Well, like I said.. Im really not worried about the carpet "catching fire" or something. Its not THAT hot. It's moreso that electronics really shouldnt get to extreme temps. It's not healthy for them.

Also, I dont know if I want to leave the top totally off because that could cause dust build-up...

Hmm.. so.. fires aside.. youre not worried about the heat possibly damaging your machine?

I mean we really did nothing to the lights that would make them hotter than the way they came from econolight, we probably made the ballast cooler because we remoted the lamp, so I think it should be fine, I mean we do turn it off for 12 hours a day.

True true... I totally understand. I dont think that we necessarily altered something that is causing heat problems. However, in all fairness, the lamp was $20.. I'm just brainstorming how we could possibly add to the longevity of our plant's man-made solar messiahs!

I did read this on another forum (not grow related):
Looking back at the overclocking thread a stock 400 watt MH ballast had the secondary windings heated to 205 deg without cooling.
The core got to 179 deg.
This is sitting on a bench, the temp will be higher in a box.

Many ballast are in a small steel box with a lamp right under them heating them up with no forced air cooling.
They can take the heat fairly well but a little extra cooling will go a long way.

So, now I do see that ballast just straight up get hot. And you are totally right, bxke. We did cool it somewhat by removing the hot bulb from next to it. Like I said, just trying to mow over ideas to possibly keep our lights really bangin' for our buck!

Absolutely, like I said you could just take the top off and leave the interior exposed. You are on here about as much as I am, are you unemployed as well?

Hmm..maybe if you have a fan blow air directly on it...Air-cooled like a Harley you know. I'm going to Home depot today to rig up my econo light...Has anybody rigged a switch for the econo light? or just a plug??

Unemployment rocks tho, I wouldn't wire a switch to it, buy a 3 prong outdoor extension cord from walmart, its cheap like $8, and the 2 prong is $2.

And ICurbYou, check out what I read about white widow,

lol.. whoa whoa whoa.. Im not unemployed!! haha. Im at work right now. I do web/graphic design so I am on a laptop ALL the time. I also have freelance clients so majority of my life I stare at a computer.. I multi-task well. I just keep this shit up all day and pop over to it every little bit.
I recently got my work to double my pay, and have me work half the amount I was before... So, luckily I will get to bless you guys with more presence!

I have read that same little bit about the WW. I read everything I coiuld find on it before I ordered. i really hope it is the strongest weed in the world. Funny thing is, Im pretty much a light-weight smoker. I'm hoping to be the first death by marijuana (LOL).

I miss my plants SO fucking much. I usually see them every morning at 9... But they are off until 5pm!!!!! :(

I'm on a budget! My entire budget for my grow "op" is completely funded by the government. I took my "economic stimulus" check and used it for a grow fund.

I don't need their shitty money to "stimulate" the economy that they have destroyed. :roll:

nice to see i am not the only one with a 150w HPS. =]
im still in veg tho under 4ft floros. 3 weeks in. ill flower
as soon as i get my my grow tent. (hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks)
1st grow, so i went with some bag seeds, but i also have some white rhino
that are about 1 week old. good luck with everything fellas.

also, have any of you harvested a 150w HPS grow already?
