I am running 12 plants under two 600w HPS bulbs currently timed to an 18/6 light schedule in a 6x8x8 room lined with b&w poly. For ventilation I have a 6’’ carbon filter attached to a controlled 1000cfm fan pulling air from the lights/room outside. For intake I have a 4’’ 170cfm fan for fresh air, as well as an oscillating fan inside for the plants. Temperature/humidity is usually around 70°F/50% lights on, 60F/40 lights off. For soil I am using Organicare Indoor Aeration Formula in addition to an inch or so of General Organics forest hummus on top, massaged into the soil. I am using General Organics for nutrients (BioThrive and CaMg+ for vegetative growth and BioBloom and BioBud for flowering) and I will be following their feed chart, trying to do a full watering/feeding every 2-3 days. I also plan on buying some additives later on during flowering. Because this is my first grow I was hesitant to try any growing techniques, but I convinced myself to attempt some low strength training on a few of my plants to learn and try it out.

Here is a nice little MS Paint drawing of what my setup looks like roughly to give you an idea (I changed a few things during the construction process):

I started this journal a bit late so I’d say I am roughly in the third week of vegetative growth from when I bought them as clones about 5’’ high.

I encountered a bad case of powdery mildew on several plants in combination with nitrogen deficiencies – two problems I have since worked out through organic pesticides and feeding them nutrients. Unfortunately, growth on the plants was stunted considerably during those early weeks. Since I started them on a schedule of nutrients (BioThrive (10ml) and CaMg+(5ml)), they have regained color and strength (as you will see in the pictures).

Comments and criticism are welcome and appreciated!

I watered/fed them Sunday and plan on giving them some grub on Wednesday. Here are some pictures of each in week 3:

That’s the first 12. Like I said originally I decided to do some LST bondage on a few of them to try it out. Here’s some pictures of the babies that are tied down (Afgoo 1 & 2, BBxTW, and Chocolope):

This past week I noticed a huge change in plant growth and their response to nutrients (which I have upped slightly). Plants that had shown any deficiencies are quite healthy now save one of the Afgoos, the BBxTW, and the Mazari Sharif (which I imagine should be completely healthy by the end of the week). The others plants are doing amazing. The Jack has already surpassed the Mazari Sharif (due to how weak he has been) and the Maui is on the way to outgrowing the Mazari as well. The leaves on the Maui and Jack are HUGE. I recently noticed some gnats were present and installed a piece of fly tape which has done a fairly good job at killing some of them. I plan on buying organic gnat pesticide (as I’ve learned they come from the soil) to rid the room of them all. The plants are growing at such a considerably fast rate that I imagine I will have to induce flowering in the next two weeks, size depending. Here are some pictures I snapped recently:

Week 6 of Growth, Week 2 of Flowering (Flowering began on February 15)
February 22, 2011

I became lazy with this grow journal and got tied up with other activities but now have found the time to update. Everything is almost too bushy to try to take individual pictures, but I will try in a few days. I have taken a group shot though. They’re all doing quite well save for the Mazar Sharif (who I believe is still magnesium and nitrogen deficient despite the numerous feedings) and the Chocolope. The Jack Herer also is a little hungry for nutes. I plan on upping their dosage from the General Organics schedule as they are hungrier than the others. I plan on watering around every other day but I starved them for a day or two because I was testing out some organic gnat solution I bought. That in conjunction with a cape sundew (carnivorous plant) I acquired seem to be helping a lot, but I still noticed a few gnats today. A criticism I’ve received is that they’re too close together so I plan on putting another tray in to spread them out so air flow is better and they have more room to grow. I also plan on pruning the lowest, smallest branches to around 4’’ from the base of the stalk. That’s all for now really. Here’s a group shot, hopefully more will follow:
