1000watt hps and low ceilings

My first grow has gone wonderful, you guys have supplied me with so much good info! I made a few mistakes, but learned how to spot nute burn, dehydration, males...all kinds of great shit.

I am going from a tiny 4x4x7' room, to a 6x10x7 room. I am on a tight budget, so I have been running (1)400watt hps with a diy cooltube and cpu fan, and (1)150 watt hps w/same tube/fan. I used compact 26watt floros for the pre-veg. Heat isnt an issue at all so far because the room is large.

I think I need more light!! One of my babies is already 34" tall and Im kinda runnin' out of ceiling room. If I try to make the current lights cover the room, theres no way my budz will grow, will they?

I just bought a 1000watt hps ballast.
Can a 7' ceiling and a 4" diy bake around, support the heat of a 1000watt hps?

I can't afford a $200 hood. Did my impulse buying bite me in the ass? I was so tempted to buy a 600watter. Im the type that goes big when I go, but maybe I got a little light hungry?

Anyhow, im going for 12-16 5gal buckets, 1plant each. I have a 6x10x7 room. So far I've a 400 and 150 hps light setup. I know theres hundreds of posts about light setups, but havent found anyone trying the diy tube on a 1000 yet. Anyone got any suggestions? Do I sell what I got and regroup? Thanks for the help.

Ended up just spending the money and glad i did. With the venting, I can keep the 1000 hps or MH about 8-10" from the plants. Thus leaving plenty of ceiling room. Being a large room in the basement, Im actually using a space heater to combat the cold of winter .

A yieldmaster hood with 1000watter covers 3x3' area with no shading or shadows, and at 10" above the plants, it's damn bright!! I am sticking with the 9 plants in 9 square feet. The light can handle 4x4' with minimal losses at that height, so thats just enough room for the same 9 (5gal) Buckets when they get bushy.

If you want the best of budz, guess you gotta buy the goood equipment.:cuss:

btw: the pic shows a test run, i got other babies now :)

very nice setup you have there. can't wait until i have a bit more room to work with so i can upgrade to more/stronger lights... just curious as to what carbon filter you are using there? also, it looks like there is a couple wires/strings hanging from the side of it?

only thing i would like to suggest is maybe buying some yo yo light hangers, i bought a pair just to see how they were and they make lifting and lowering your lighting rigs so damn easy.

Thanks for the info. My doodad list is far from complete. Gna go with movers and hangers someday. The filter you see there was a homemade filter. I spent about $40 and it didn't work well enough. My location depicts my filter work flawlessly. I ended up crying for a while, then dropping about $200 down on a phresh filter. Guess what?! I aint crying now. Even had the DARE campaign, poster children, in laws in, and they stayed over. Standing on other side of room, they were clueless. Believe me, her dad can smell a bush from a damn mile. Even with my phresh filter, i just looped some wire and screwed it to the ceiling. About to teardown, sterilize, and rebuild my room this month, so I'm sure there will be tiny mods and upgrades at that time.

Thanks for looking. Happy growing!!
