Hey all long time no journal here..fig i may as well keep a short journal just because this is a somewhat experimental grow.

A little about myself. I have been growing for about 4 years now, im not great and im not bad. i have had reasonable results and i do great for what i use it for. I have RLS and insomnia, also Chronic back pain and spazms. I smoke to aleviate the pain sometimes but mostly to help me sleep. I am interested in only growing 1 plant at a time because thats all i need. I have tried hydro, perpetual and everything in between.

a little about the grow

medium will be 100% homemade EWC mixed with some perilite to keep decent drainage.

32x32 tent

i have all the bells and whistles for equip, 600w HID,1000w HID, 96w T5 HO, filters , fans, temp controller...blah blah blah...no CO2 never will.

right now its under a small 4 bulb T5HO from a reef aquarium. i planted the seed outside and it wasnt doing so well so decided to uproot it from the ground and transplant into my EWC.

want to try and not use any nuted for entire grow and will be setting up a ScROG screen of some sort in the near future.

strain is unknown bagseed. dont even know if it will recover or be a fem but if not aint no thing to pop another bean in there.

heres a pic of her shabby ass, sorry pic quality isnt great ill get a couple more pics when i get my camera home its in the wife's car right now.

She isnt looking too good, a bit stressed and bug butten but 2 days now and she isnt wilting wich means she is taking to new home. hopefully by this time next week we will see some growth.

ill be rigging up the tent later on and getting her in there, for now she is fine under that lil flouro.

There's a reason why people don't grow in straight poop.

You're going to get bugs, and even with all the perlite in there you're not going to get a proper air ratio.

Eventually after so many waterings your ewc will condense into itself and basically strangle your plant.

Didn't you make a thread asking if this would work?

I believe everyone said No,

The max amount of ewc would be half of the total volume of my medium. But that's just me

Ya live and learn ;)

also there is quite a bit of perilite in there...so i guess it isnt technically 100% but there is no other soil in with it just a full bag of perilite in about 5 gal of EWC

Not saying you're going to fail necessarily.. It's just going to be a tough grow.

Why wouldn't you just throw some peat in there for added assurance? Where I'm at it's ridiculously cheap.
i might, but then i would have to change the name of the thread and thats a pita...to be honest i dont really care if it fails...im not saying i want it to but theres no real demand for it to be sucessfull for me i have enough herb to last me till this time next year.

so im gonna play around....try and do it anyways...why not.

I read a whole thing about EWC. They did a bunch of trial grows with plants and found that even if there is a small amount of EWC in the soil that plant grew much better than without. They also found if the EWC ratio is over or around 50% to the amount of soil present it severely affected the growth of the plant in a bad way. The plants would be stunted and would not grow. I highly suggest that you start over and stop wasting time. In their research they said to have 10% EWC in your soil mix for the best growing plant.

I'm pretty sure I read that same article, I probably have it somewhere. ;)

One thing we have to keep in mind here folks is that EWC/vermicompost can really be describing very different mediums. While I suspect this grow is going to suffer from the 100% ewc, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

im not wasting my time. i enjoy experimenting with things, trying and possibly failing where others say its not possible. if you feel its a waste of time you do not have to watch :) but i would love it if you did for your criticizm and collective thoughts.

the reason i am trying this is because i have had everything from potatoes to melons grow in my compost bin, some days i would open it up and see this huge sprout from a potato peel that has taken good roots and is growing really good considering the lighting issue. so i figure if things can grow in there like that then possibly they can grow under controlled conditions.

i welcome everyones comments good or bad, lets just keep it civil (not saying anyone hasnt just throwing it out there)

Also since you have said it will collapse from watering i have decided a bottom watering system will most likely be used as to try and keep the medium moist without colapsing and thus suffocating the root system.

so appreciate the thoughts :)

Hmmm. Hope she bounces back and starts growing well. She looks rather stunted though. Might take a while for her to start growing good or might not even grow at all. Starting over would be faster than waiting for her to bounce back. Good luck.

i pulled it out of the ground outside a week ago...didnt expect it to take right off anyways. i think i have some clones of wonder woman on the wat but will see what happens with that.

ok so i think im just going to go hydro and setup my monster scrog screen and dump the compost idea. Would love to see it through but as someone else mentioned somewere bugs...and i am starting to see them now. i dont like bugs.
