150w Metal Halide Light Socket??

Can someone please tell me what sort of socket this bulb needs or does it have to go into a spotlight type reflector only? It is about 4" long...

looks like maybe a double ended hqi, used a lot in aquariums, I have one or two if them, , any refelctor should do... heres the kind of bracket(socket) you need, reasonable price but I remember finding some a few years ago for about half, no idea where though

If its a metal halide bulb then it needs a metal halide ballast and socket.

yeah, 99% sure its an MH bulb, aquariums use the 6k up color temps, any markings on it or the box it came in?

sorry for the multiple posts, crap interenet connection plus not enough coffee anyway you could probably do DIY reflector pretty easy, I'd look at the double wing reflectors for ideas and then grab some aluminum or steel from an old pc case or something

I have constructed full light fixtures with bottle lamp sockets, cardboard, foil, and tape with BEAUTIFUL results. I understand the MH bulb is a bit different bc of heat issues and so fourth and so on. I have CFL. I have seen people use like half of a stove pipe before though and buy the ballast separately. Are you on a budget????

cheers for the replies yeah i got a second hand german made vossla schwabbe? mh/hps 150w ballast off the bay for 30 bucks. my last grow was 130w cfl i got 2oz dry so that plus this 150 should hoot! i realised today i can just modify a halogen spotlight with similar bulb. just have to spread the socket ends a bit wider.

its funny you can buy a hqi socket for 15-20 bucks or you can buy a whole spotlight with globe reflector and lead for 12bucks at a hardware store.

what do you mean by this? are you saying your trying to use that for a mh bulb or ?
