Thanks, loud - SoG has actually been my focus, but I threw this post out there to see if there are any other systems others would suggest.

How about you, budf, are you running your system along the SoG line?

Used to harvest every 2 months, but made my veg room into just moms and clones. Its not that big mabey 9 moms. now every 5 months a little easyer on me. im also bymyself. i aslo work. trying to get through school. i harvest about 9lbs 5 months. Let me remind you that it took 9 strains to find the one that sutes me and over 15 to get to the point im at. also having it be califonia legal helps. i have 100 medical cards, so it covers all my plants. so its not as stressfull.

SORRY ITS SO LONG! its from a law school class

"Dear sir/madam,
I'm writing a report for my business law class concerning the power companies. There have been numerous complaints around the country in the past six months stating that power companies are voluntarily reporting what they deem to be "abnormally high" power usage to law enforcement agencies. The law enforcement agencies then use this information to go into residences to search for illegal activities.

I am currently gathering information from various electric companies around the country about their privacy policies or lack thereof."

Answer from power company:

If you require an official/legal answer to these questions I will happily forward these questions to our legal department but, I am willing to briefly answer them all as they are all covered in the Data Protection act of 1998 which I recommend you read to clarify your concerns.

Does (my power company) have a privacy policy?
1. (my electric company) DOES have a privacy policy which is specifically designed to protect our customers and their details. We are also bound by the aforementioned Data Protection Act of 1998.

If so, does it state that (my power company) will not
divulge customer information (power usage, personal information, etc.)
to any outside party without a proper warrant?

2. NO personal data will be divulged to anyone outside of our organisation without the specific permission of the Customer; with a warrant; or a specific order from a Government Agency, again as covered by the Data Protection Act of 1998. If you read this it specifically states (under the Subject Access Request section) that any personal data may only be retrieved
for the person it pertains to or a Government Agency (such as the Police) who occasionally request such data.

If not, does (my power company) voluntarily report
"abnormal" power usage to law enforcement agencies without provocation?

3. I can assure you that (my electric company) DOES NOT, under any circumstances, monitor and report our 6 Million customers power consumption for anything other than OUR business requirements (we are busy enough as it is!).

For the VERY VERY limited occasions/situations when we are asked to supply information to a Government agency we only respond to the questions asked, most likely examples being: tracing missing persons or deducing the occupier of a house in a specific time period in Rent disputes.

As for warrants, the police must obtain a warrant for the electrical usage first, and then a warrant for your house, but the Supreme Court ruled long ago that even electrical usage of 3-400% compared to similar dwellings in the neighborhood is "suspicious only\" and not grounds to search.

Excellent data, budf, thank you! Power consumption hasn't been a huge concern, but it doesn't hurt to cover all the bases. (I'm unfortunately not in Cali and not in a spot with medical permits yet, so being careful is the name of the game.)

Is there a reason you prefer soil over hydro?

I'm really leaning toward the Omega Garden, looking at other posts on this forum and trying to find someone here actually using it successfully.

soil because if anything happens i can get certain plants out fast, also i can take the whole plant and dip them in a trashcan filled with floramite if they get mites(veg). i can move them around 2 clean and so they get diff light. all you cant do with hydro. plus i think it adds some flavor.

budf, in regards to your soil op, how many plants you running under the 8 lamps? How much work is required of you each day? And you state every 5 months you harvest, correct? Is that a little longer than most; I thought one could get a harvest about every 90 days (or is that more with hydro systems)?

Again, thank you for your time and sharing of knowledge.

10k Eh, not a bad way to start :) .... This would be what I'd do...

First off, tear out any carpeting, cover any openings in the walls, get rid of our cover any windows. Then clean the room thoroughly.

Once your room is completely specless and and closed off. Paint your walls white. All white, you could even use a special type of gloss paint that leaves a somewhat "shine" which would not normally be used for walls. Also, you could line your entire room with mylar for the most reflectivity. If you have a concrete floor, paint it white.

Once you have your room finished, get your ventilation in. Go to a hardware store preferably "Home Depot" or "Lowes". Get the foiled tubing thats from 6" - 1' in diamater. Place the tubing aroung the top of your room, and you could also place holes in the sides of the tubing to pickup air from all around the room. Then put the tubing into your air duct or out a window. I recommend using the air duct because no one could see the hole in your window. Make it suck through there, and put a large garage fan in the corner of the room where your ventilation doesn't pickup from.

