I had been using my aerogarden pro with this light fixture I have now up until this afternoon..

Alright so I went to the store today and saw these tubs with lids, they were like $2 so I decided to buy a set, I got home and tested out this airstone with my 15 gallon pump, I was just going to throw 3 thai super skunk seeds in it on 12/12 from seed.. But I was really impressed. I have been getting really tired of how hard it is to move my AG res around. Plus this has equal water depths for all of the plants, the only thing it lacks is a drip system, which I will probably rig up soon. Plus this base is layered with mylar.. =]

The tub is clear-ish green, you can't see shit in it with water in it, but I duck-taped the entire bottom bin to light proof it.

Its a 1 gallon res, which Is exactly the same size as my aerogarden, but flat, and less bulky.

I have a 40 gallon pump in there with a 10" round airstone, there are tons of bubbles.

Also, since the res is really wide and short that means the water level won't matter as much, plus if it ever gets really low the airstone can just spray water because of the massive pump I'm using.

Its really convenient to mix nutes because I can just put them in the jug and dump the entire thing in there, its so easy to work on my plants and res.. just take the lid off and stick it in an empty one for the time being or just pH'd water while you clean out the res or add a new airstone.

I really liked my aerogarden at first, but I started getting a more and more complicated setup and it wasn't really worth all of the extra work and space.

So here are the specs...

1.5 gallon res (1 gallon line at the very bottom of sponges res is light proofed.)

40 Gallon air pump

10" Round airstone

Nutrients: Foxfarm Hydro Trio

Veg Lighting: 4x26w 6500K CFL + 2x42W 2700K CFL (10,800 lumens)

Flowering Lighting 4x26W 2700K CFL + 2x42W 2700K CFL (12,200 lumens)

So yea, both fem seeds have started to poke out of the shell, the bagseed plant is not feminized so I can exterminate it earlier if its a male. I will be taking clones from this plant for some friends, so the extra veg time should be fine.

If anyone has any simple drip feed systems let me know...

Also.. I was thinking about trying a scrog with this.. would that be possible?

until next time...

im diggin the setup. Especially how the lights are setup, thats badasss. I hear you on the AG too. I had so many problems with mine towards the end. I'm goin to the hydro store today to look at some other options. Might keep my AG for clones or vegetables.

Yea, I will definitely use the AG as a cloner or try out some real veggies.

IDK if my plants really like the dwc so far, bagseed plant is kind of sagging, will be watching this over the course of the day. I woke up and my airstone was floating.. Had to switch it out for a weighted one.

My whiteberry seed wouldn't shed seed, so I had to do some surgery.

I accidently dropped my grow pod on the floor on the way to the bathroom (idk how, must have been because I just woke up) and broke the grow net, but the seed and membrane popped right off when it hit the ground, lol no damage done though, just a carpet rub.

If everything goes wrong in this tub I can always switch back to the AG if I need to.

looks good man. are you going to try to grow them all the way to harvest in that res? it will get over crowded and tangled. i had this problem in veg on my first dwc.:wall: if the bag-seed ends up male you will never get the roots separated. that will cause root rot from the dead roots decaying.:peace:

Movin' from the AG is definitely a good idea. There is way too much involved with trying to get the AG to do exactly what you want. Can't wait til I get the money together to throw at some more Hydro stuff. Lookin' good though man. Best of luck on this one!bongsmilie

Yea I never really thought about that, would suck if I tainted some potential yield from my feminized seeds.

I think 3 plants is too much for a 1.5 gallon res anyways, I made a new lid with 2 holes. My initial plan was to only grow 2 strands and I was going to toss the bagseed plant anyways, but it looked too pretty to kill, I just found a new home for it.

I was checking on my thai super skunk seeds and.... I dropped one of them and I never found it. Seeds were free so I'm not too worried.

Going to 12/12 from seed these plants just to see what hapens, the thai super skunk has 12-14 week flowering.

I have room for another 1.5 gallon tub in my grow space if it looks like it will be worth moving to the big room if I get any fems.

On a more related note..

Both white berry and blue cheese seeds have sprouted, will post an update of them in a few days.

Its Big Buddha blue cheese.

Both seeds sprouted in 5 days from putting them in the AG sponge, bone dry.

The BC seems like its growing much slower than the WB though.

WB is about to pop out a second node today, the BC just has the first set of round leaves...

Alright well I guess its about time I posted an update of my plants....

Day 2

The white berry plant has a purple ish hue on the outer leaf tips, looks like it is growing very well. The blue cheese plant is growing slow compared to the white berry, even though it was the first one to sprout. Only a few roots are out of the sponge, tiny white tips poking out. Plants are on 20/4 light cycle right now.

Like I mentioned in another post, I gave it to a buddy of mine, seems like he is taking good care of it, the browning on the leaves was my fault, I spilled some nutrient water on it when I was moving it.

Its looking really nice so far, we are going to move it into a bigger pot tomorrow. It also has some purple/blue hues going on on the newer leaves.

Sorry for the crappy celphone pic, it was all I had.
Nice, how did you transplant her?
Just took the AG sponge out of the grow net, cut the label off, started throwing soil in the cup while keeping the plant suspended so the roots get into the soil and not just balled up at the top, thats what happened the first time.

Also, I think the AG sponge is really nice for keeping it really wet at the base of the roots. it just drips down to the rest of them.
aight fa sho, i hoping if any males, i would transfer out into soil, and collect pollen :weed:
Haha yea thats what I told my buddy, I was like 'hey dude no matter what you get its going to work out good, if its a fem you get bud, if its a male I get pollen and we both gets free seeds which equals more bud'

We both have 2 thai super skunks germing right now, so at least one of them is bound to be female... would be an interesting cross, heavy sativa mix with a heavy indica mix.

Sounds like it would be kind of unstable though, since its going to be F2 (Assuming the bag seed I have now is F1)

He is using miracle grow organic potting soil, without any nutes. I might throw him some big bloom every now and then when he is flowering. I told him to get some perlite to use as fert, he has some miracle grow fert, but idk what the hell it is.. it doesn't list N-P-K or anything.
