1000w HPS or 2 P1500 LEDS?

Hello. I have a 4x4x8 grow tent. Currently with 1000w HPS. I have 6 plants using Ocean Forest & Happy frog (50/50), & Emerald Harvest 3-Part Nutrients series.

I am interested in switching to led, but do not want to lose light, and or waste money. Would 2 P1500 Viparspectra leds work as an equivalent to a 1000w HPS? How much actual usable light will I lose or gain? Does that matter? I have been trying to research this for a few days but have found differing answers...

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am just now trying to get back into growing after a long hiatus and am seeing that LED seems to be the way to go now?

P1500 VIPARSPECTRA seems to be the best led light bang for the buck I have stumbled across, is there any others that would be recommended, or better?

2 of those will not replace a 1000 watt HPS.

Why do you want to stop using your 1000 watt HPS? Electrical costs? Too much heat?

You would need 7 or 8 of those to get anywhere near what your 1000w HPS puts out.
Your going to be spending at least 600$ to get an LED to replace your HPS.

1,000 watt hps produces really nice quality buds, getting the equivalent out of LED is going to be pricey. I'd calculate the monthly energy savings based on your electrical costs, price out a system that will be at least equal to yours, then see if you think it's worth it to switch. Honestly, I wouldn't switch unless there was another factor involved....say, too much heat to grow in the summer, or something like that.

Yup summer heat can be a big problem. If you are paying for ac to cool your HPS, then LED may be justified. HPS bulbs also add up over time. But I just do one winter grow and the HPS keeps the grow room at the perfect temp so for me HPS is definitely the more economical solution. Plus paying big bucks for a light that i only run a few months out of the year doesnt make sense either.

Also factor in the cost of replacing bulbs with HPS.

I recently swapped my 2 1000w hid lights for two leds and am very happy about it. They where pricey for sure but I don’t have to run an ac in my room all day, I’ve opened up circuits in my house to double my light coverage. In electrical costs alone the two lights will nearly pay themselves off in a year. And when my other two get ordered and are hung they will pay for themselves in one grow. I’ll be a tad over my power consumption of 2x 1000hid but I’ll have a 10x10 grow area going vs a 4 x 8. It just depends on what you fancy.

With a good Eye Hortilux HPS bulb you can get great bud with 600 watts in a 4’X4’ without the extra heat of the 1000. From everything I’ve personally seen a real LED to replace a 1000 and produce bud runs about $750. Or more.

This is true too, just depends on if OP is willing to take a bit of a hit on production in exchange for less electric costs...a 630 CMH would be great too, except then he'd be paying a bit more for it(but still less than LEDS). 600 watt hps are hard to beat at around $129 for the vivosun fixture. Some of the best indoor bud I've grown was under my old 600 hps lights. Too bad OP missed the black friday LED sales, I saw some pretty good deals.

CMH isnt nearly as efficient as HPS from what I understand. great veg lights for sure. Im going to try flowering an 11 square foot tent with two 315's. I think im going to run each of them for 10 hours with an 8 hour overlap. So they will get a sort of a 2 hour "morning" and "evening" and only 8 intense hours in the middle.

XS series better. It has the LM301B diodes and better heat sinks. Not sure why they promote the P series as better other than they have a warehouse full. Mars just released their LM301 diode the FC series. Only shortcoming is that no IR. Not sure why no IR. And it’s pricey.
