18/6 - 24/0

I am growing 24/0 and i think plants is same like if you grow 18/6 .Plants need rest .its last time when i grow 24/0...guys what is best bulb for Flowering>?

I wish there wasn't so much misinformation and conflicting information out there. I mean it is a pretty well known plant. i wonder... do people disagree about the right and proper and best way to grow orchids? probably yes, huh?
Having dealt witht the orchiding communtiy through my grams, we do not disagree or bicker anywhere NEAR as much as they do...if little old ladies over 60 got together and started growing herb like they do roses & orchids, WATCH THE FUCK OUT!!!

that's what we need - and they can tell us what's what!

but i'll bet i have a pretty good reason why they don't bicker - cause if you fuck up growing orchids they die real fast. if you fuck up growing weed - well it's a weed! a lot harder to kill (thank goodness!)

i think that as long as we grow, we will have this debate. I still stick to my thought that in nature there is not a 24 period of light. and with all our nutes and hid lights and fans and ppm and ph...arent we trying to give the plant just what nature gives? hence i will continue to use my 18/6.

actually you would be better of starting at 18 and working up to 24, like in nature, but not necessary really.

to really mimic nature you'd need some pretty sophisticated timers - adding or subtracting about a minute every day and you don't get 18 hour days until August and only at about 70 degrees latitude - and don't forget the light movers.

Giving them 18/6 through the whole vegetative cycle is unnatural also - not to mention a straight 12/12 right through flowering.

For all the sacrifices indoor growers have to make, controlling light cycles is one of the few benefits and this may be one of the cases when we have a leg-up on nature.

Once again i am wishing for some good science behind our choices but can't seem to find any (maybe i'm looking in the wrong places) then we can finally end the debate.

I have my lights on 24/0 and I plated a clone in a 4'' pot and the root bal grew so fast in 1 week it chiked its self

i think im going to start on 18/6 cause im in a small space and i could use the downtime to let some cool air get into the box

defineatly 18/6..they need a dark stage...sure the dice could roll your way and make them grow a bit faster...but for the money vs. the results...its a waste.

many growers and even Ed Rosenthal will disagree about plants needing a dark period during vegetative growth. i'd love to see some research on this.

yeah thats just what ive been told and what ive stuck to just to be careful and its always worked for me so...idk maybe 24/0 could make a difference but my point was that it wouldnt be a big enough difference to pay more money for.:hump:

oh i agree - especially if you have a bunch of HIDs using 18/6 can add up to real savings. I just wish our beloved plant wasn't so demonized and illegal so we could do some real research - with peer-review and such.

I agree on the peer reviewed research, how nice would that be? Maybe I'll try some side by side growth comparisons and see if I notice a difference then, As I have not been able to discern a marked improvement using one or the other in back to back grows.

using an 18/6 would that significantly drop the temperature in a small box (like 2 rubbermaids)

also is it better to do it at night when its cooler, or in the day when its the hottest (not adding to more temp)

experiments are always welcome!

Would it really? The heat build up comes on fairly quick as does dissipation after its turned off. But what about that 18 hours of on time? The heat is there. 18/6 over 24/0 on heat is NOT a reason to go 18/6. The heat will fall off fast. But when they are on, say at the 4 hour mark vs. the 15 hour mark the temp would be pretty much the same.

So that leads to a new question:
Do we want the temp the same across the board or average?

From what I've read (and in a lot of places) that a 10-15 degree drop from ON vs. OFF is good (within the desired temps). Outside of that, you *can* have issues.

IM GONNA FIRE UP THE BONG RIGHT NOWbongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie, THEN IM GONNA GO N HAVE ME A GOOD HEART TO HEART WITH MY PLANTS TO SEE IF I CAN GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS!!!...LOL:mrgreen:

yeah I see what youre saying with the heat issue... guess just thinking about it to much, i still think that letting a small case cool down if the heats high during the day is a good thing

im pretty sure that the dark stage is so that the plants can process energy from all of the glucose that they have produced during the light hours so..
