1st time cfl bag seed

With the amount of money you'll spend on those cfl's, piping, sockets and everything else you could have bought a T5 HO fixture.... Not to say yours won't work because it obviously is... However it will optomize and organize your next grow much better
Thanks, thats not a bad idea, I didn't think about T5. I do have 6 T8 bulbs in the current setup now. They were just old shop lights laying around so I figured I'd use them to light the sides/bottom branches. I am not exactly sure what I want to do yet. I was considering building a box and painting it matte white or I could buy a tent. I'll have to see what it would cost for the 2x3's/plywood and paint versus the cost of the tent. I have plenty of screws so that's all I would have to buy to build one. Then I could use my hole saw bit for ventilation and install ceiling hooks to suspend my lightning. Would probably be better than messing with all those work light clamps. But I will probably incorporate some of them into the next setup for lower branches. Thanks for the suggestion! lol is that Wilfred Brimley?

Just remember... The more organized in the electrical department is less chance of a fire hazard...

wiethe20, what about heat and pvc? Could you be more specific? It won't get hot enough to distort the PVC if that is your concern? I suppose I could use wood instead. I am still debating what i want to do. I might build a box out of wood, paint it matte white and connect in line fans etc... Or I just might buy a tent. I'm possibly thinking of buying a Pro-Grow 400 (LED) which would be suspended at the top of the box. Not really sure what I am going to do yet to be honest. I am checking out all my options and comparing the costs of each setup.
I can't remember where but I was always heard not to use PVC in this case I don't know where you live but the heat adding to the lights heat scares me pvc is very toxic but yeah it probably wouldn't effect anything its probably crazy odds for it to but if you don't mind do a little looking up beforehand just because I know I have heard of it before and just wanted maybe help you or someone else that would be enjoying your amazingly grown bud if I could ☺...painting the wood will help, I went and bought a tent off of eBay and looked the materials up I think I paid about a $100 bucks it's 4x2x6 ft easy to hang lights straps come with it I think 5 different holes for fans etc.......but the mylar is amazing...you could also find that to put on your wood as well? And I deff am convinced on LEDs wish I had one.....look up John Berfelo on YouTube he has comparison videos (usually long but he knows his shit lol) and led smashes hps....to each his own so Goodluck in your decision and grow!!!!

Cool thanks for the info. I'll have to check him out. Yea I am leaning towards a tent or building a box myself. I doubt i'll be using PVC now that I think about it. It will definitely be cheaper to buy a tent. Wether I build the box depends on what kind of lightning I decide to go with. I am liking the idea of a tent.

It only cost me 320$ to build each 5x6x5 cab out of 3/4" white birch including screws brackets and paint. Add an extra 60-80$ if you want to make that 5x6x8. I have also used pvc before but way to flimsy for me. I made a wooden framed scrogg with "weed wacker" nylon for the net. It came out so strong that my wooden framing are being pulled inwards from the nylon lol.

Hey thanks for giving me an idea of what it would cost to build a box. Did you end up using 2x3 or 2x4 for the framing? There both relatively cheap, 2x4 isn't much more, I'm just curious if 2x3 would be sufficient. Why not 1/2" inch plywood instead of 3/4"? Just curious is there any advantages to the 3/4" over 1/2". What did you use the brackets for? Did you use them for supporting lighting? I was thinking of using 2 ceiling hooks with rope ratchets to suspend the light fixture.

Each cab has one 4x5 screen, But that was a huge fuckup for me once they filled the screen because they were retarded fast stretching sativa's once i hit flower they didnt want to stay under haha so i have to water with a 3 foot funnel lol. I use 3/4-1" because i work with wood on a daily basis as a part of my job as an electrician, half inch will work but at 5x6FT it will be flimsy. I used birch instead of plywood or mdf because it is way lighter and moderately strong but about 4x the price of ply.
The brackets were for the electronic lock inside of the door and the door itself.
It is extremely important to paint your box if you use wood, wood is prone to mold, mildew, water ect and it all ruins its structural integrity. Just use water based white matte house paint.
I bolted my 1000watt fixtures to the ceiling of the cabs because i use 5x6x5 there is no way in hell a 1000watt bulb needs to be lower than 5ft

lol nothing wrong with watering with a beer bong :) Yea if I choose to build a box it would definitely be painted matte white to reflect light and of course to prevent damage to the wood. There would also be a plastic tray to collect run off as well. I do bathroom/kitchen remodeling for a living and do a lot of tile work. If I do decide to build a box I would consider using Redgard (waterproofing membrane) and over that would be 2-3 coats of matte white paint. Yea good point about the 1000w bulb. I'm thinking of doing a 3x3, 5'-6' height, with possibly a 400w HPS. Still debating LED vs HPS. But if I don't go HID I might need to suspend the lighting so it is adjustable. You prefer saliva over indica? I like to have a variety personally, depends on how I am feeling. On my days off when I need to get chores done around the house I prefer a saliva. After a hard day of work I like to smoke indica when I am off the clock.

Both but indica is fun to watch grow.

I intend on growing a mix because I can harvest the indica earlier. I hope to eventually get to the point where it doesn't matter because of the good yields and i always have more home grown than I can smoke. No offense to CFL growers but from what I've read I am considering switching light sources in attempt to get bigger yields. Not that it can't be done with CFL, I am sure it can be. From what I've been reading it isn't as cost efficient. I have grown before, only outdoors only once, so maybe the title of thread is misleading because I have read up on the subject quite a bit. I didn't super crop or top my outdoor plants last year so that was a new experience. This is a first time indoors. After the first time growing outdoors I was tired of dealing with pests and pulling caterpillars out of my buds and not to mention the lack of manipulation to trigger flowering.

I switched from CFLs to a 400w HPS/MH primarily because I wanted to simplify my growing space and got tired of placing and adjusting a bunch of bulbs all the time, increased yields were a nice bonus. I still use CFLs when I want to grow something in a small box or cabinet (CFLs rock in micro grows and are dirt cheap), but in my opinion one powerful light is the way to go if space and temperatures aren't an issue for you. Also, you can get a 400w HID for pretty damn cheap. I got one similar to the one linked below and it has served me well through 3 years of constant growing.

Wow that is pretty cheap. Thanks for the link and recommendation for a reliable brand to go with.
