1st Scrog (Harvest Advice)

Below is a current picture of the scrog. Its in one-half of a closet (3'8" x 2'8") under a 400w HPS.

It consists of two 5-gallon buckets (1 plant each) and a tote for the control bucket. As of today the plants are 42 days old.

The strains are Blackberry and Orange Mandarin. I also have a Northern Lights going in a bubble bucket under floros, and she is also 42 days old.

NL as of today with some close-ups.

I have grown all 3 strains at least once but not under these current atmospheric conditions. The first grows were during Texas summer meaning the grow closet stayed around 85-95F with lights on and 80-85F with lights off.

Now, the temp is 70-81F lights on and 65-75F lights off. I am noticing a faster rate of maturing and can only attribute it to the more favorable conditions. I generally go 10 weeks but I am thinking that 10 weeks might overshoot peak potency so I am looking for advice.

Close-Ups.

Here are some pics of the trichs that I took by rigging my phone camera lens up to my scope (Fuggetahbotit lol)

Based on trichs I am thinking 2 more weeks but that time frame is so much faster than my previous harvests so that is the reason I am asking for advice. Still a youngen at all this. Thanks for any help I receive.

Looking great! trichomes look like they are forming very nicely and you sure have a lot. But from the bud pictures and the time frame I would wait another 2 weeks .as well. I like to harvest when almost all my pistils have turned a cinnamon color and shriveled up. Look for the final swell by noticing the straight bright white pistils still emerging from the buds.. if you see that she is still swelling and give her time...Nice work!

Thanks for the info Doc. Aside from trichs, when you normally harvest what % of your plants' pistils have changed colors and withered? I ask because I am not completely certain yet if harvesting with any amount of white pistils still on the plant is too soon, even if the trichs say chop. This is a misunderstanding on my part that I am trying to gain clarification on.

I have been reading up a bit and understand that the psychoactive properties are in the trichomes; therefore, they should be the ultimate indicator but I have never seen smokeable product with any white hairs. They are all usually red, brown, orange, etc. This is my dilemma.

That is a complicated question full of variables.
When to harvest looking at pistils , I have come to realize isnt as black and white as i thought.....because it might be strain dependent, light dependent as well.
So I think taking a number of factors into consideration is important. Take all the variables and then decide a good day that fits into your schedule to harvest.
Checking trichomes for some amber is prob the most reliable that tells you, yeah your ready freddy.
As far as white hairs on dried bud. They turn those colors you see when they dry and shrivel up when they dry that's why.
why don't you take a small bud now and dry it out to see what it looks like you so you know first hand, from the most reliable source out there, yourself.

Well that would just make too much sense wouldn't it lol. I just took a little nug from each plant. Might as well test potency in a few days too.
