How far along are you in your grow with the Grape Ape? Being my first grow, I don't have anything to compare it too so we will see.....

Well there's always something to deal with it seems.....After 2 weeks of steady grow room temps I walked in today and found the temp at 91.8 Degrees...WTF? I know my cold air intake was maybe 2 degrees warmer with all this sunshine but the room went up about 8 degrees.....
I opened the door and got the temps down, the good thing is that the girls don't seem to show any ill effects from the elevated temp. Just one more problem to solve.
Both the PH and PPM's went up during the last 24 hrs.
PH went from 5.8 to 6.5 (which it's been doing every day since I changed the newts) and the PPM went from 1220 to 1310 (It had been holding fairly steady)
I'm thinking the girls drank more water than newts do to the high temps....
I'm feeding them 3 times per day: 1st feeding 15 minutes 1 hour after lights on; 2nd feeding 30 minutes in the middle of lights on cycle; 3rd feeding 15 minutes 1 hour prior to lights out. Seems to be working well.

Damn those are looking GREAT!!! Not sure if i wanna show how my girl looks. You have me thinking i should go ahead and try Grape Ape again. I know I stressed the hell out of her in the begining plus started under a 150w HPS now i have a 600w. Keep up the good work. Definately watching this one until the end. +rep

:wall: Well I thought I would save some money and build a carbon filter.....Not so fast....The materials I used slow the air down way too much... I started with 2" of activated carbon and the fan would barely pull air through...I took it down to about a 1/4 of carbon and it would pull air through but I could still smell the plants on the other end.....I wasn't even happy with the volume of air at that point....damn..

Ok I switched from Metal Halide to HPS today after the girls had 12 hrs of rest.... Boy you can really see the different color spectrum... I think you can even tell just in the photos! I drained the nutrient barrel and found that the girls had gone through about 7 gallons of water in the last week. Seems like a lot for the size of the plants...
Mixing up a batch of bloom newts and we are off and running!

Well my runt had a growth spurt since switching to flower.... It's almost caught up in height to the rest of the plants! It's no where near as full as the others but I'm glad to see it! The girls seem to have been drinking more water than nutes as the PPM count has gone from 1150 to 1350 and all of a sudden today I had leaf tips curling under.... I added a couple of gallons of water and got the PPM down under 1200 so hopefully that will do the trick! I'm going to wait until day 7 of flower to post new pics.... Stay tuned!

Ok so new question for you all.... I want to take a couple of cuttings to clone so I can start a couple of mother plants....I'm into day 4 of flower and picked up the plants as clones 6 weeks ago. Not sure how old they were when I got them. The Bible says to wait until the plants are 2 months old before cloning. Do you think I'm ok to to clip them now or should I wait?

Thanks,

J

Ok my first attempt at a simple carbon filter failed miserably....It just didn't have enough surface area to be effective and stacking more active carbon just slowed the volume of air to an unacceptable level. I was sitting around last night and decided that I already had all the materials I needed, just need some pantyhose from the old lady...A nice pink pair at that!
I cut the flange end off the 4" vent elbow I already had and wrapped the 1/4" mesh wire around it and secured it with self tapping screws. I taped the seam to keep the sharp edges from tearing the nylon stockings.
I then made a second cage slightly bigger than the first, again taping the ends and the seams to protect the stockings.
I then installed the nylon stockings on the inside cage, starting at the end opposite the flange.
The next step was to slide the outside cage over the inside...again from the end opposite the flange.
The nylong stockings were then stretched over the outer cage and pulled down to the end opposite the flange. The created a pocket in the nylons between the inner and outer cage.
With the flange resting on the table, I filled the cavity between the two cages with active carbon, you can see in one of the pictures where it is partially filled.
Once I completely filled the gap, I pulled the end of the nylons over the fill area and then taped the whole thing completely closed.
It is working great! Now my plants aren't that smelly yet so we will see down the road how effective it remains!
It completely removed the mj plant smell and there is no noticable reduction in air volume....
Oh yea, it is about 12" long and 4" diameter.....

Thanks guys..... suspendedinair don't get down man your plant looks really healthy! Did you see my pics from the start of this thread.... let me tell you, I really thought I was going to have to start over after all my rookie mistakes.... I'm still trying to get rid of the spider mites... I've only seen a couple of live ones lately but there are still a lot of eggs and I do have some leaves that are showing spider mite spots but when I flip them over all I see are some eggs so I'm not sure if their fresh or if I just noticed them. Definitely getting harder to spray them down with Neem as bushy as they are getting. I can see that if their not gone in another couple of weeks they are going to become a real pain in the ass.
