150 HPS security light that includes a capacitor?

Hi I see that E-conolight.com has 150 HPS security lights for 39 bucks. But I hear these fixtures don’t use capacitors, so they consume about 350 watts instead of the 150 watts they would if they had one. So it do you think I could wire in a capacitor if I could find one? Or does anybody know where I can get a 150 HPS security light that includes a capacitor?

I thought about buying a ballast kit from businesslights.com, but I got nervous when I saw that the name they use to charge the credit card with is associated with hydroponics stores as well (plantlightinghydroponics.com). Do you know of any other safe websites that sell ballast kits as well?

Thanks

Hyrdroponics stores are 100% legal, so are the lights and all nutrients you use.

Don't buy seeds with that card. HTG Supply is a good cheap store.

Go to the local electrical warehouse they dont ask Qs just ask 4 the guts to a hps 150,400,600,1000 you wont find them no cheaper just have to wire it up your self. It sounded like you could. i dont know about 350w but with out a capacitor it would get an uneven supply of juice which would wast.

That first off is a security light like outdoor using shit I install them for a living they get pretty hot man don't think you want to use that. It's kind of like going out and trying to use a 300-500w flood light lol just wont happen you will burn your house down in 2 hours...

It won't burn your house down! I've used them before, and they do get hot, however, if you gut them and make them remote ballast, they work awesome. Even if you leave them housed, as long as you don't have them sitting against a stack of dry flammable material, they're no more likely to burn your house down than, say, a 1000W bulb.
They DON'T use 350W, if it was missing a part (which to be honest, I'm not sure it would even work at that point) it possibly would work inefficiently but not to the tune of an extra 200W.
The difference between buying a security light and buying a light from a hydroponics supplier is intended application. A security light is set up to be used as a security light. You can totally use it for growing (as long as it's HPS or MH), but it's a good idea to modify how it's housed (it doesn't matter if a security light is hot when being used a s a security light). Same for a light meant for growing, you COULD use it as a security light, except you'd have to house it properly so it won't get easily damaged.

Capacitors are used to increase the "power factor" of inductive devices. Your light will not use 350 watts without it, but it will draw as much current as a say a 350 watt incandescent lamp, just not the wattage. If you are having trouble with overloading the circuit you might want to add the capacitor but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it, the electric bill will only show the 150W of consumption (plus the ballast losses which are about another 25 W.

basically youd just extend the wires going to the light socket and move the socket away from the ballast or ballast away from the socket, whichever is easier.
