Hey...im just starting my first grow with cfls. I bought a hundred watt single cfl and it needs a large socket to power it. i also bought the converter so that you can plug it into a regular light socket.... which didn't work. So i go back to my local hardware store and buy a work lamp that can take up to 250 watts. i get home to plug it in and it doesn't work. Can anyone help me out here?

You need what is called a mogul socket.

8' Power Cord with Mogul Socket

If you want a 200 watt CFL, you will need one of those or a Mogul Socket.

There are Adaptors:
Mogul To Standard Bulb Adapter

Hey ya so about 5 hrs ago i went to Home Depot

I got 2 inch work lamps which said they can go to 300 watts

4 42 watt 6500K CFLs

2 Y adapter light sockets

and 2 like extension pieces, they have
All the pieces are rated to 600 watts

I olny have like 90 watts

I got the extension cause the bulbs wouldnt fit with the Y adapter

I am handy enough, i though this would work, the guy agreed
but it didnt work a bit
the bulbs wouldnt turn on under any confirguration wether pluged right into the work lamp or through extension

They have a 100 watt flood light which i could take off the screen

I need this Asap and i dont like the idea of haveing lights sent via online to my placeee

did they test the bulbs at the shop before you left with them? the bulbs might be dud!!!

if the bulbs are fine only other thing is the fuse, theres nothing else really.

I firgured it out the bulbs where fine
but i had to return it all, it requires a ballast or just a different fixturee so i got 2 100 watts at 6500 for 20 bucks more:)
