) which simplifies things considerably

if yours does have a ground (3 prongs on the plug) it's the same idea except you'll be dealing with more wires

step one:
pick one of the two wires of the extension cord and carefully split it from it's twin. The split need only be 4 inches or so.

step two:
chose one of the now single cords and cut it in half leaving the other wire alone

step three:
carefully strip about 1/2 an inch of wire on each side of the cut cord.

step four:
take your dimmer switch and using the two power wires (mine were black) attach one to each end of the stripped wire by twisting them together. Then using tape or the marets secure the wires and make sure all the exposed bits are covered.

step five:
plug your fan into the female end of the extension cord then plug the male end of the cord into your power source. Mine goes into a power bar that's on my timer

note green wire in pic is for the ground on the dimmer switch so don't bother with it

note two don't panic if the fan won't start right away. Mine did this too and I thought I bungled it until I realized I had to push the dial in in order to turn it on initially then it could be adjusted by the dial

basically all the dimmer switch is is a pot that controls the amount of current that flows thru the fan. Low setting=high resistance and high setting= low/no resistance.

also note anything plugged into the modified cord will also be affected by the position of the dimmer switch so unless it's another fan probably use another power source

I did this quickly and would be happy to answer q's or take more pics if anything is unclear

plants are looking better every day the train wreck and the cheese are growing crooked weird huh, the lemon skunk is all better now
Subscribed....have the same multi pack, only have the cheese and wreck planted at the moment with some other strains.

Interesting on the cheese, 1 of my cheese is stout and has great node spacing, the other is the same but grows crooked regardless of what I do....completely healthy but will not grow straight.

Seems we germinated about the same time so it should be interesting to follow along.

so as you know from the title of this thread this is my 1st grow and i bought a MH and a HPS bulbs and i fucked up by using the HPS up until i looked this morning at the other bulb and realized i fucked up so i put the MH bulb in my cool tube so after almost 4 weeks of using the HPS will the MH bulb still be better to use in the veg growth or should i put the HPS back in ?

Word is the MH is better for veg growth and is a whiter/bluer light whereas the HPS is redder and is better for flowering. I can't remember the science aspect of it, but I'm sure you've read that a million times yourself.

I have vegged with HPS and flowered with MH. Was there a huge difference either time? No. Did I even notice a difference at all? To be honest, no I didn't.

Used to have say 6-8 lights in a room. Each light had perhaps 15 plants under it. We had SO many rooms and so many lights that we didn't even pay attention to which lights went where. I mean we did, but we didn't stress over it.

This was in the day before digi ballasts so it wasn't so easy to lug around and change. Plus we both were at university full time and worked 30 hrs a week.

From what I remember there was no noticeable difference. I'm sure someone who knows more would dissagree, but I wouldn't worry.

Since you spent the $ you may as well use both bulbs so keep the MH going, but don't think you've made a terrible mistake. I'm sure many many ppl have a non digi ballast and just use HPS the whole time with great results.

For a first grow you're doing pretty damn good, don't stress.

I veg with a MH and flower with a HPS.
I've never flowered with an MH before but I have certainly vegged with a HPS.
Vegging with a HPS works fine.
I would say stick with the HPS if that's what you've been using because you'll be swapping back to it soon for flowering anyway won't you?
Changing spectrums back and forth is probably not a ideal thing for your plants.