Then, buy three or four 3'-4' long HPS/MH ballasts. You should also get auto-misters on the outskirts of the room.

Build wooden stands to hold your pots in, and have a nice drainage under them. Figure out the rest i Gotta go...payce GL! 10 g's mofucka!

im not sure about you...but i CAN move my plants around in my HYDRO set up flood and drain to be exact

thas why we use pots or cubes....so we can turn the plant around or move it.

dont be a soil fanboy.

clumsyninja i suggest you do alittle more research and talk to more than one person. Even tho they mean good and have good intentions, their opinions can be a little bias as well as fabricated...

Also try to dip a whole plant thats in hydro. without getting clay everywere.

Most definitely, that's why I'm questioning and researching a couple months in advance. So when it becomes time for GO! it will just be a matter of A, B, C....

I do find it interesting the soil vs hydro debate that seems neverending. What's most imortant to me is which will be the easiest, most hassle-free setup that leaves littlest room for error and that can more or less take care of itself (i.e., setting up with reservoirs and drip systems, auto lighting and fans, etc.).

Hydro is a lot cleaner, and I find easyier to manage, I run a DWC Operation with two tanks each with 6 plants. and also a Flood and Drain like Albe Fcuk. on a much smaller scale. I just have 4-5 plants at each cycle making 16-20 plants in total. I do not have 4 trays. I use 2 trays and two tanks. but use them like I have four. harvest 4-5 plants every two weeks. 10.000 is a lot of moeny and you do not need nothing like this kind of money to produce good bud.

you need to find a strain that will be of more good to your type of grow. I take it this is for commercial and not personel. so find a strain that will give a good yeild for the type of grow you choose. this is important as there are many diffrent types, what i have done is got a few diffrent stains that I have as mothers and take clones form these. it can take a while to get the strain that suits your needs the most.

to me there is a big diffrence to growing for your own use and growing for commerial. for my personal weed I think it dired out for the right time and then cured (burping it) which decreses the yeild you get from it.. most commerical growers tend not to dry it out as much, which gives a less potent smoke and more harsh, but gives a higher yeild.

do some research into building your own system, its a lot cheaper and you get the same results, the end result will depend on how you care and feed your plants..

I like SOG, but remember if your in the Uk, Like me. if you get caught with this setup. the courts do not understand this method. and when your grow like this your putting a lot more plants in, but growing them much smaller. in the eyes of the CPS they will lay charges to you all the plants and calculate them to as if they would produce a fully grown plant yield. so you need to take this into account.

In wales the electric companys do inform the ploice if the premiss are using a lot of electricty. its been said that this is not enough for them to get a search warrent. believe me if the Police want a search warrent they can get one, they have other ways and means to get that warrent. In the last two months in wales they have found and shut down 3 operations here, this way.

Shouldnt you grow a few plants before investing that much and then realizing theres more to growing than you thought? You wouldnt open a bakery without trying baking something first.
With that on the side, the omega garden seems like the bomb.

With that much money you can probably spend half of it and try out every set-up, all the lights and everything and see which you like best and what works best for you. You will probably go through a few different systems anyway. You can decide on one that can be the main way to go, and a couple of others to try. Good luck to you and happy growing!

I greatly appreciate the input! I have come to think I'll invest about $5K in my first operation, going with SoG: 4 trays with 16 plants each, about 5-7 mothers and 20 clones, hoping to put out at least a pound every 2 weeks (as per Al B. Fuct's thread).

In the US, fedral mandatory minimum guidelines start at 99 plants, so the plan is to keep it below this for "worst case scenario."

My research now is regarding the best seeds to begin with for commercial output (but still want to keep thick, bushy bud/nugs that one would be proud to toke on).

if yo uahve 10k, sog is the way to go. your biggest concern will be ventilation, look into this alot, if your in a winter climit it wil look odd running a ac unit mid winter..

you may also want to ahve a carpenter come in and set you up a "dark room" put in 2 chambers, and a wash area witha sink and such. (not to mention the electric breaker)

as for a seed type, you can grow a premo brand and ask for more... or have larger yeilds with a comercial brand -- personally if i had 10k id develop my own.

I prefer dirt but have been tinking of a hydro grow soon.

those mandatory minimum guidelines vary by state, 4 plants in florida is a felony, 25 is drug trafficking which carries a mandatory minimum sentece of 5 years now. the law just changed here. i dunno where your at but id definetly check into it. i may be wrong but im pretty sure its 5 years now. either way you look at it dont get caught
