    What's a good USB microscope/camera?

For a USB miscroscope that'll help with looking at trichomes I use one one of these Gro1's: http://shop.gyostuff.com/Gro1-Digital-Microscope-300x-999010.htm?categoryId=-1 . Plugs right into my comp and I've never had an issue with it. It's got a suction cup and arm stand so you can stick it on...

    advice about temperature

It's September and your grow room is too cold?? You're in for a rough winter. A couple of options: try a small space heater on a thermostat; upgrade to a high pressure sodium fixture. It will give off more heat and likely give you better results than the Dragon. Good luck!

    raptor 8 hood

If you have enough height in your space, go with the 1000w bulbs in your Raptors. Just be sure to flower early enough (and train) so your little green girlies don't grow to big/into the light and burn. Good luck!

    Sound control needed for filter

LOL! This isn't even a good redneck solution. It's a HORRIBLE solution for the reason herbalistfarmer12345 mentioned - it blocks airflow. You're better off going with a speed controller: http://shop.gyostuff.com/Duct-Fan-Speed-Adjuster-ACSC.htm and/or a duct muffler...

Sealed room, how do you scrub?

You've got it! Best way to polish or scrub the air in an enclosed environment is to attach a fan to a carbon filter (either mounted above or standing on the floor) and let it run. Good luck!

    keeping low hanging fruit

Your logic is sound. Stay on top of them (train/tie back often). Good luck!

Best light hoods on the market?

Sun Systems Blockbusters are good; check out Hydrofarm's Radiant 6 reflector as well. The brushed aluminum that's used in the Radiant is way better than almost any hammered aluminum reflector available.

    Tent/vent/ ac setup questions

Your lights should be on their own sealed exhaust system. If properly installed, you won't have any odor problems. See the attached pic to get an idea how to run your exhausts.

12,000 BTU Mini Split or 18,000 Btu mini split to cool 3 1100 watt lights.

Also, there are mini-split systems available now that are pre-charged so you don't need to bring a HVAC tech to your spot. Look for the quick connect mini split AC units.

12,000 BTU Mini Split or 18,000 Btu mini split to cool 3 1100 watt lights.

Since you're going to use 1 unit to cool both spaces, I'd go for the 18k BTU unit. For the additional $400 or so, you'll also have the ability to add another light or 2 down the road when you want a bigger garden. You know you're gonna... Good luck!

need help finding a grow tent to fit my basement

The Silver Edition 5x5 tent (actually 62" x 62") is the best for your dimensions. Lightproof too... Good luck!

    Liquid cooled lights, anyone?

Liquid cooled reflectors greatly reduce the amount of light that actually reaches your plants. Think about it: You're sticking 2 pieces of glass and 1/2" of water between the bulb and your plants... I'd avoid.

Better idea: choose a quality tent. The cheap ones are cheap for a reason. Don't waste your money...

How effective is carbon filter on smell removal? (Got some crazy ideas)

If noise from your exhaust fans is an issue, add a duct muffler to the equation. Although they don't stop all sound coming from a fan, if properly installed (immediately after the fan in the direction of air travel), they can reduce overall noise by about 30-50%.

    Tent/vent/ ac setup questions

It's best to keep the lights on their own exhaust. Same for the carbon filter. If you ever add CO2, you'll need them separated anyway. You may want to consider using a different reflector (like the Radiant reflector by Hydrofarm). Like the Cool Tube, the Radiant is air cooled. The biggest plus...

Massachusetts Outdoor Grow- First Timer, Lots of Questions

Like pwwn said, the outdoor season's coming to close now. You'd be MUCH better off starting a grow indoors at this time. Also, since you're just starting out, and will be investing a few months into this process (at least), I'd recommend you get a couple of feminized seeds of a quality strain...

    Lighting Question For Experts.

First, you'd be better off having all HPS in your flower room. CFL's are most appropriate for smaller plants during the veg phase. Second, the pet lighting you propose has no specs as far as color spectrum. AVOID. Stick with real grow lights (HPS) and you'll be much happier in the end. Good luck!

    Growing in upstairs apartment

2 plants in a 4x4 under 400w HPS is good. 2 plants in a 4x4 under 600w HPS is better but may be too hot for your space if the air outside the tent (the air that you'd be pulling through your lights) is not conditioned. Good luck with your setup.

    First grow, single plant outdoors

Looking good. Keep it up! The Mexican Bat Guano is higher in nitrogen - and perfect for the grow/veg phase. Now that you're into flowering, you should supplement with Indonesian and or Jamaican Bat Guano which have higher amounts of phosphorous to encourage larger, fragrant blooms. Check out the...
